  1. Hey Freddy, good to debate with you again. Actually the Comex case i submitted was a weak attempt at my endeavor to replicate an original caseback. With more patience and elbow grease its possible to get closer to the gen. I will post pics soon to see what you think. P.
  2. Forget stamping and fancy custom tooling. A bit of good old fashion elbow grease is whats needed. Take a sheet of 500 grit wet 'n' dry and go over thoughly smoothing out those sharp edges. Then repeat with 800 and then with 1500. After get yer dremel with a polishing wheel with a bit of rouge and polish to a high sheen. For an authentic vintage look bang on a brick a few times beforehand. Voila! P.
  3. Fantastic! wear it well.... P.
  4. Hey Freddy, Well i guess these DRSD are so rare that only an expert could tell the difference and i always tell people its a replica of a very expensive and rare Rolex and that i put it together myself. I think people are more impressed by this than if you were wearing a 30k watch, most people i know would think i was crazy if i spent that much on a watch. The movement is a 2836-2. I don't like the slower beat movement to me it gives it away as a rep. Rolex's always have a real smooth sweeping second hand and the 2846 seems like a Timex to me. Yeah i chopped the feet off and glued the dial on top of the spacer ring making sure the datewheel had enough room to move freely. A couple of layers of hypo cement does the trick. Posted a pic of my 1665 Comex. Dial is pretty accurate only the short minute markers give it away as a redial. Good Comex dials are really hard to find but any are better than what are stock on any rep and again they're so rare... P.
  5. Hi Freddy, well i'm pleased with mine and is actually totally matt although hard to tell in the picture. Here is a link to a 5514 Comex dial: http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Dial-Submariner-...VQQcmdZViewItem Good luck with the search i'm always looking so if i find any i'll onpass the info P.
  6. Try this site.. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Dial-Double-Red-...oQQcmdZViewItem DRSD Dials are pretty accurate but pricey. 5514 Comex dial are near impossible to find but try www.classicwatchparts.com but be clear to exactly what you want. P.
  7. Hey Kruzer thats a sweet watch. i got one of these dials and now you and Falco have made me wanna build it up. You baaaad! P.
  8. Ok so no vintage MBW's not a problem. Back to the original question, can somebody please point out what to look for in a modern MBW LV sub without looking at the Polex cos i doubt anyone's gonna let me remove the bracelet for a look. Cheers P.
  9. "Was also looking at picking up an MBW LV but as i have no experience in modern MBW subs can somebody please point out what to look for" Thanks Pug. Was looking for both but as i said had problems finding. I know yer bro got them for you but not so easy for me. Maybe a problem with distribution or something. P.
  10. Just spent last couple of days of Songkran festival in Bangkok staying next door to MBK centre. Inbetween bouts of extreme riotous behaviour with my friends and colleagues who reside here i went to MBK to suss out vintage MBW's but found non. I did my homework on the forum but to no avail so now need some help. Was also looking at picking up an MBW LV but as i have no experience in modern MBW subs can somebody please point out what to look for. I asked for the best they have and for US250 they gave me a rep with real bad date misalignment and green bezal was totally off colour. Not a real problem as i'm gonna heavily mod but need to know the case is good. In a nutshell how can i tell its MBW without looking for the "Polex"? P.
  11. Hey guys, Thanks for yer useful comments and Eunomians thats a sweet 5513, wanna swap haha! And Avitt i gotta find another couple for my next projects so i will try and get one for you too, will keep you posted. I'm writing this in the MBK Centre in Bangkok gonna see what i can find now... P.
  12. Many thanks. The dial came to me that way. I matched the hands myself, they're gen Tudor sub much more accurate than the original MBW hands. P.
  13. No problem that's why we all here, glad you like it. It isn't stock MBW. Comex dials with the correct wordings are really hard to find. I found this one on the Bay at this guys site. http://stores.ebay.com/NDTradingCorp His dials are now outrageously expensive. Thankfully i made an offer on this one and he accepted so didn't get stung too bad. Haven't ever seen another but maybe you can ask him. Also Micheal in Hong Kong www.classicwatchparts.com does them but i got one off of him but wasn't too accurate. P.
  14. Posted pics of my Comex before but now i've installed the Ubi datewheel and a new bezel insert with gen luminous dot. Also now on a Nato strap. Thanks for looking. P.
  15. Believe me i didn't believe it. The drsd isn't the very first SD but who cares. You have a fantastic piece and thanks for sharing. P.
  16. Pretty sure all seadwellers are triplocks and surprised you got away with a AD service without them calling the cops... ??? Mind you in 1987 anything goes i guess... P.
  17. Only a true masterpiece when you get the correct vintage crown. But a magnificent piece all the same. Nice one! P.
  18. Where did you source the dial? its a beauty! P.
  19. Very nice but isn't that a transitional dial used on the first sapphire crystal Seadwellers. Hats off for scoring one of those. That's a great watch. P.
  20. Have read a few posts saying that the older version of the MBW sub cases particularly on the LV are much better than the newer versions. Can anybody tell me why? P.
  21. Time to come clean hemicuda give us the juicy details...
  22. I reckon its a gen. The dial is an early version from late sixties with m/ft. These had the Rolex letters slighty spaced apart compared to later versions. I say its a gen only because as Bytor said i've never seen such a dial on anything but. Hope i'm wrong and there is someone out there producing decent red dials at last. P.
  23. Nice work! I'm a big fan of Tudor's and have a French Navy Sub in the works. Will post pics when i'm finished. P.
