Definintely NOT 'paste'. Search out 'powdered graphite' & the 'perfect daytona' threads from early '08 (you may need to research current site URLs as some have changed since the threads were posted). Also, while you are at it, search out Ziggy's reviews of the 7750 & read the Hey Noob FAQ & forum rules pinned atop the Introduction forum (take note of item 5 under Posting).

I would definitely recommend against applying any sudden impacts to the watch. That is just as likely to cause more serious issues than it is to solve the problem. Assuming the watch is not magnetized, most likely 1 of the loops of the hairspring are caught on an adjacent wheel (center wheel), which shortens its functional length & causes the balance wheel (& watch) to run faster. If you remove the caseback & inspect the hairspring closely (with a loop or magnifying glass), you will probably see where it is hanging up.

PCGs. I have seen many early 5512s with those.

I have never seen the plastic part of the insert sold separately. Rolex never sold them that way either. I think you may have to bite the bullet & buy another bezel & perform the insertectomy yourself.

The store cannot just take a rep off your wrist because you walked into their store. However, technically, if you remove your rep to try on a gen Rolex & store personnel (who, in legal terms, are agents of Rolex) identify it as infringing on Rolex patents/trademarks, it can be seized. That said, even though they are trained to spot fakes, whether the average sales person is going to actually ID your rep &/or risk the potential fallout relating from mistaken identity is another thing. Still, because Rolex is somewhat unique when it comes to the application of patent & trademark law (at least in the US), it is best to play it safe & never wear a rep into an AD or any establishment that repairs or sells Rolex watches.

Ditto Nanuq. Most early Subs appear with distinct lines around the lume. This is pure conjecture on my part, but I think the reason is that aesthetics tended to take a back seat to functionality on early tool watches. Rolex probably figured that most divers were more concerned with their ability to see the markings on their watch under water rather than how the watch looked at dinner parties. So the lume was placed, more or less, within the confines of the lines.

Looks gen to me, but ditto Alligoat's comments about checking threads. You may also have a problem with the internal spring/plunger system on the crown on the left in the last pic. You might search out my 'Brevet rebuild' thread.

I would love to see the return of the like/dislike (or whatever they were) buttons that made it simple & easy to reply to a post.

Although the author describes himself as 'a luxury wrist-watch expert', it goes without saying.

Begin with Timezone's 2-part watch school & then read deCarle's Practical Watch Repairing, which should keep you busy.

I have 2 crystal presses, but I usually use the hobby vice I got from Sears, which allows for much more accurate/even installation. This tool is 1 of those must-haves that come in handy for a variety of tasks You will need a set of delrin dies to set/hold the crystal/case in place, which are available from all the watch parts houses.

Having an odd match often encourages additional scrutiny, which is not a problem if everything is gen or nearly so. In fact, it can actually work in your favor with a gen because viewers may assume you are an iconoclast, who wears whatever he likes regardless. But, on a rep, the added scrutiny may just cause you problems.

Odd. That is very unlike DW. I do not normally get involved in these, but I have to think there is more to this story. Would you PM me with a BRIEF timeline of the date you paid, what you paid for & the dates of your communications to/from DW?

It could be an old redial (the coronet/fonts look odd), but, either way, it still looks off to me.

Case looks good (got sold while I was viewing it), but dial looks like either a redial or an artificially aged aftermarket & hands are aftermarket.

Wrong. On a number of occasions, this member was engaging in activity that breached RWG rules. In each case, he was asked (politely) to cease & desist (2 such warnings came from me). Other staff members have reported similar (&, apparently, consistent) experiences. Not only did he continue the activity, but blew the moderator off (I am putting it gently), adding that no one has authority over him. This type of behavior, as he was informed, will eventually get him banned. Finally, after repeated brushes with various admin staff, inevitably, the boom fell & the member crys foul. For some reason, people like this are unable to connect actions with reactions, even when the pattern is repeated over & over, with warnings given in each case. He has no one to blame but himself.
