You can tame alot of the texture problems with the application of matte varnish, but there is nothing you can do to correct for their size (too small) inaccuracy. In the case of something like a 6238, I would hold out (or save) for a better dial. It would be a pity to limit the quality of such an iconic piece with that dial.

Are you going to post pics of any of your original examples?

If I was able to produce an original design that was both compelling & aesthetically superior to all others, I would certainly get to work toot sweet. In lieu of that, I have restored some gens along the way. There was a thread detailing the restoration of 1 of my DJs, but it apparently got lost during 1 of our system upgrades. However, I do have a few pics In general, just about anyone with the skills/tools to construct a franken, can restore a basic, genuine watch.

Bottom is gen.

Read my post above yours.

For the record, RWG rules prohibit 'Pornographic, adult or warez content' (if you have not yet done so, please read The Rules) &, without getting into another constitutional straw man debate, I think we can all agree that showing genitals (full frontals) & acts of sex (playing a Clinton & debating the meaning of the word 'act' is not going to excuse you) fall into these categories. If you come across an avatar or pic on RWG in any forum other than the 'Bits, bytes & babes' forum, please report it to admin.

It is more a matter of value than price, though, for non-billionaires like myself, price is certainly an issue. I just cannot rationalize spending uber amounts of money on a collectible whose value is market-based. While Rolex has historically been a very safe investment, there is no guarantee that the $100k you spend on a nice Newman Daytona today will be worth that much tomorrow. Why not just buy reps? Again, because I appreciate quality & would prefer not to be seen as a poseur, if I can avoid it (even if I am acting like 1).

Rolex Daytona no engravings on rehaut-where to find?
freddy333 replied to 997 s's topic in The Rolex Area
Have you checked with TT to see if/when they expect to have more? Also, have you checked other RWG sellers' listings or contacted them to see if they can source the same watch? -
Genuine watches are built/finished better than reps. Also, rep watches generally come with used/unserviced movements, so unless you have your new rep professionally overhauled upon its arrival, its accuracy & lifespan may be limited. Further, contrary to many sellers' hyperbole, no rep that I am aware of is 100% or an exact copy of its genuine counterpart, which means that an astute collector will be able to spot a rep & ID its wearer as a poseur. In my case, I tend to build frankens (watches that are constructed out of genuine spares or parts from various other watches) of watches whose values reach into the stratosphere & buy gens otherwise. For example, current prices for Double Red Sea Dwellers run from $25k-$40k, so I built a (gen-powered) franken. On the other hand, current prices for 80s Datejusts run around $4k-$8k, which is affordable, so I went gen.

I like hot babes as much as the next guy & I am a strong proponent of free speech/expression, but, as others have correctly pointed out, RWG is about watches, not naked babes (excepting our 'Bits, bytes & babes' forum). If you want to see & display naked women, the web is awash with more appropriate sites. So, if for no other reason than to make it easier for people to access RWG (without having to explain its visual content to women & children), I would prefer not to see it (outside of the appropriate forum) here.

Yes, good luck.

Nicely done.

Still More Proof of the Power (or Insanity) of the Newman Daytona
freddy333 replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Close, but not the same. The fonts & spacing are slightly different. This is the 2nd gen ROC I have seen & I (& many others) have always questioned the authenticity of Mayer's dial. The dial in the auctioned watch ticks all the right (gen) boxes, Mayer's does not. Again, fonts & spacing are the salient issues. But, as always, just about anything is possible when it comes to vintage Rolex. -
Selling blood for watches? Seriously, what is the story?

Still More Proof of the Power (or Insanity) of the Newman Daytona
freddy333 replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Another oddity I have noticed is that a number of recent high dollar Newmans are anything but perfect specimens as they have 1 or more misaligned chrono hands. The sample in this thread is a typical example, with its center & hour chrono hands slightly to the left of their proper null positions. In fact, most of the Newmans in my archives have similarly imperfect smiles. The moral of all this is that having all of your chrono hands pointing exactly north is not something to neurose over. -
You need a Bergeon 5444-A Fine Satin Finish Bar (click pic for link)

Yuki & Phong have them in sets or, if you are willing to throw the dice, Mr. Slimeball always has 62xx handsets. In either case, I would strongly recommend that you have your watchmaker apply some epoxy to the the hand tube/wand intersection. Otherwise, you will be posting back with 'When I reset, the hand stops at a different place every time'

The downside (other than the additional cost) to building a gen out of parts instead of buying a complete watch is that you (or a future owner) may have trouble having it serviced by an RSC due to the numbers not matching (RSC checks movement & case serial numbers prior to performing work). If you want to experience assembling a Rolex, I think it makes more sense to buy a complete watch & then learn how to overhaul it yourself. That way (assuming the overhaul is performed properly), you get the best of both worlds without any of the downsides.
