  1. Some have both.
  2. This is the proper profile for a 1665 (note the size/shape of the superdome Tropic 39 (from Clarks) xtal)
  3. I agree with Ubi. The (21.6k bph) 'slow beat' 2846 was removed from ETA's product line-up in late 2005 or early 2006. In any case, most of these movements that found their way into rep watches were either used when they went in or old (unserviced) stock. Like most mechanical movements, properly (& regularly -- like most mechanical movements -- every 5-7 years) serviced, these are very accurate movements which should remain serviceable for a lifetime. Search ebay for used watches -- gen & rep -- that contain the ETA2846.
  4. Rolexaddict - I am not clear on what your point (regarding rep watches) is? But, as far as the watch posted on the site you linked goes, it looks like a gen with an aftermarket (or incorrect gen) crystal. Like Ubi said, 1665s came with some variation of a domed crystal. The domed shape was not accidental or simply an aesthetic choice by Rolex. It actually increased the crystal's strength, allowing it to remain intact as the surface pressure (against the crystal) increased when the watch was taken/worn at deeper depths.
  5. The tachymeter scale is calibrated for timing units (usually kilometers/miles per hour) requiring up to 1 minute to accomplish. That is, you can time events that complete within 1 revolution of the second hand. As for the Units Per Hour markings on the bezel, those indicate kilimeters/miles per hour, as measured over a distance of one kilometer/mile. The best I can do to describe this is to say that if you were driving along a highway in an automobile & you start the chronograph as you pass a mile marker, if you stop the chronograph immediately as you pass the next mile marker, the number indicated by the second hand on the bezel would be your average speed in miles per hour over that distance.
  6. Ditto. Also, gens tend to have stronger internal springs, which translates into more outward tension, which translates into keeping the springbar in place better & longer with less change of a springbar failure leading to a dropped/lost watch.
  7. Excepting rose Subs, Tudors have never been my cup of tea, but I know a good thing when I see it & this is it.
  8. That is what I thought. Deleted.
  9. So MBK is now making vintage Sub dials with red depth ratings? Very impressive. I wish they had put the dial in the right (low profile) case with the correct bezel & 1 of Yuki's rivet bracelets (fitted with the proper 2mm dia springbars) . That would be a killer app. Beater today
  10. This morning, I received what looks like a spam/phishing email in my regular email inbox. Since I do not subscribe to social network invites (& never heard of Tubley.com) & alot of these are just phishing spam anyway, I usually just delete these types of things. However, I remembered seeing the name, Eric Chow, a few times on VRF a year or so ago, but I never had any communication with him. So I am wondering how he got my email (I am guessing he may have used a spider to collect emails from VRF, TZ or some other watch-related sites) & why I was sent this the invite? Anyone else receive this invite or know anything about this?
  11. I agree & thanks. But as much as I love & appreciate them, my double-red beater is still my fav. Or, at least, the watch I wear more often than any other.
  12. Generally, I think most of us consider our latest acquisition/project to be our fav & today that would be my 'Graph However, although I have all but 1 of my grails (the exception being a gold Moonphase, plans of which are under consideration for a future project), I think that if the proverbial house were burning & I had just seconds to grab 1 watch, (today) this would have to be it - the perfect (almost) everything watch
  13. My guess is that once you get 1 you are happy with, you will love the 1665. I never liked the 1665 until I completed mine. It has since become my (almost) daily beater
  14. I have never seen lume 'bleed' like that onto a dial, but nice work.
  15. Ending my work week with a bit of Mystery
  16. Let us see what we have here. The seller has no real track record selling high end watches, his pics are too small to reveal the kind of details that separate real from fake & there are no movement pics & what I can see makes me queasy. Unless you have unusually good (& consistent) luck with long-shot gambles, I would definitely pass this 1 by.
  17. My kind of collection.
  18. Excepting the insert (& brown leather strap), all gen on this 1. Thanks.
  19. The current line of ceramic bezeled models have AR below the cyclops (on the underside of the xtal) only (This is my CHS fitted with a gen xtal)
  20. Got it. Thanks for the clarification, Kurt. Noone here? Most of my recent projects were constructed out of gen parts (some NOS), including gen crystals & I paid dearly for them. That is the understatement of the year
  21. Star - I assume this was directed to me? I get what Justasgood is saying, just not quite understanding his point? Many here (including me) have, from time to time, posted retail prices for Rolex parts to highlight the difference between costs to those within the Rolex service network & everyone else. However, unless you have a parts account (or know someone who does & is willing to supply you with parts at cost), most of us are left having to pay these types of inflated prices for gen parts. Believe me, I know.
