  1. Had an urge to wear my 'Graph today, which turned out to be fortuitous because I just received quite a compliment (on my watch) from a VIP client (& serious Rolex collector) during a business meeting. I guess it turned out better than even I thought
  2. Buy the seller before you buy the part. That is the best way to (help) insure you receive what you expect. That said, I have recently noted that many generally good/reliable gen sellers are (unknowingly) selling aftermarket parts. Even the best of us can be fooled sometimes. The only way to guarantee a genuine Rolex part is to get it directly from Rolex or a watchmaker within the official Rolex network (which can only be verified by checking with Rolex). It is definitely getting tough out there, folks.
  3. Side-by-side, the Rolex 'bar's pins are noticeably stiffer when pressed & the overall finish is better.
  4. Welcome back. All mechanical movements require routine services, generally every 5-7 years. The Zigmeister, as he is now called (I believe he officially changed his handle to this), is still your best bet for lume & service.
  5. Congratulations on the new acquisition. If memory serves, the MBW bezels do not readily accept gen inserts (at least, not the 2 I tried) without modification, which is why I ended up installing a gen insert & bezel. The best options for the MBW bezel are to install a PMWF insert & Ofrei illumines dot (pearl). As far as I can tell, these are the same parts that Rolex installs, currently, during servicing (if replacements are required). If you are critical, I would highly encourage you to do some research on gen double-reds before you pick up a file or shell out any modding cash. There are many online sources for great info, but this is probably the easiest place to start.
  6. I like the depth rating & it does seem to have a revolving 60-minute bezel, so the functions are correct. But the Bulova looks like a 60s or early 70s watch, whereas the 6202 'Graph debuted in 1953. This is 1 of the various 'De Luxe' versions
  7. I read that some time ago &, frankly, the thought that went through my mind was 'What took Rolex so long?' Anyone familiar with Rolex & their long-established history of trademark protection through legal actions -- both official & un -- is probably wondering why so many websites exist that use Rolex trademarks with seeming abandon. I have been saying for a few years that it is only a matter of time until Rolex sets their sights (& lawyers) on google in search of websites that violate Rolex's trademarks. I went through something similar years ago with a toy manufacturer & these things always end the same way -- with the trademark holder getting their way.
  8. If slow response times try your patience, I would stay away. Similarly, if you are neurotic about accuracy, keep fishing. But if you are VERY patient, not too critical about realism & see something on Silix that catches your eye, order away.
  9. What did the shipper (USPS) tell you?
  10. Felt like a Daytona this morning -- the 4-year old on the left
  11. Dudro has a modern Patek Nautilus that I believe came from MBW, which was quite a corker.
  12. Well done. An alternative is to sand down the surface of the ETA datewheel base before applying the datewheel overlay. This effectively lowers the surface of the datewheel, which provides sufficient clearance for the datewheel to fit/operate below the dial.
  13. Yeah, I forgot to include those (& other collectibles).
  14. Some have both.
  15. This is the proper profile for a 1665 (note the size/shape of the superdome Tropic 39 (from Clarks) xtal)
  16. I agree with Ubi. The (21.6k bph) 'slow beat' 2846 was removed from ETA's product line-up in late 2005 or early 2006. In any case, most of these movements that found their way into rep watches were either used when they went in or old (unserviced) stock. Like most mechanical movements, properly (& regularly -- like most mechanical movements -- every 5-7 years) serviced, these are very accurate movements which should remain serviceable for a lifetime. Search ebay for used watches -- gen & rep -- that contain the ETA2846.
  17. Rolexaddict - I am not clear on what your point (regarding rep watches) is? But, as far as the watch posted on the site you linked goes, it looks like a gen with an aftermarket (or incorrect gen) crystal. Like Ubi said, 1665s came with some variation of a domed crystal. The domed shape was not accidental or simply an aesthetic choice by Rolex. It actually increased the crystal's strength, allowing it to remain intact as the surface pressure (against the crystal) increased when the watch was taken/worn at deeper depths.
  18. The tachymeter scale is calibrated for timing units (usually kilometers/miles per hour) requiring up to 1 minute to accomplish. That is, you can time events that complete within 1 revolution of the second hand. As for the Units Per Hour markings on the bezel, those indicate kilimeters/miles per hour, as measured over a distance of one kilometer/mile. The best I can do to describe this is to say that if you were driving along a highway in an automobile & you start the chronograph as you pass a mile marker, if you stop the chronograph immediately as you pass the next mile marker, the number indicated by the second hand on the bezel would be your average speed in miles per hour over that distance.
  19. Ditto. Also, gens tend to have stronger internal springs, which translates into more outward tension, which translates into keeping the springbar in place better & longer with less change of a springbar failure leading to a dropped/lost watch.
  20. Excepting rose Subs, Tudors have never been my cup of tea, but I know a good thing when I see it & this is it.
