  1. Agreed, but I would add that you learn alot of valuable skills (that later become invaluable) when you have to use creativity to supplement hardware that may be less than state-of-the-art. And I think people (who take pride in their work) tend to produce more compelling pics when they have to cover for the sins of their camera.
  2. There are a couple different versions of the gen T21, depending on age (early versions have rounded tops, later/current versions are beveled). Gen T21 (later/current version) Original rounded DW crystal (similar in shape to early gen T21) Aesthetically, I think the later/current gen T21 is the most beautiful of all the crystals because it gives the watch a jewel-like quality.
  3. The rotor is attached to the movement by a single screw. If the screw is missing, replace it. If the screw is loose, tighten it. If that is not what you are talking about, a good, clear close-up picture of the offending part would be most helpful.
  4. Nah, I just want to take good pictures. For pleasure, I ride a unicycle without a seat (over a bumpy road).
  5. The EOSs are great cameras (I checked them out when I began my search for a replacement for my A80). But, unfortunately, due to their higher costs & relative unwieldyness (compared to the ease of slipping a point-&-shoot into a pocket on my way out the door), I really want to stick with a point-&-shoot.
  6. Thanks, but are these features/issues describing the Panasonic Lumix or the Canon G9? Oddly, none of the 4 camera stores I visited have the Lumix in stock (due to its popularity), so I need to rely on word-of-mouth recommendations & reviews if I go that way. On the other hand, I have tested the G10 & thought it a great camera. But, at least in a store setting, the SX10IS's 20x zoom clinched the deal for me. It was only after I got the camera home that I started noticing the noise (relative to my old A80) and slight chromatic aberrations (rainbows) on some edges. Still, that zoom makes it easy to portrait a wristie against the world behind it (a la DSLRs)
  7. Most of my pics were taken with a 5 year old 4MP Canon A80 point-&-shoot, which recently died So I just upgraded to a 10MP Canon SX10IS, which I am not sure is living up to its promise of higher resolution & extreme macros (via its built-in 20x optical zoom vs the A80's 3x). Though, to be fair, it only just arrived last night, but, so far, I am far from impressed (within its limits, I think my old A80 produced less noisy pics - even at low ISOs) But just in case, does anyone have experience the 2 other cameras I have under consideration - the 10MP Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 or 14MP Canon PowerShot G10? Ideally, I want a point-&-shoot with high resolution, a good macro & RAW support (I gave up RAW thinking the SX10IS's 20x zoom would more than placate me with crystal clear super macros, but I have yet to see the beef?).

  9. What, this old thing? Sorry, but I think Nanuq (& about 10 other people) is ahead of you in the waiting line. Yes, that too.
  10. As is, the CGs look too new for a vintage Sub. But, with a bit of judicious Dremeling/polishing, that can be corrected.
  11. Looks like a franken to me (regardless of the seller's reference to Skeet (which is known to contain a number of factual errors), I have never seen a 1675 SCOC dial in a '58 6542 ). And, anyway, I am with Nanuq on the bezel/insert . Thanks for the heads-up, but I think I prefer my own
  12. History always repeats itself. A similar observation was made a couple of years ago & again this past March.

  14. The 3 Universal Axioms of Watch Collecting 1. You will never be happy with 1 watch, no matter what it is - rep or gen. 2. If you lust after a particular watch, you will never be satisfied until you get that watch. 3. Once you acquire that watch, you will lust after another. And if you think you will outsmart Axiom 3 by trading the other watch for another, please re-read Axiom 1.
  15. Although I have never been a big fan of the gen, the original chs GMTIIC, while not perfect (no rep is), is the most convincing out-of-the-box rep I have seen. It is so convincing, in fact, that it has remained 100% original (no mods required)
  16. Thanks for the recommendation & congratulations on your new GMT.
  17. Ditto & nice collection.
  18. Formalized today
  19. For my money
  20. You may be able to use the case, but without knowing its exact dimensions, it is impossible to say how successful a project based on this will be. If you feel lucky........
  21. The rose Tudor Sub is 1 of my grail watches & not likely to be going anywhere anytime soon. Sorry. Mystery tonight
