  1. It is (glued on at the factory). If the watch is an MBW, then the DW should not be the cause of the crunching (unless it was installed incorrectly, which is always possible). The vast majority of people you come into contact with (including the average (non-collector) gen owner) know nothing about these watches beyond the name on the dial. And most of those who do, do not feel comfortable enough to offer an unsolicited opinion. But instead of fretting over the fact that your hard work seems to be going mostly unnoticed, consider it a down-payment towards keeping those few who do know the difference (between a rep & a gen) from calling you out. That is the way I look at it. Every minute detail I spend considerable time, effort & money on to improve is 1 less thing that might not be used against me. Can you say 'Ziggy'?
  2. No guarantee when it comes to leather, but I have removed similar stains by washing the entire strap in warm water with Woolite & then rinsing it well in distilled water. After the strap is completely dry (naturally), give it 2 coats of a good leather conditioner. The conditioner may slightly darken the overall color a bit, but it should end up without the stains.
  3. This assumes that the additional jewels were actually used for the additional chrono gearing & not something else (like 'window dressing')........... Even if they did address the chrono, as Ziggy said, that is still an insufficient number of jewels to properly address the relocation gearing.
  4. Are you sure the bracelet is new? I was not aware that Rolex still made or sold any folded links bracelets? I thought the last of those sold out over a decade ago? Is the relief on your Tudor bracelet's clasp a rose or a shield? Try the PMWF insert & Ofrei Illumines Dot (pearl). There are numerous threads describing these.
  5. I have not removed the bezel on my chs, so I cannot provide any assistance removing yours. However, now that I see both inserts side-by-side, it is clear that the (later) rep insert design has been changed (& not for the better) since the original version of the GMTIIC rep came out during the summer. The font on your insert (at left) is considerably narrower & slightly different than the font on the gen (which more nearly matches my chs rep)
  6. I began the day (Friday) wearing my usual beater, but, while posting a response in a GMTIIC thread, my attentions were drawn back to the sublime accuracy of this old thing
  7. Yes, that is correct. The top DW contains the Rolex fonted numbers, while the lower (oem) wheel contains the standard ETA fonted numbers. He should have just reglued the top DW back on (obviously, your rep-friendly watchmaker has not worked on many ETA-powered Rolex reps).
  8. 7mm Triplock (part number 24-703).
  9. Ditto.
  10. A long overdue development, but until someone is able to disassemble 1 to see what (if anything) has been 'improved', I would treat this claim as sales hyperbole like 'perfect', '1:1', 'Serviced by my watchmaker', etc.
  11. jj - What you have so far looks outstanding, but I think you have the wrong pearl for a vintage SD (yours has the metal surround, which is incorrect for this model). Depending on which insert you have, the Ofrei illumines dot (pearl) may fit. If not, you should get the PMWF insert (I do not have the link handy, but there are a number of threads about it that you can locate via the Search), which fits the MBW bezel & Ofrei pearl perfectly (w/o cement). And if you are feeling particularly neurotic, you might want to finish your project off with a working Hev
  12. I think your bezel was installed slightly off-center (a relatively common problem). To fix, you (or a watchmaker) will need to remove & reinstall the bezel so the 60 on the bezel aligns with the 12 on the dial. 1 of mine has the same problem, but alot of gens do too (for the same reason)
  13. Welcome & check the Collectors sections. But, 1st, read this, taking note of item 5 under 'Posting'.
  14. Ending the year with something old & something new Have a happy new year!
  15. They are out there somewhere, but I have not found them yet.
  16. Diesel - Why not just take some needlenose pliers & pull the springbars out (it might help to soak them in WD40 for a few minutes 1st)? If the springbars are all that is holding the end links onto the bracelet, I would not worry about the springbars, which can easily be replaced.
  17. Brevet crown & 7206? bracelet are gen. Hard to tell, from this angle, if the crystal is. I would 'age' the bezel though. Either way
  18. Good book, but it contains a number of mistakes (which doubleredseadweller corrects). There are many posts on TZ & elsewhere that describe many of these if more info is needed.
  19. The 3 questions I would ask are who did the service, was it a proper service or a dip-job & have you returned the watch to the person who last serviced it?
  20. It sounds like a textbook example of a movement that requires standard servicing (cleaning/lubing). The movements in rep watches are used/surplus & few sellers actually service the movements prior to shipment (regardless of the sales hyperbole to the contrary). Contact Ziggy or a local rep-friendly watchmaker to have the watch serviced.
  21. Nothing extraordinary to see here. Looks like a typical 16520, which is a compliment. And I think this is the 1st time I have seen the project in completed form. Beginning the workweek with my usual beater (beater at right)
  22. The menu system was reorganized since that article was written. The info is now in the Watch Collectors forum.
