Yes, it does look like madmacs'. Either way, for the price of an average rep, at the very least, you get what appears to be a gen movement (I think the case may be gen too). That makes it a great deal in my book & I hope to receive mine in a few days. Chris - is the serial number (between the lugs) 726514?

Shawn - No offense, but I (& others) have posted descriptions on how to r&r a tube numerous times in numerous threads. You just need to spend the time (like we all do) to Search out the info. The details of the process depend on your particular case (I deal mostly with vintage models, so I cannot give you specifics regarding the Euromariner or similar modern reps) & having to repeat the same thing over & over again gets old pretty fast. But Alligoat seems to have answered your question. What I can tell you is that the process is very simple - remove the existing tube & install the new 1. If required, drill and/or tap the existing hole (you will know if it is 'required' if the threads do not match and/or new tube binds or does not screw into the hole). The difficulty comes in the practice, as Alligoat, who is certainly a senior member, has described. My recommendation - get 2-3 tubes (you may break 1 or 2), the requisite Rolex tube tool (ofrei.com, julesborel.com, cousinsuk.com, etc.) & the tap that Alligoat recommended (I have never re-tubed a 16610, so I would defer to his knowledge here). Do not force anything. And, again, Search the Rolex & Watch Repair forums for additional details.

Not dead, but it is a fly. He tried to hitch a ride during My Motorcycle Diary Roadtrip. Still wearing my beater (without the hitchhiker)

Both the timeouts in my traceroutes & slow response times cleared up late last night (Wednesday). Everything seems back to normal today, but there was definitely something bottlenecking connections to some of us over the past 2 days.

Shawn - Sorry, but RWG is not really designed as an online tutorial or step-by-step how-to guide (as much as I wish it was). There are many people here who are more than happy to assist you, but you need to do the basic legwork first & ask specific questions. Questions like 'What is the best......?' or 'How do I install a tube?' are just too broad. Which Sub? Modern or vintage? Date or no date? Which model number? Genuine or franken or rep? You see what I mean? Be specific as to exactly what you need to know & you are more likely to get answers. But before posting such general questions, use the Search feature & you will probably find everything you need.

Funville? More like The Money Pit of Fun.

You all might find this interesting.

Yeah, but Duddly Do-Right is just a cartoon. I need some real RCMP protection................ But that is a whole other show.

Just when I thought I finally gave The Ripper the slip.

As usual, I 2nd Alligoat's sage advice. I just purchased a gen AK for $910 a couple of weeks ago & I just missed out on another 1 for $800 a few days before that. So these watches are out there & can still be had for a reasonable price. But if that is too rich for your blood (it is still alot of money for a watch), check out Andrew's or Joshua's sections in the Watch Collectors area (you may need to upgrade your member status to 'Supporter' for access). Because Air Kings keep the superfluous features & bling to a minimum, a good rep is very difficult to ID as being a rep. But, as always, I would recommend that you visit your local AD to familiarize yourself with whichever model you want & then download as many pics of gens as you can. The goal is to learn what the gen looks & feels like on your wrist, then begin your search for the best rep.

My thoughts exactly. And the requisite parts are on the way.
-
Pretty sure. (I hope I am not going to have to keep looking over my shoulder once this watch is finished. ) Hopefully, parts will not be an issue, but I will definitely check with our Watchmeister (Ziggy) if I need anything that cannot be sourced through normal channels (many of the parts are available from Borel). I am going to send you a PM regarding the v72c. Check your mail in a minute.

Glad to see that you have come to your senses & retired the retirement. Welcome home CBR.

Do you know if he would do that (custom print a 6542 dial onto an ETA blank)? Odd that you should even mention that, because I just received such an ETA blank (with dial feet made to fit an ETA) today that I was going to try to print myself. But if MY is able & willing, I would gladly leave it to a pro. Have you spoken with him about this? On the other hand, due to recent developments (noted in 1 of my previous posts above from earlier today), I am hopeful that dial feet will no longer be an issue......if you catch my drift.
-
The dial is aftermarket as well (but a pretty good repro), though I am not sure about the case (judging by the way light reflects off the inner walls of the lug engravings, I would say the case is gen - modern laser etching does not reflect light). But the movement is either gen or someone put in ALOT of time & effort to make it look gen - good enough to fool me. I am putting my money where my mouth is - I just placed my order. Here are some gen pics to compare (Mazzariol is 1 of the authors of the Daytona 'bible')
-
I am completely with Alligoat on this. And if you locate another 1 of these for the same price, PM me. Nice find.
-
They are there if you actually Search for them. Pin yourself to the Watch Repair & Upgrade forum (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).
-
I would rather not publicize the source until I have the movement in house. As for whether it will fit my modded Silix case, we shall see. But, generally speaking, you can just about always make a movement fit a given case. It is just a matter of how much time, effort & money you want to throw at the problem. My real fear is that, although the seller has assured me to the contrary, the movement may be missing some parts that I cannot easily replace. Assuming that is not the case & the movement requires only a standard overhaul, this will actually solve the 1 remaining issue that has been standing in my way of completing this project - finding a way to fix dial feet to an dial that was made without them (the 6542 dial is made to press-fit onto the Rolex movement's main plate).
-
Thanks, Chino. But some of the credit needs to go to By-Tor, whose brilliant GMT reviews were the catalyst that sparked my initial interest in GMTs (though, admittedly, I did veer away from By-Tor's series II predilections to concentrate, instead, on a vintage model ). Unfortunately, it will be a week or more before I will receive the 1035. So maybe I will be able to complete 1 of my other projects before this 1.
-
Thanks, I think you may be right about that.

Is screw-down crown necessary for waterproof watch?

Ditto. -
Yes & I can tell you that after my initial double-take (when I stumbled upon this veritable box of unearthly delights), I did a triple-take, followed by a quadruple-take & then some. Not only does it come with a gen set of 1675 hands, date wheel & dial (though, as you can see, the dial would need to be professionally restored to be usable - which I am considering), but I got the whole shebang for the price of a good average rep. As long as all of the parts are there (I am told they are), the overhaul should not be a problem.
