  1. Actually, it IS her post count that is partly the issue here, but I have hit my limit on this stuff. I trust the moderators will moderate the situation in an equitable manner so we can all get back to winding our mainsprings. Yes?
  2. Was it discussed with VB via PM as a 1st step?
  3. And speaking of straps.........I just received this nearly new 7835/357 folded link from Andy for the 6263 Yes, it has subdial issues, but all of the criticisms I have received so far (during my travels in the wild) related either to the crystal (which I thought looked at least passable.....it looks similar to the original semi-superdome fitted to early 62xx Daytonas.....but it will soon be replaced with a beveled gen T21) or the cheesy rep bracelet (which, as you can see, has been replaced with a gen).
  4. I cannot really disagree, in principle, with the gist of Andrew's initial post. I have been thinking much along the same lines myself -- the fluff factor has been pegging the meters a bit & it is difficult to have to repeatedly scroll half way through so many threads just to get to the watch talk. However, in VB's defense, I think most would agree that VB's watch-related input is insightful and useful. She is quick-witted, intelligent, gets the watch 'thing' & brings a much-needed female perspective to this hobby. Where I do take exception with Andrew's post is the post itself. Were it me, I would have voiced my concerns privately & respectfully via PM. Or, at least, I would have made the attempt to work things out privately through a moderator before taking things public. My guess is that the problem would have been solved, invisibly & without any friction.
  5. I have found that some rep crowns come into contact with the case before they screw all the way down onto the tube. This, of course, allows moisture & dust to enter the case. And if you do not specifically check for this, it is hard to tell just by looking at the watch. After discovering this on the 2nd rep I tested, I started installing tubes a bit further out from the case than you would normally see on a new watch (but I have alot of pictures of vintage gens from TZ & Antiquorum that appear this way)
  6. Phong has some great stuff (and not so great stuff), but most of it is way overpriced. I have gotten a few gen crystals from him that were reasonable & promptly delivered.
  7. Whenever you see pictures that cannot be seen (too blurry, too small, etc.), especially of a movement (the most expensive part of a gen watch), the red flags should go up. This watch may be many things, but genuine is not one of them. Stay away.
  8. Less an endorsement & more an answer to your question. The book is pretty good, but a bit dated since it has not been updated for a few years. But I think it is good reading since it covers a number of popular brands/models & provides basic guides and recommendations that are still useful. The author even references some of the content in RWG (reviews, tech guides, etc.) on his website.
  9. In need of an update, but here is the link
  10. Daytona beater today
  11. Stephane - So where were you when I sold the rest of them? But it is not just Beatle vinyls that are collectible. This (still sealed) CD is considerably rarer than any Butcher Cover vinyl Here is the story of this CD
  12. Yes, 2 of them (at one time, many years ago, I had a baker's dozen). But the other one is a much rarer (and better condition) Stereo version, which I keep in the bank.
  13. Yes and I was hoping the 2 pictures of rare LPs (I have more) would spark a General Discussion of some of the other things members collect in addition to watches (like LPs), but one of the quick-fingered moderators apparently decided the pictures trumped the conversation & moved my thread before I finished the text.
  14. Jon - The He valve is essentially a metal plug/rubber gasket sitting in a hole in the side of the case and held closed with a spring (click here for additional details). As the pressure inside the case increases it will eventually exceed the pressure outside the case. When this threshold is exceeded, the inside pressure 'pushes' the plug outward, opening the plug a bit & allowing the pressure to escape. Because the plug is held in place by a spring, the plug is drawn back into the case returning to its original (closed) position as the pressure inside the case diminishes and equalizes with the outside pressure. To put it simply, it happens automatically, you never do or see anything. themuck - I will add my thank you to all those that preceded me. My only complaint (a pretty large one I am afraid) is that you need to either locate the Macro control on your camera (and learn how to use it) so your close-ups will be useful or get a camera that has one (nearly all digital cameras do). Your review is excellent, but your photos are nearly worthless. And I agree with Offshore's comments (do not assume that all of these watches are similarly pressure & water proof).
  15. Where/when? Details?
  16. Trusty Double Red And here is old trusty sunning by the water at lunch
  17. Copper Dial-Feet Assorted for Wrist Watches Bergeon, 100 piece assortment Swiss Made. BERG-10040 $9.95
  18. Implanted, yes. With little or no hassle, sometimes yes & sometimes no.
  19. Anyone have a spare current version Daytona chrono seconds hand (Asian 7750) in mint condition?
  20. Easy - just replace the part that was ground down.
  21. Take one of the remaining screws to a local watchmaker or jeweler. They should have something similar.
  22. Dress shots you say?
  23. Back to the beater (for Monday) But dreaming of a roadtrip
  24. Sounds like the beginning of the long-feared ETA retrenchment into the bowels of the Swatch Group. But it is curious that only quartz models are (so far) effected. Like Ziggy, I have had suppliers tell me there should not be a problem getting ETA parts for the foreseeable future, but this news does make one wonder. On the other hand, could it be that mechanical movements are beginning to do to quartz movements what quartz did to mechanicals back in the 70's (outsell them)?
