Yes! It's just amazing the wealth of information here! Before I started modding my SSD I found threads from 2007 about that watch. There is an amazing review about a diver that takes the SSD diving.. for a month.. with a crew of divers that had taken their gens to compare with the SSD. It was just an incredible review. They decompressed and everything.. I wish I had done the same search about 6541's before I got into them..this is the best site on the web!

Lot's of cool watches for auction there....hmmm confiscated in florida....fancy watches..drug dealers? Gotta be some reps in that pile?

still stuck on this

M, Awesome thread with pics, info you posted! Thanks for that!

I had an email exchang with him awhile back. I was a little interested in his vintage Seamaster 300(before LHOOQ educated me ) and emailed him about it. I asked if the 800$ for his seamaster included shipping to my zip... He replied it was included. I went back looked at his newsletter and realized it was 900. I didn't mislead him on purpose, but that told me his prices might be flexible.

I did variations of this method too. After time it would still loosen..one time the bezel, insert, and ring all went in different directions across my shop...it was a miracle I found all the parts... I finally sent my watch to Jmb. He machined a new ring and turns perfectly, and hasn't come off since! But that was my experience.

Thanks for the compliment, but mine will pale to what you are building! This is the first I've heard of MBW 6541, but I learn things every day. There's a guy on RG that has one he got from Eurotimez, has the pearl too, but it's thinner and doesn't have the sheild. We concluded it was version one.. from the cartel. The one in the sales thread appears similar and no cover? You can see how deep/thick mine is What kind of prices have you found for the tropic 20? The ones I've come across have been crazy high 350-400$! That's something I'd really like to add to mine So much to learn with reps and how they evolve and all the varieties.. makes them so interesting

Interesting, and nice to see someone else is a fan of this watch! Sounds like you have done alot of research on the 6541. As for the case, phong would be my first choice if I was going to build a super/frankin rep. You mention MBW, I wasn't aware MBW made this rep? Or are planning on using a noguard MBW case? I have the rep from Josh, I've added a gen crown and had the lugholes opened, but that's it. There are two rep versions I know about and mine is the second version with a little more accurate case. When considering a case for this watch you have to allow for the magnetic cover. My rep is 37mmx17mm thick..Although it has an ETA with the cover as opposed to a gen movement. As for inserts..someone here will come along and identify those. Mine came with an actual Bakelite insert. It wears really pretty big for such a small watch due to the thickness. My hands also have no lume and might work for you. When I was researching 6541's awhile back and saw one on the rolex forum with those mecedes hands...the owner was told they didn't come with the watch but were hasty replacements, so I don't know if they would work. I saw JoJo's dial for sale awhile ago...that's an awesome dial! Really look forward to watching your progress and wish you luck!

If it's not...contact me Looks great!

I don't remember what version of the gen has the light or the dark, but one does have a light "steel" looking Hev. Mines dark.

We are talking about the tiny etched crown at the 6 in the crystal. New gens have it, but it's almost invisible..almost need a loupe to see it on gens. But on our reps that have it, it's giant in comparison and can easily be seen.... and screams Fake!

I haven't touched my 1665 since delivered from Josh a few months ago. As soon as my SSD is finished the 1665 will be next. I agree, I like the T19, Jmb is putting a gen T19 on my 5512 as we speak. Really would like an all white dial for it and have looked at Yuki's... anyone used Yuki's gt white 1665 dial?
-
yeah, no kidding! Just when I was really liking my 5512.... M..seriously, that is one heck of a sub you have my friend! It's even better than I thought it would be. You have always gone over the top with your watches and this one proves it!

Awesome! Im going to find a dial for this. I really appreciate all the comments and help here! This is one of my favorite watches. I like the way it wears and feels. For me, it's the perfect watch(at least this week ) I hate the idea of clipping dial feet on a gen dial, but the dial won't be resold. Both of those dwellers with new dials look great! I hope someday someone figures out a way to remove the etching.

It's got a gen insert txcollector..the pearl is full of tiny cracks and I put a dab of epoxy on it. It looks much better in person than those pics show. Diamond polishing..that's an interesting idea z80. Any idea what's involved? Has this been done before?

That's too bad, it really would have been great to have a modern Sea Dweller at the level of the Wm9 sub! Mine will have to do for now, but I really was hoping to change crystal. Still, the dial would be a big step if anyone knows if the gen will fit? Thanks Txcollector!

Really a nice one!

We are making it the previous version... and besides ....I love lugholes!

Does anyone know for a fact that a genuine Rolex or Clark crystal will fit? I hate that tiny white crown etching...and would really like it gone. I'm hoping others have gone before me and tried these mods out and found what works or not. Will a genuine dial fit? I've searched here and other places with not much luck. If a gen dial doesn't fit then I will have it relumed. With the help of our own Jmb, we have been upgrading my SSD. About the only things left to do are dial, crystal and maybe a gen bracelet. So I'm curious, has anyone swapped crystals and dials? I've been tracking a couple auctions for dials. I do not wanna shell out that kinda cash.... to find it's a really bad fit. So far this has been done: drilled lugs/opened bracelet, gen crown/tube, and Bk datewheel, gen insert. If anyone here has modded thier SSD please jump in!

Wow M! As usual ...you never mess around and do something halfway.. Glad it's finally done and on you wrist! I offer my humble 5512

So the WSO bezel fits the noob case?
