And some parts will just dry up completely. The autowind wheels on my 1030 movements for example. When they die and there are NO replacements then the watch becomes a paperweight. So my Frankens with ETA hearts get more and more use.
Wow, you're kidding! I'll look at it with my loupe. I was thinking it was chipped... look closely at my photo, at 37 minutes on the insert there's a piece chipped out of the black. I sure hope I can just clean that off the 40.

Roger that, when you have a genuine crown and tube with a little wax on the threads (dental floss) it's so nice and smooth you want to just play with it all day.
I love that dial! Now you have to make the hands match it. A very simple (and irreversible) way to add some tint is to hold a lit cigarette close to the hands (while they're mounted on toothpicks) and let the heat discolor them. Go slow.

Realistically its a $4,000 piece as it sits, because.... 1) it's iconic and, 2) there are only about 14 of them in the world.
