Yeah, subtle ... understated ... never drawing attention, always happy to quietly live in the shadows. One thing I've got to say, It took Seiko and Harold to finally make a set of Beads Of Rice endlinks that fit the cushion case. When you drive vintage Doxa, you gotta be okay with the fact the doors never shut right and they rattle and jingle all the time. Not so with the AXOD. Rock solid.

Funny thing about that, my boy lives in Kotzebue now, above the arctic circle, and he says the sun goes down at night. Maybe just a smidgen but it goes down. So much for math and tangents and arctic circles! Good eye, old friend. It's the new Seiko SRP777 Turtle, a re-creation of the venerable 6309 diver. Harold (Yobokies) has new parts for this case and for the mini-Turtle and they look fantastic. He calls them the AXOD watches. Orange Pro, Yellow Divingstar, Black Sharkhunter or Blue Caribbean ... roll yer own.

We have lots of good watchsmiths listed here, both CONUS and overseas. MyManMatt and Misiekped are the ones I've been using for the last few years, which isn't to say the other guys aren't just as good. But I can speak from personal experience that both of my guys are absolutely exemplary. Their work is beyond reproach, and they keep me well informed as the job progresses. I have quite a few genuine vintage pieces and I'd send them to either of these good men before I'd send them to Rolex S.A. Think about that for a minute. I trust them more than I trust Rolex itself. When we list a modder / watchsmith here on RWG and give them a subforum to represent their work, it is no small thing. We hold them to the highest standards, and that is reviewed constantly. They "speak for us" when we endorse them. That's not to be taken lightly. If there's a modder on our site with his own subforum, you can trust him/her to treat you right and do a complete and professional job. I consider us lucky that a few of these guys have agreed to take up shop here. Use them judiciously. Them being here is no oversight or lucky accident. We approached them and asked if they're interested in being here. When they agreed we had a small celebration in the Admin / Mods area, and yes, the damn Moderators drank all the scotch in the cabinets AGAIN. Ah well, it's a small price to pay for the hard work they do, and the watchsmiths we're able to snag, to benefit our members. Next rounds are on me, boys.

Michael Young will make that Jubilee like new. He does amazing work. You also have some worn / bent / stretched links. Look at the one I circled, it’s been pulled “open”, resulting in that gap. My 9305 bands wear like that, where the pin passes through the center links. They develop a groove inside the bend and get weak, the gaps open up and they look stretched.

Yeah we're thick with critters this year and there's some large "caliber" bears among them. Behold the Rolex Poo-Dweller.

We won’t talk about my run-in with the huge brown bear yesterday. I took the dogs up the trail to do the hike around Mt. Baldy. Parked the Rover and we all got out, I locked it and we started uphill toward the trail and the dogs alerted, hackled up and took off up across the ditch just as a BIG brown bear stuck his head up and turned to look. He was maybe 20 yards away in deep grass and alders. I hollered HEY then STOP! and both dogs did! Color me amazed. They looked at me as the bear jumped up and started moving past me, right to left, maybe 15 yards away on a tangent. I called the dogs as I watched him and he came down across the ditch onto the trail just as the dogs got back to the Rover, I was between him and the dogs thinking “this is not good” then I opened the door and the dogs jumped in! I watched him as he walked down the trail like Big Booty Judy, then turned up into the trees again. Wow. Big bear.

Always check the “E”s. Look how long the middle leg is and is it centered between the top and bottom legs... usually it’s not supposed to be. Usually.

Nope, that dial is crap. Compare with mine from 1962, note mine is the "radial" dial. I think the case is wrong too. Compare with mine at top right: My advice? Run away from it.

Welcome back you old codger! You want nostalgia? Late one night in 2003 or 2004 I was checking the forum and Halley popped up on PM. Remember him? He had just got a teaser from some guy named David that just created a new account, and wondered if we'd be interested in some 19mm Daytona reps. Halley said sure, send me some pics. David did, and Halley sent these to me right away... the very first "DW Daytonas" to appear on a forum anywhere. Me and Halley ordered the first 5 watches DW sold. Boy, were we jazzed. The rep world hadn't seen anything like this before. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I can't take much credit for it I'm afraid, I just knew what parts to choose from the nearly endless list. And voila' a "Doxa" that's arguably more durable and waterproof than the gen, for 1/5 the price. And it's still a "gen" watch. I'm toying with an idea. You know our modders here that have made the *perfect* decals of dials to slide onto gilded base plates? I'm thinking of a "Black Lung" decal for the 3rd quadrant, but instead of "u.s. divers" make it "arctic divers"

Just arrived today, and what a looker! But what the heck IS it? It’s not a Doxa, it’s a little too big. The shape is right, the details are there... But what’s with the crown at 4:00? Great wrist presence, at 44mm it’s beefy but not top heavy. Ahhhhhh now I see. It’s a Seiko SRP Prospex, designed after the iconic 63xx “Tuna” watches from the 70s but dolled up in Doxa livery with a gorgeous domed sapphire crystal. Available from our friend Harold at Yobokies.
