  1. Okay new contest, what restaurant am I sitting in?
  2. There ya go, rub salt in my open, bleeding wounds. The paaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnn,,,,, (just kidding, you know me.... always wanting it just because I don't have it. Don't really NEED it......)
  3. Fifty bucks, E. That's what he quoted me for his gen 7924 with hand-wind movement (broken reversing wheels). FIFTY bucks.
  4. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yes. Please send it now. Don't stop, don't hesitate. Put it in the mail! PUT IT IN THE MAIL! Don't stop! DON'T THINK!! MAIL IT NOW!!!!! (did that work?)
  5. Okay since you're the maestro at building Tudors, which case would you start with?
  6. I got a call from my Rolex AD watchmaker, he said a friend of his was selling off a stack of vintage Tudor Subs. He had got them cheap, like $50 each, because there were broken. For the most part it was because the reversing wheels on the 390 movements were dead. This was before the big boom in Tudors. He said he was pretty sure there was a 7924 Big Crown in there and he'd see if he could snag it for me. A month went by and I just went down to check on it, he said as soon as the guy found out these old pieces were worth something he changed his mind. Drat! Missed it by that much.
  7. Easy... 21.6k bpm vs. 28.8 bpm Is this going to be a 7924 homage? Gotta watch this one! One of my favorites.
  8. "Hey Jube, don't make it bad Take a sad watch, make it less cra-aa-ppy. Remember to get it into your box, Then those tick-tocks, with make you happy."
  9. Cartier response: "send it in, triple bubble wrapped and insured/registered for one BILLLLLLLLION dollars. We'll see if we can fit you in *snif* some time in the next calendar year. And you'll be happy to have it, peasant." RWG response: "Send it to our own local in-house registered factory repair guy and if he doesn't have the parts in hand, or if he can't get them in a couple days, he will, By Gawd, MAKE them for you. And he most likely won't accept any payment for the work, but we all chuckle and ignore him and throw money at him anyway. Oh, and it will be done RIGHT, the first time, and every time." This is why I love this place. Has anyone noticed that "Cartier" and "Caroline" and "Crispian" all start with the letter "C"? RobertResh, stick around for awhile and you'll understand what I mean by that.
  10. And the mighty, well oiled RWG machine springs to life once more.
  11. While the dial is relumed, make sure to do the same lume color fill inside the pearl, or even slightly darker.
  12. Between your right kidney and Ken's left nut, we have a good start to a whole different kind of "franken" here. Be careful not to hit that pearl, they're surprisingly fragile.
  13. Say, DP is that an extra kidney I see there? Bingo, parts paid for.
  14. There's your solution. JAG will take good care of you.
  15. I had the same thought process. Having had an Android tablet and having tweaked it to death, it was great fun but made me realize the unintended consequences of living with a device that knows all your personal details, and may be whispering them to someone else across the back fence. Not good, not secure. So I have jailbroken iPhones... same benefits and same problems. Trade digital security for digital freedom, and find your own comfortable balancing point.
  16. It's time to come to the Dark Side. Welcome.
  17. It never ends and unfortunately the smaller the details, the higher the price... exponentially. My favorite 4 vintages are all complete now, back to almost completely original (aftermarket small-pointer red hand in my 1675) and each tiny detail to bring them back was HUNDREDS of dollars. There are still 3 tiny additional changes I could make that are technically not necessary but will be $2,500 or so. So when I look at them do I see the 99.99% that's perfect? Nooooooooo I see the one minuscule detail. What circle of WIS does that put us in?
  18. DO NOT send it to Cartier! Seriously. My M-I-L had an 18k Cartier with round face and quartz movement. It had a stuck screw in the band so she couldn't size it, and it needed a battery. She sent it in against my advice and one thoooouuuuusssaaaannnndddddd dollars later she got it back, polished and a new screw and a battery. There's no rocket science there. A good watchmaker can refinish the case and G&S or Sternkreuz make a huge assortment of replacement crystals. It will be months faster and 1/5 the price.
  19. It's these tiny details that make the pieces so much nicer. My snowflake looked really good but "something" about it was sticking in the back of my mind making me feel uneasy. It was an intangible. I sent it off to JustAsGood and he made some very VERY minor case modifications, and now the cognitive dissonance is gone. You look at it and everything adds up the same, no little nagging twitches in the back of your mind anymore. The right insert and pearl are like that; they make the educated brain go "ahhhh, all is well."
  20. My favorite wife immersed her iphone4 in hairspray (you don't want to know how) so its operation was, um, iffy. Off to the Apple store! No time to waste! It turned out I was eligible for an upgrade. Booooy was I eligible. It's been so long they paid ME to take my old beater out of circulation. But what's this? No iphone5 in Alaska for a month? The look of dread on SWMBO's face was heart-wrenching. So I got a 4s and she got a 4s and Robert's your uncle. Now I'm insulting this little tart named Siri that's hiding in there somewhere. What fun!
  21. Take a look at these.... http://bit.ly/SbJqf3
  22. Come on up buddy! Got lots of room in the igloo!
  23. It's a little early but we're way up in the mountains so winter comes sooner. We got about a foot, it tapered off by about 9AM
  24. Got an inch so far tonight, still coming down!
