  1. "Maniac"?! I must say I resemble that comment, thank-you-very-much! I know for a fact that vintage Rolex will refuse to continue running if they are not used/abused on a regular basis. So mine go mtn biking with me, and to hockey practice, and mtn climbing. It keeps us both young!
  2. Well said. I'm with you, anything newer than "domed plexiglas" just doesn't do it for me. Here's my favorite, it was scarred to heck from 30+ years of hard use commercial diving and instructing, then Larry tore his foot off in an accident so his diving days were over. At his funeral his wife handed it to me, she said he wanted me to have it. I've got 1,000 hours commercial diving too, so we were comrades but my time was nothing like his. Anyway, this is how I received it, and the condition it's in now. Rest in peace, Larry.
  3. Thanks! That's my birth month/year watch.
  4. Sorry the trails I was on, you hang on with both hands! And no stopping on the hills!
  5. ...and fresh coffee. Perfect after a gnarly mtn bike ride.
  6. Going with old steel today, the mountains are calling.
  7. Yeah nice try. You gotta pull something truly heinous to get banned here. Like trying to pawn off Ken's left nut. (again)
  8. That's right baby, banned from TWO gen forums. Beat that!
  9. Nice ban! I can beat that, I was banned from WUS. :neener:
  10. It's an AOPA (Aircraft Owners And Pilots Association) triple date chrono, made by Charles Gigandet. It's almost identical to the first Breitling Navitimers and there's an AOPA chrono that looks nearly identical. But I've never seen another one like it.
  11. Yeah I'd love to know more about it, It's the AOPA version and I've never seen another, thought I've seen a nearly identical AOPA Breitling from the same era.
  12. Check out the similarities to this one.
  13. Nicely done. It's a pleasure to see someone just dive in and DO it. I like your results so far.
  14. Oh yes, very nice. Now THAT'S a chrono to lose sleep over. I've got a woody soft place in my heart for pre-TAG Heuers.
  15. Yes, it was almost bone stock in those photos.
  16. Don't you mean *MY* 5510? That's right... I'm patient. I can wait............
  17. An ongoing dispute between two forum members took an ugly turn, resulting in Moderators being abused by the parties involved. This is a direct violation of Forum rules, so both members received stern warnings to knock it off and to fix their problems on their own without Mods/Admin intervention. The warnings were ignored and the abuse continued so both members are banned. After GTHARN was banned he opened another account "BarkingMad" and that account is now banned too. He also emailed The Boss (may his name be praised) last night with this comment: "if you do not put my account back on ASAP i will not send out any watches that have been paid for by paypal gift" To my way of thinking that's cause for concern by all members having open transactions with him. -----ALL MEMBERS WITH OPEN/PENDING TRANSACTIONS WITH GOTOHAVEAROLEXNOW----- You can contact him to conclude your business using his registering email address: watchnut100@hotmail.co.uk Be sure to read (again) the pinned topic on the General Discussion page that clarifies the Mods/Admin team will not get involved in private transaction disputes. Some reasonable steps to pursue satisfaction are contained in that posting.
  18. M@T, the strength of RWG lies in its many members working together to share information, good and bad, about our hobby. We have a massive knowledge base here, and we're happy to share it. We also, among the thousands of us, weekly visit the vast majority of the web's watch enthusiast cubbyholes, dark alleys, shiny storefronts and discount plazas. When we find a good bloke, we share the good news. When we find a scammer, we share that too. There is our strength. It's not up to the Admins or Mods, it's up to the thousands of good people here diligently trying to do the right thing to help each other out. Keep up the good work, people.
  19. Daniel, that's how the very old MBWs were built. The one in the photo was from 1997-ish, and a very very good piece. It now lives in the EU. So when you see an ad for a "vintage MBW", look it over closely. It's a good bet.
  20. Gentlemen, the Admin and Mods team has been spending far too much time intervening in disputes regarding private transactions. Please be aware that any private transactions you enter into are the sole responsibility of the members involved. The Admins/Moderators are not referees and will not take sides in sorting out disputes, so please do not PM them when a sale or purchase goes wrong. With the exception of mass-scams, PMs of this type will be ignored & repeated spamming of groups of Admins/Moderators may lead to action brought against the sender. That said, we would encourage all members to try to settle disputes between themselves. Always be mindful that people have offline lives & may not always be able to respond immediately. As a rule, you should give the other party at least 1 week to respond before posting public complaints or considering more serious actions. If, after that time, you have not received a response, that is the time to post public comments in the forums. It is always best to avoid complaints to Paypal or credit card companies, if at all possible. These should be used only as a last resort after all other reasonable options have been tried. Now please, carefully read this position statement again. Learn it, memorize it. Expect the Admin and Moderators team to use these guidelines going forward.
  21. If it was up to me, I'd try a drop of hydrogen peroxide from a toothpick onto a lume marker. Let it soak and see what happens.
