  1. A 15-foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake caught recently near the St. Augustine Outlet, in Jacksonville, FL. How many 20mm straps can we get out of this puppy?
  2. Simple, really ... and right under your nose. I click the "chain" icon above my post here, and fill in the blanks... Here's my link You can do a "view source" on this page to see how it looks, but basically you have: <url="put a target url in here">here is the text for my link</url> In the rest of the world that's done with an "a href" tag: <a href="http://CoverYourASP.com/Hello.asp">go to my hello page</a>
  3. I bet #3 won't be saying that. <---literally
  4. You say "warped" like it's a bad thing!
  5. Good question, Dems. On my 1680 the serial numbers are separate and should be noted on any service paperwork. Case 54477** and movement D5123**. That information was actually needed within the last year, as the person I got it from swore up and down that it used to have a quick-set date. But that movement age compares favorably to the case age by serial number, and that movement series does not quickset. Useful, eh?
  6. Rats! I bet if you keep an eye open "over there" you'll see it appear within a week.
  7. They call these Career Limiting Moves. Actually, these were taken at the last RWG Leadership Conference!
  8. I like how this guy thinks! Modded Sea Dweller
  9. Oh man, what great news! Do you know how lucky you are? Conservatively, perhaps one in 30, or worse, gets a working bezel out of his efforts, and those are the more current models where they sold many more of each. A 300T bezel is much more likely to fit another 300T, but a 300 no-T? It takes a brave man to tackle this, one willing to settle for something that's "almost right" and to be happy with that. But to come out the other side with a working bezel? Pardon me while I clutch my chest and collapse. Well done, mate! And to Arthur ... you da MAN. You made this possible! Now let's pull the skirts off this beauty and show us what she's made of! EDIT: Aw heck, I can't leave it at that. What a wussy reply. Do you know how screwed you would have been "over there" to try and pull this off? Or at any other of the stuffy and decrepit Doxa watch fora? Good luck with that, they'd be looking down their long noses at you and grinning at the newb that fell into the same trap that captured them. This place is something else. This place we call RWG jr. is, in my not-so-humble opinion, head and shoulders better than any other forum. Of course, they all say that as they congratulate each other. Sure, go over to VRF and watch them stroke each other for another (yawn) ultra-rare acquisition. Yawn. Well played, mate... another DRSD for your collection! Yawn. Or the WUS Doxa forum... sure we'll act like we want you to succeed, but forget any sacrifice on our part. We'll chalk it up to a lack of readily available parts, while we eye our cache of rare bits in back of the work bench. This place? We're another breed entirely. A gentleman from Hawaii politely posts a need for an uber-rare part, and does he get laughter and derision? NO, he gets the damned part he needs to finish his project. That part COST somebody something, and no thanks are asked for, or expected. It's just the way we are "over here". And for that, I wouldn't trade a pile of gold. Lani, Arthur... you ROCK. Hard. I'm honored to think that I walk the same halls as you. Well done, mates. Well done.
  10. Excellent!! That's part of the Iditarider program, and that was shot on one of my favorite winter mtn bike trails!! In winter those are the Black Holes from Hell and completely unpassable, but in winter we call them trails. Here ya go...
  11. Hey, amigo we've got lots of experience with that up here. When it gets bad enough it's called Cabin Fever and then there are rifles and Troopers involved. I've never thought much of those blue LEDs, what you need is STRONG full spectrum light on your retinas. The ever delectable Ms. Nanuq uses a SAD light (Seasonal Affective Disorder) with strong fluorescent full spectrum tubes in it, and has it on for an hour every morning. It's considered a durable medical good here so it's even covered by our insurance. My solution is to join a shinny hockey league for noon games. I keep the gear in my truck and meet over at the pond for an hour skate. That gets the heart going, you get lots of sunlight on your retinas, and it keeps the rifle in the closet where it belongs. You can also try biking to work, the sun is up earlier for you and you might be able to pull off some sunshine that way. Or you can try some XC skiing after work, or snowshoeing. Whatever it takes to get out for an hour of sun every day. Sunlight and Sweat. Every day. You'll do okay, Double-T. Don't confuse the move and job change with seasonal light, either. That can be an excuse and you shouldn't overlook your many friends here if you need to unload a little. That's another huge pressure valve to keeping the rifle put away.
  12. No sweat ma brotha, I'll send you a pair. The 300 Rambler looks complete and sweet... Probably it will go for around $1,950. The DS? A little less, it's nice but not as collectible as the first run 300s are. And check the inner bezel ring hash marks... I think yours is accurate, his is weird-ish. I'm guessing 1,850 for it. Prices are climbing with every sale, boys... Get 'em while they're still cheap!
  13. Are the ones on your gorgeous 300 Pro in bad shape? No problem... PM me your address. Oh wait... maybe I already have it here!
  14. How about these?
  15. @Red, believe it or not, the early Doxa Beads of Rice bracelets were even flimsier than early Rolex. I know, let that soak in... it's hard to believe. Wait for it... wait for it... There, when the twinge behind your eye stops you've accepted the fact. Consequently, vintage Beads of Rice that don't look like a bunch of broken Slinky parts are truly impossible to find. A few years ago I ran across an Ebay auction for several perfect NOS Beads of Rice bracelets for early Doxa. I won it, and now I'm verrrrrry slowly selling them off. A guy named Red (small world?) that owns a dive shop in Rhode Island had a Black Lung in desperate need of a BOR so I grudgingly sold one to him. I gave another away to a friend with a Black Lung, and I kept one for my Sharkie 300. I doubt you'll be able to find any more of the rascals, but it's fun to try. I do happen to have about 20 pairs of NOS endlinks though... all new and unused and they fit the 300 case.
  16. Get your checkbooks limbered up, lads... there's a couple of real winners up for sale. Ubi?? Time to move on this first one. Sub 300 Searambler Sub 300T Divingstar
  17. Another thing to consider, many dive watches with deep ratings have thick cases so they don't deform under pressure. I read a test that took several deep divers to max pressure in a lab, and the casebacks on some deformed enough to stop the watch. So I consider a 1665 or early Doxa with their thick engraved backs as just part of what was needed in the era before dive computers... if it absolutely positively HAS to run to time your dive, then you gotta do what it takes to protect that little mechanical heart.
  18. There you go, flaunting forum rules again. Do I need to point out subparagraph 13© of section IV which clearly states: "Being a forum dedicated to precision and masterful attention to detail, all photos of completed projects showing any pairs of working parts will be by necessity balanced by additional photography showing the reciprocal, or opposite, pairs of attached parts." It's all in the name of maintaining balance and integrity in our fair forum. I'm sure you understand. Now hop to it!
  19. Hey Ubi I think you misspelled "pecs".
  20. Alright Hike, you apparently haven't read the forum rules in awhile. There are rules regarding our posts on this board, and we take those rules very seriously. I need to draw your attention to rule number 42-A, paragraph 3, subparagraph 2ii, line 17 which clearly states: "No post displaying embedded pictures may contain exactly ten (10) such pictures. Either stop at nine, or add more. Forget ten. Ten doesn't exist." So in light of our published Forum Rules, you're obligated to put up some more. Now get to it!
  21. Freddy, once you get the bracelet sorted out, find some Flitz metal polishing paste. That's the stuff I used on my 7206 to get it brightened up a bit, to match my old case. In the process I "accidentally" got a LOT of the stuff jammed down into my links and I worked that thing over mercilessly for about a week, letting the paste erode away the irregularities from the manufacturing process. When I was happy with its feel I cleaned it thoroughly and voila' it's silky and smooth as a baby's butt. It extends and retracts smoothly with no catches, and it flexes nicely around the wrist. Have you noticed that the "plane" of the bracelet is above the "plane" of the endlinks? It ought to extend smoothly in one continuous plane from the midline of the endlink out into the midline of the bracelet links, but on each side, 6:00 and 12:00, my bracelet sits proud of the endlink connection point by perhaps 1mm. Same with yours?
  22. It was a wild night at Chez Nanuq, the Mountain House caught firmly in the teeth of another winter storm, so I built a fire in the woodstove and watched the howling wind and blowing snow. To add to the enjoyment I made Kaladi Brothers shots of Trieste espresso, and mixed it with Ghirardelli dark chocolate powder. A little silky foam on top, and life is good.
  23. Beautiful!!!!
  24. Those are an analog depth gauge and a compass. I'm with you, the whole "Panerai" thing just leaves me thinking "ehhh..."
