  1. Nah, you're never in trouble until the bleeding starts. The crystal should sit on the case, and the bezel presses down over it, to squeeze the thing and make it stay on there. Don't use Superglue! It will give off fumes that haze the inside of the crystal, and ruin it. Let's see some photos as you progress... this will be fun!
  2. Good luck! I've found that 99% of the time, success comes not from planning it to death, but from jumping in with guns blazing, and fighting the monster into submission. However... The one thing that sets an accurate early Daytona apart from the cheapie reps is the subdial spacing. Most have the small eyes too far apart. Kinda like Marty Feldman. The big upheaval in Daytonas came from the "ExtraExtra" 6263 with correct(er) spacing, and then the DW Daytona with accurate spacing. If you've got a DW dial I'm about 3,000% certain it won't fit your movement. And likely your case diameter is not the correct, so the bezel won't fit either. This is why God made power tools. Now you gotta ask yourself just how far you're willing to take this? Is it entertainment, or do you want a reasonably accurate piece when you're done?
  3. Mmmmmmmm, tasty! I may as well eat dinner now, I've already had my dessert!
  4. Gratulerer med dagen! Happy birthday to you two too!
  5. You got it baby, the boys "over there" seem to have an overdeveloped sense of self importance. Humor didn't fix the problem so I'm thinking I just need to walk away and stay away. It's a lot nicer over here for sure. Now who has the best Sub??? Sub 300 that is....
  6. That is one handsome piece, my friend! The USD logo really sets off the dial. We're gonna have to form a Doxa GTG! How about at Lani's place? ....and I'll be there as soon as I get my money tree to start producing. At 7 degrees outside there's not much "fruit" popping out!
  7. Doxa? DOXA??!!! Heeeyyyyyyyy how come I can't find it?! Gee thanks fer nuttin'
  8. Yeah Lani, that other place is pretty underwhelming eh? Let's see if we can't find a bezel from here at home. There's no place like RWG.
  9. Instead of shooting, how about an amputation? Or swimming wit da fishes?
  10. I had a truly horrific gouge in a Tropic 39 Superdome once, and found I could hold a knife on edge and scrape the blade sideways, peeling off layers of plastic until I removed the gouge completely. Then I used abrasive toothpaste to get my rough dome shape back, then I used SoftScrub (kitchen sink cleanser) to polish it up smooth as a baby's butt. It came out perfect. Thanks Jojo!
  11. Yeah, forget ever finding that crown again. My Sharkie has some pathetic little button crown on it, doesn't screw down, and I keep it away from water. The crown and tube on my LeJour Superman look nearly identical to the Doxa parts, unsigned of course, and do screw down. If someone was to take them off the donor watch and cut new threads in the Doxa case, he might have a waterproof Sharkie. There's my $100 gamble.
  12. So... P4GTR has the best Sub? It has Skyland lume dots?
  13. Hey Freddy, I'm supposed to regard your PM about a Best Sub. Do you have ANY idea what Dems is talking about?
  14. Agreed 1000% Lani. Once you go vintage Doxa, there's no going back. They just "fit" so nice. Here's hoping we find you a bezel for that puppy, and soon. And as soon as that happens, your black bezel there looks just like a 1675 bezel for a franken project. Check out the shape of its knurling. Does your crown screw down? It ought to have a small clutch inside, and when pressed in gently, it should "grab" and thread onto the tube. If the stem is bent, but it still screws down, then you might be fine. It will be a BUGGER getting that back off, but if you do a new stem should be a piece of cake. Check out your endlinks, they're rounded where they fold over. Those are the real early ones, my BL is like that. I have a stash (perhaps the only stash) of gen vintage endlinks, about 20 pairs left. All are identical and all are square edged at the fold. If you want to try a set, I'll send some to you.
  15. Ohhhhhhh, that's nice!! Congratulations big guy!! That is one superb vintage! Signed crown, complete BOR bracelet, ringed caseback... she's a beauty! The boys over on TSFWIBB think you might find a bezel there... I have email addresses for some enthusiasts that have posted photos of bezels so I have a real good feeling about this. Isn't that bracelet just the best? I'm nuts about mine. And yes, that little tab is supposed to stick out like that... even though you can bend your wrist and release its tension. Who saw that coming? I wouldn't necessarily think that's a redial. Yes the lume is bright so it's probably new. But the font and spacing is dead-on to original, and that font is HARD to do. The one thing that makes me wonder though, is the tiny lume dot between the "hyphen" and the date in its little black box. Yours is missing. But you know what's cool about that? You're about to discover that Doxa enthusiasts couldn't care less if it's a redial. A Rolex-aholic would fall over dead at the mere mention, but Doxa? Bring it on... it's all good. No matter where you post those closeups, you'll get high fives and offers to buy you a beer. It's that nice. What a score!!! You should be a proud, proud man. Congratulations!

My pleasure! It's sure good to see it here on such a stunner. I've got to say too, your case work is at least as nice as the one RepAustria did... And I fell in LOVE with that one! Very, very, verrrrry nice.

Never fear, there's a solution for that too.
  18. That's a nice Kenai River eagle, Dems! It's tough to catch a glimpse in the wild, but sometimes you get lucky.

Those photos should be THE reference shots for modding crown guards. Utterly superb. Magnificent.
  20. With.......... cloven hooves? You may have something there!
