  1. Wow that was great!! And yes, bears can definitely be habituated to humans like that. These are from Charlie's cabin up north of here on the Yentna river.
  2. Well of course I was going to use the pics so other members could see what I was describing. So be it. In this model, the inks used for the dial underline were produced from lime mined along the shores of the Amazon. However, during August (3rd week) native ritual dance replaces all other activity, the most secret and mysterious being the "Babaloo". To perform this dance correctly one must smear oneself with a generous layer of white dye, or have it tattooed into one's skin. It is also not uncommon to find natives adorning themselves with white dyed jewelry. The problem presented to WIS collectors is that the lime becomes so depleted during late August and early September, the underlines on Rolex dials produced during this period are always pale when compared to other months of the year. Look at that underline. It's pathetically pale. The careful observer will also note the tip of the minutes hand is ever so slightly rounded. This is due to Hans Wildorf's obsession with using a tool until it is thoroughly worn out before replacing it. Any true WIS would know that all minutes hand stamps are placed into the production lines in the 3rd week of December (Hans' one true offering of generosity during the Yule seasons) and that the stamps always wear to the point of producing rounded minute hand tips by ... August. This is therefore an August production watch, with a pale underline, hence genuine.
  3. Well nobody has mentioned the glaring flaw I see, so I'll toss it out there for discussion. Who sees the difference between my MBW and Josh's piece? Think MBW 6538 "Big Crown"... MBW crown, all original: Joshua's crown:
  4. Hey where's the pics?! I wanna play too!
  5. Very nicely done! Thank you for taking the time mah brotha. I think the height of the crystal wall is being hidden by an insert that's pressed in too "conical" instead of being flatter in the bezel. Can you flatten it down any? I also think I see one glaring flaw, I'll wait for others to chime in to see if I'm just overly picky. Like THAT'S ever happened before!
  6. Dang, Dems! We'll just call you Eagle Eyes from now on.
  7. Okay here's some good advice from an old Scoutmaster... the best use for antiperspirant is on your feet. Especially in winter. It sounds weird, I know. But your socks will stay a lot drier, your feet will be warmer and you won't get nearly as many blisters on long hikes.
  8. I usually just grind my face against a brick wall... no razors needed. Seriously, I've used BIC single blade razors for years and have always sworn by them. But on a recent return from a flight, when I couldn't find my beloved BIC, my favorite wife offered to let me use her Girly Razor, it's pink with a trillion (or more) blades. Gotta admit, that sucker got my face smoooooooth as a baby's butt. But I had no aim, so I shaved off half an earlobe and half my chin. Ya gotta make your choice and live by it: few blades = good aim. Lotsa blades = close and comfy shave, bad aim.

EXCEPT!!!!!!!!!!! You don't want a smooth sweep with a 1665. They should have a slow beat movement. You should be able to get up, change the channel, retrieve and open a fresh brew in between the ticks of the seconds hand on a 1665. Honest. They're that slow. Wait. Wait a minute ... my watch stopped. (shaking) Oh, never mind. Scratch that.

That's a heck of a good watch to start out with. And is that a (gasp) silver datewheel? Whooaaaaa... Hollow midlinks in the bracelet, domed crystal with a vertical lip, not bad... not bad... it will take some work to get it more gen looking but it's a great start!
  11. Hey, check out the SFWIBB! T-bone replied to your intro and asked if anyone has a bezel for you. SWEEEEEEEEEEET!!! Just don't dare make a joke. Nothing humorous or edgy. Don't make waves or you'll suffer the Wrath Of T-Bone, as did I.

Ah, TT, but that implies a defensive posture. The best method in a scenario like this is to advance. So buy three more watches. Don't give him time to consider the subdial spacing, move on to something else that's not a rep of something too expensive, and AS SOON AS he shows up with the new Speedie, flash the next model. It will take the wind right out of his sails and you get to enjoy more watches! Edit: in reply to Wombat, you can even pick up some darn nice gen pieces on the 'Bay for very small cash. Vintage dive watches are well made, look expensive, they're very "different" and they're cheap. Here's a LeJour Superman I picked up for $100.
  13. Yeah I saw your intro post, well done! And what a rousing response! It just makes you feel warm all over, doesn't it? Face it, you're Da Man here at RWG and nobody's gonna love you like we do. (Yeah yeah yeah, cool it By-Tor, you're Da Man next week. Check your Mod calendar.)
  14. Freddy will chime in here shortly, but I bet the crown is trashed inside. It's a common problem with Doxa, there's a little "clutch" in there that gives up. Chicken_Manny had the same problem with his. The easiest solution would be a new crown threaded onto that stem, as long as the crown screws down onto your tube. I doubt it will be waterproof, but I never swam with my Daytona anyway. My Daytona had an "unfortunate incident" with a tile floor and the crown was trashed, so I took it off the stem, put another rep Triplock on there, and bingo zingo, all was well.
  15. Very nice! Thanks for taking the time to post this, it's a beauty.
  16. Yeah baby! You know, one of those Mil-Sharks would look pretty good on that burly wrist of yours...
  17. My new Nail Gun, made by Dewalt. It can drive a 6d nail thru a 2x4 at 200 yards. This makes construction a real breeze ... you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence. Just get the wife and kids to hold the fence boards in place while you sit back, relax with a cold beer, and when they have the board in the right place, just fire away. With the hundred round magazine, you can build a fence with a minimum of reloading. After a day of fence building with the new Dewalt Rapid Fire nail gun, the wife will not ask you to fix or build anything else. Ever again. Available for a little more is the "band-aid magazine" for those near misses when fence building.
  18. Yeah you definitely scored with that piece, Lani. I paid almost that much for my Sharkie 300 (no-T) and it's almost all original and complete, but stops counting time even though the seconds hand is moving. So it's off to Ziggy's Spa for some R&R. He said something about steaks and cannons. I'm not sure I want to know what's going on over there... Or do I??!!
  19. Hint: do it the Nanuq way... use a couple of hockey pucks and a C-clamp. You can core out the pucks to match your case and crystal.
  20. Another thought... you might be able to use that bezel on a really nice franken 1675 project...
  21. But be careful doing this, as the injections have been known to discolor the surrounding tissues. You WILL gain mass in the large muscle groups, but it will be orange.
  22. Has anyone checked to see if they've repped this site yet? RRWG?
  23. HAaaaahahahahahaaaa!!! Oh man, this will be classic! I wonder if you can last more than a week? That's about the length of my tenure there. I think you should go with an approach about building a franken Sub 200 T-Graph using a 600T, drilling some new holes in the dial, fitting an A7750 and using JB Weld to attach an Invicta caseback. You can ask Granite, Pete or Simon about bezels... seems like I've seen posts from them about having spares. They're really some good guys. I have their private email addys if you'd like them... (A note regarding nomenclature, the 300T came after the 300, so the very first models are called the "no-T" or "pre-T" versions. What you've got there is a fine Sub 300 "pre-T" Pro. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrry nice.)
  24. It's not hard to change a crystal. But first it has to want to change...
