  1. If you want strength with superglue, there's a trick. Say you have a plastic motorcycle sidecover and the mounting post breaks off because it's -30F. Now mind you this is purely hypothetical. How to glue that post back onto the sidecover? 1) A drop of superglue on the mating surfaces and press the post in place. 2) Drip superglue down the sides of the post, wetting it down to and across the new seam. 3) Sprinkle baking soda on the wet surface. It will stick and turn into translucent concrete. 4) Wet it some more and add more baking soda, building up a nice thick base around the post. 5) Drip superglue onto the baking soda buildup and let it soak in. 6) Repeat until it's thick and strong enough.
  2. Lani continually amazes me. The man is worth his weight in poi.
  3. If you go here it explains how the sales side of the forum works. I'd say you'll sell those pieces in a heartbeat for that price. It will be well worth it for you to upgrade if you want to offload them that quickly. I'd personally snap up that red Sub if I had room for another...
  4. Trailboss, you're right it does need to run. He built a set of tracks, a garage and a turntable on his property. And this isn't the only piece he built, I have photos of my brother next to a coal burning steam locomotive and coal car that Mac built, and he's taller than the stack. Just lovely work.
  5. This ought to make a few desktops happy, I've never posted the full resolution scan of this one. Enjoy!
  6. Ralph McAllister built an amazing train set in the 50s and 60s in Boulder, Colorado. Mac's work was absolutely unsurpassed, and I've found a site where his hand built Mallet 4-8-8-4 is for sale. It's a "large" scale, and at 32' long and 18,800 lbs it's a velvet hammer. I'm taller than the stacks at the front. It's a Michaelangelo wrought in iron, if there ever was such a thing. Every piece was made by hand. I think his "train set" should be in a museum somewhere. So who's got an extra $100,000 to make it happen? Mac's Mallet 4-8-8-4 Rest in Peace, Mac.
  7. It's slow in here because I haven't posted these in awhile...
  8. Why do you have to cut a tree down before you can cut it up?
  9. "Declension" -- v.: What de bum be doin' on de seat on de plane when de pilot be flyin' too low de water, mon.
  10. Yes, Freddy I've seen yours many times... she's a keeper for sure. The 3rd photo, the grainy one, you can almost hear the voice "Bond, JAMES Bond." Dluddy, you have GOT to put up a warning before you post that 2nd photo. You have no idea how many times I've fallen out of my chair clutching my chest. Good LORD. I'd give Ken's left nut for that watch.
  11. Sign me up for about a ZILLION of them!
  12. Freddy, that thing is gorgeous! Wow........
  13. Thanks! Great reference material!
  14. Here's a couple... Here's my special datewheel...
  15. Sweet! That's the McNeil River falls. You can stand 20 feet from the bears and they'll tolerate you as long as you don't mess with their fishin'. Great photos! Here's a fatty for you...
  16. Along a similar note, every cell in our bodies is replaced every 7 years. So I'm a rep of myself! http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_often_are_brain_cells_replaced
  17. I saw an ad on Ebay, it was for George Washington's axe, the very same one he used to cut down the cherry tree! The ad stated that it's had the handle replaced 3 times, and the head replaced after the original rusted away. But it's THE SAME AXE!
  18. Let me think... Top Ten things the President should be focusing on right now... scanning the list, hmmmmmm, nope. I don't see "Lobby for Chicago Olympics" in my Top Ten.
  19. Feast your eyes on the IrishStar! Is this a counterfeit? Not according to the SFWIBB.
  20. Let's extend the analogy: take your father's Deuce Coupe with the flathead Ford v8 and replace the engine with a small block Chevy (a travesty, I know). Is it still a Deuce Coupe? Let's consider other brands... on the Doxa forum you see people all the time who have repainted dials green, or applied logos, or changed out bezels, or replaced hands sets. In their eyes those are still Doxas. If you tried any of this on VRF, even the smallest detail changed from "factory delivered", you'd be called out.
  21. Amen, brother. That's living out loud... not in shades of grey.
  22. Here goes, friend. This was a GREAT adventure.
  23. I'll tell ya what, there is nothing like standing on a knoll surrounded by the wilderness as far as you can see in every direction, and knowing that you are ... alone. Completely, totally, utterly alone. The only sign of life is a thin trail along a cirque, and it's so quiet it makes your ears hurt. Life in Alaska.
