  1. Hopig to hear good news from Pizzanoo...?
  2. Heck, I just wear my watches and in a month the pearls are gone. No idea how or why.
  3. You're just gonna let it slip out like that? "With two (yawn) I'm only 3 away"??? Good Lord, man ... you've got one and I've been biting my lip ever since Granite sold that one to you! Man I'd like to see you snag this beastie. There is a small market for vintage Doxa right now, but they're so iconic I can't see them going anywhere but straight up... I've bought every Sub 300 that comes along. I think those very first ones are going to be where the action is. Then the oddities like the Conq or your TGPro. Go for it!
  4. I used a compound called Flitz, it's a mild paste abrasive. I worked it into the links with my thumbs and over the endlinks. It leaves a black residue that repeated applications then remove. Keep polishing and checking your work until you get the finish you want!
  5. I verified from the seller it has the correct lug engravings too.
  6. Very nice! Throw in a "Soxa" dial and hands and Robert's yer uncle.
  7. So that leaves it up to you C_M your checkbook's gotta take one for the team. Sic 'em! You know you want it.....
  8. I mentioned the other day how TJGladeRaider had so generously sent me a riveted folded oyster bracelet for my 1964 GMT. Well, a picture is worth 1,000 words... so here she is. The bracelet was still new and brushed, so I "aged" it a little to match the finish on my case. I like how it came out!
  9. Yeah it's gotten crazy high. Dang! But bear in mind there are lots of vintage pieces out there whose values are going to follow the BL up. Some, like this piece and the Conquistador, are crazy rare with crazy prices. But a rising tide lifts all boats, so keep an eye on Sub 300T models too. $4,000 Sub 300s are going to do things to Sub 300Ts and it won't be long before the prices we're seeing today will be "bargains" that we should have bought. Sub 300T Synchron Sub 300T Searambler
  10. I hated that case design for years. But being a vintage watch nutjob, I kept finding more and more pieces from that era that were similar. And the more I thought about it, the more I realized they're really not THAT bad. I was being inexorably drawn to the Dark Side of the cushion case galaxy. I'll tell ya, once you try one on, you'll be amazed. My Doxas get the majority of my wrist time now.
  11. Gratulerer med dagen, KB!! TwoTone and I hoisted a frothy one tonight in a quaint little restaurant in Eagle River, we'll say it was in your honor! You're a gentleman and a scholar, and I couldn't be more proud that I can say "hey I know that guy!!"
  12. Hey, you were honored to be invited to their soire' and that's plenty cool in my book. It looks like they had an awesome time. So that's not you on the foredeck? Hmmmmmm. Must be Ken, then.
  13. Hmmmm, perhaps not. You're not the guy suntanning on the foredeck of the yacht?
  14. Outstanding!! I think I found you in the photos. What a great time they had. That was *really* nice.
  15. Thanks Pugs! I'm already pushing her toward a career in something "artsy". She's working as a barista now and loves it. She gets to bring in an iPod to play in the store with any kind of playlist she wants, and the owners let her put up art shows on the walls. I tell her that no matter what the economic climate, people will pay through the nose to be entertained and to look good. So sell them art! Now she and Young Mister Nanuq, yon Eagle Scout, are working together doing wedding photography, and doing quite well. We're surrounded by opportunity, folks. It just takes eyes wide open and some elbow grease to make a go of life.
  16. My daughter has got VERY into photography, and her skills are improving exponentially. Check these out!
  17. Ah, you think so? You do NOT want to know what I paid for mine.
  18. WOW was I wrong about the price! $2,800 and 3 days to go. I'm tellin' ya guys, some of these iconic smaller watch makers are positioned where Rolex was 30 years ago. How many Daytona 6263s would you buy right now, NOS, for $375? That's where they were in 1976. That's where Doxa is right now, or at least a couple years ago. It'll be curious to see how high this rascal goes! Almost any Sub 300 (no-T) will be expensive now, but the BL is a notch above.
  19. Isn't it interesting how we name our toys after women? The "Pussy Galore" GMT, the "Sophia Loren" GMT, "Ginger" my Guild D70. Some other things are named differently, like "The Antichrist" Rover from The Gods Must Be Crazy.
  20. "Keep it in the family"? Ohhhhhhh??? Do tell! Is there something you want to tell us sir?
  21. Although I almost never say this, I think her crowns are too large. For it to be a 6542, of course. THAT'S what I mean to say.
  22. Fred Machetanz is one of the most famous Alaskan artists. My favorite work of his is "Face to Face" and you can see it as my avatar. This print typically goes for $2000 and up, I've seen it for $3500. Right now there's one for sale BIN on the 'Bay for $750. It's at a storefront shop here in town and if anyone needs verification that it's in perfect condition, I'll be happy to go take a look. This is a flippin' SCREAMING deal. Buy it and triple your money in a year. Why don't I buy it? I already commissioned someone to make me one in oil paints because I couldn't afford the print! Face to Face
  23. Here's a couple iPhone photos in natural light. Sorry for the shaky images.
  24. There are some apps now that let you zoom, and one that uses the accelerometer so it waits till you're still enough to take the shot. Not too bad, but yeah ... it takes lousy photos. I took this one with the iPhone, it was blowing a gale and still it came out okay.
