  1. I have a gen tropic 18 and a gen tropic 16 superdome. I tried to make the 16 fit my 6536 (boy did I try) but it simply would not. Pity, because it has a much nicer dome than the 18 now mounted. Which means, I have a very rare and very expensive tropic 16 I'm not going to use. If anyone's interested...
  2. Well, what model watch is this? Given that rehaut diameter you're still looking at potentially several crystal geometries. Like, is it supposed to have a cyclops? Or is it a domed or superdomed model? I've seen a domed crystal mounted to a 1675 and it looked great but it wasn't the original spec.
  3. Whoa, forget the insert, tell me about that Rolex pressure vessel in the background!
  4. Hey if you're like me with the attention span of a gnat, even overnight is long term. FADE BABY FADE!!!!
  5. I just made the strongest possible sea salt solution from boiling water and dissolving as much salt as I could. I soaked and swirled the insert for one hour with no change. I even tried some abrasion with my fingers.... No effect. I'll let it soak all night tonight and see what happens.
  6. This all makes good sense, and I can see how the blue just won't go away now. Maybe I'll do some soaking in STRONG salt water solutions and strong UV and see what happens? If I get lucky, maybe I've started the fade process enough now that the remaining tint is weak enough to be quickly affected? Who knows... there's little to be lost in trial and (gulp) error.
  7. Thanks Ubi, do you have a trick for removing some blue-ness without fading it any further? I'm liking how it looks now, but would rather have more of a slate tone.
  8. Ah, let me clarify... The bleaching was only for the insert. The dial has stayed beneath its tropic-39 oven in the sun and has zero lume ability.
  9. True, but remember too that I've had this in the sun for 13 years already. I wonder if I finally got it baked enough to turn? The color of the insert is just a little too blue for my eye, I'd like to grey it up. Any ideas? That was LOTS of time in bleach. Like a total of an hour and 55 minutes so far.
  10. Here we go, I just took this and managed to get it from my iPhone to my server at home. Are my eyes deceiving me? I've never heard of an MBW going tropical?
  11. TOO FLIPPIN COOL!!! I hope they rethink the math on their logo where it shows 500m/1500m. I vote Orsa as THE maker of the world's coolest casebacks. C'mon Pugs give us a shot of your caseback next to the Sea Viper back.
  12. I've discovered that liberal doses of cerveza applied systemically help ease the anguish. I think I'll survive now!
  13. Hey Lani, that TGPro photo was awesome!
  14. Hours and hours and HOURS in ungodly hot car windows and the sort. Followed by many dips in the chlorine-rich pool. Bear in mind this is an ooooollllld MBW, ca. 13 years ago. Did Maria use different paint then? Who knows...
  15. Ix-nay Uster-Bay!! Don't tell Dirk what happened to his book!! He still thinks Miss Understood has it...
  16. I've been in freakishly hot Okla-stinkin-homa for a week now and the temps are killing me! How do you people live like this?! Thoughts of ice cubes flood my mind as I swelter beneath the unyielding rays in this Godforsaken place. But today I noticed something. I've been messing with ageing my DRSD MBW insert (what else is there to do here besides break things?) and part of my technique has been to bake the living hell out of the watch in sunny places to get as much UV as possible. Today my lying eyes told me that not only is my insert going steel blue faded, but the dial has begun to take on a chocolate tint while the markers and text are staying ivory and white. Is it the heat driving me slowly insane? Not having a camera here I can't post photos and I can't find a shrink that's not also a Bingo caller so I cannot know for sure. But I'll have my camera again in a few weeks when I get home and I'll post photos then. If I live through this Midwestern purgatory.
  17. Boy, some photos would help here. A refinished dial will really diminish its value but you can find a replacement unmolested dial for $500 or less. You can also have a new one printed on your blank for not too much from a very VERY good dial guy. It will still be refinished but nearly indistinguishable from the original. Do you even care about this? Is it an investment to be resold later? Or a keeper? Does it quickset? Meaning does it have the correct movement? Is it head only or does it come with a gen bracelet? Does it have any provenance from the AD to vouch for its history? It should have a plexi crystal and matte dial... are these present? If all these check out I'd say you have a good deal there! Photos please?
  18. All right!! I'm glad you got it, big guy. Now let's see a picture of your TG-Pro on its own page, in all its orange glory! PS: we had a bit of a poetry/limerick competition going on to figure what to write in the card. In the end Omni said it best. You do NOT want to see some of the entries!
  19. Yeah she went for $3,250 or something like that. Up, up and up... I see this brand going where Rolex did 30 years ago, tho I doubt it will achieve quite the same level of insanity in its prices.
  20. I was cruising another (cough) watch forum, from which I have been BANNED for being unruly, and there lies the 5th BL. Now we know where she went. Abandon Hope All Ye Who Click Here
  21. Oh, yes that's nice. VERY nice. One of the iconic pieces. Except they spelled it "Speednaster" on the back. Made ya look!
  22. Years ago I worked in Seattle and the ever delectable Ms. Nanuq brought the kids to town one evening to meet me after work. It was Christmastime and it was gorgeous out, with twinkly lights everywhere. We were walking down to the ferry for the ride home and I heard an echo of a French horn on the bricks. I stopped to try to figure out where the sound was coming from. The kids joined me and we started walking alleys and going around corners looking for the source. Suddenly we found them, 3 guys with a French horn, a baritone and a trombone. They were playing the dance of the sugar plum fairies and I just stood there smiling with my mouth hanging open. The kids were enthralled... The guys were amazing. We stood there in the falling snow listening and cheering madly after every song, having as much fun as the musicians. I don't think anyone else stopped, and it was their loss! I found out later the Canadian Brass were in town for a Christmas concert and that was 3 of them just out for fun in the snow. It made a big impact on my kids, which lasts to this day; they both love classical music. And it's all in thanks to those 3 gentleman. Thanks lads!
