  1. EXCELLENT news!!! Outstanding!! Now we'll just put our heads together and find you a bezel. Congrats, big guy!
  2. Ahhh, yes that's true. The weird part in my case is, all 3 hands were painted silver. I had Ziggy take the paint off my minutes and hours hands, and leave the seconds hand silver.
  3. Not so fast, Pugs. Dems is still my hero because he can prove 64 equals 65.
  4. I can go one weirder than that, my 6536 is gilt with gold hands but they were painted silver.

Wow, Cornerstone I like your potential boat TWICE as much as the one Dems is drooling over!

I know it's possible to get your Beat off when you have an unbalanced assembly.
  7. You say there's lots of spare bezels in Oz??? Hmmmmmmmm, I could use another SUB300... seeing as how they're THE most gorgeous Doxa out there! If one of you fine lads wins this, you'll want to join up on the SFWIBB (Site From Which I've Been Banned) and do some digging. Someone in the last year or so posted about trying to fit one of their many Doxa bezels to a vintage SUB, with no luck. I bet they'd gladly share what they know about bezels with you. You see, the lads that live over there are really nice sorts, it's just the mods and Admin that have their heads up their a$$. Granite and Pete are very helpful in particular.
  8. I ran across a very cool little article from Pete's book, all about Doxa bezels... Doxa bezels
  9. Well, that will cover the end of his nose. I checked and NOBODY makes a cup that big.

I'll go as high as $20 mostly because they're such low-mileage nuts. I mean, they have YEARS of life left in them! Dems, you poor, poor man. I can't imagine the agony you're suffering. A cold shower might help.

Panda: eats shoots and leaves. Okay, a physicist a mathematician and a biologist are sitting at a sidewalk cafe. Across the street they watch a couple go into a building. Awhile later, the couple comes back out with another person. The physicist says "They obviously encountered a parallel universe within the building, and brought out an inhabitant thereof". The biologist scoffs and says "No, you fool they simply reproduced and there is their offspring". The mathematician thinks for awhile and says "You know, if one more person entered that building, it would be empty".

Guys, you don't get it ... we have a board member here in crisis! We've got to do something to save the poor guy! Where's Miss Understood when we need her? Though, I suppose Ken in his ruby slippers is the next best thing...
  15. Yeah that Sub 300 is a beauty, and complete in every aspect except the bezel. And Doxa was just as weird as Rolex back then, they apparently used parts randomly from every bin they could reach as they assembled the watches. I talked to one guy who'd been trying to find a bezel and he had 3 different ones from his specific vintage, and none of them fit! So definitely buy it, and keep the fingers crossed for a bezel. I bet if one comes along and it's not *quite* right we can still figure something out. We got Freddy's 6542 GMT figured out, so a Doxa 300 should be easy. (touch wood)
  16. Wooo! A 300T will be nice. Lani, there's a Sub 300 on the 'Bay right now. See my previous thread about its one big issue....
  17. Definitely vintage. Get the watch from back when Doxa was a Swiss maker and did it the right way. Now they're mass produced Chinese watches and aren't worth near the asking prices. They want to trade on the cachet of the Doxa name, but are no better than an Invicta, IMNSHO. If you want to use it for diving, go with the 5000. It's pretty tough and if it floods and you break it, no big loss. But if you want it because it's gorgeous and has the Sixties Jacques Cousteau cachet, find a Sub 300, Sharkie or Pro. I guarantee that's one you'll never sell again. And it's worth the chase.
  18. Great questions, TT. There are no roads up there. None. It should be well frozen by then, so if we're lucky it might be hard ice riding across the tundra from pond to pond. But if it snows and drifts then it could be slogging through waist deep snow. One thing's for sure, it will be an adventure!
  19. Bah, it's only 200 miles! Piece-o-cake. Now will someone please chip the ice off my eyelids so I can blink?
  20. You're kidding, right? This is about the conditions you can expect: dark, cold and windy.
  21. These are 4" Endomorphs on Large Marge rims with Surly 2.7" tubes. You air them down for conditions, and about 8 lbs of pressure is right for really deep snow.
  22. In these events they always say the rider should expect no rescue. So if you get hurt, you're on your own. P4GTR, this is how you prepare for that cold weather...
  23. For anyone interested there's a Solstice mtn bike race planned this December, the weekend of the 19th - 20th. It will take you about 200 miles cross country from scenic Bethel (cough) through Atmautluak, Nunapitchuk, Kasigluk, Napakiak, Napaskiak, Oscarville, Akiachuk, Akiak, Kwethluk and back to Bethel. Expect temps well below zero. Check out the map!
  24. I wouldn't get too concerned yet. The 2nd time I sent my 6536 to Ziggy it went into the Black Hole of Canadian Post and disappeared. You want to talk about stressed out? It was months later when it came back in its opened, original packaging, with a note from Canadian Customs about "counterfeit goods". So I repackaged it, paid another arm-and-a-leg and sent it registered again, and it arrived in like 10 days. I tend to agree with Agrippa, though his supposition that it travels the final leg in a Tatra lorry might be optimistic. I'd rather guess it goes with a Series I Land Rover.
  25. Remember their English is very broken so keep communications very simple. I've been talking to the technician that's involved in design and it's obvious he's sharp as a tack, and his language skills are much better than the average guys responding to email. But still I keep it really simple and low-key. No worries.
