Did you know they make carbide tipped chainsaw chains now? Like a knife through hot stainless steel... er, butter.
Great photos! That table full of high end watches looks pretty darn spectacular.
Michael can get inserts like the one on the right. It's dead-on accurate but lacks the "pointy four." If you're looking for square fonts then Michael's your man. While you're at it see if he has a good rounded fonts pointy-four insert too?
It's not so much the brand, it's people attempting to make a *complete* watch. Those blasted bezels pop off when you just look at them crosseyed.
Consider this: Joe Schmoe has spent years reworking a vintage auto and it's perfect and immaculate... except for a front bumper. Without the bumper, the car is not so desireable. So when the right bumper comes along, Joe's gonna pay out the nose for it. Presto, the car is complete and VERY desireable. The price of the bumper increases the overall value by maybe 30 or 40%
It certainly is a fine crystal. There's a way to tell visually that it's not gen but remembering the state of the art even 2 years ago, it's a beautiful piece.
Remember you couldn't even GET a 1665 or 1680 a few years back...
Now if only there was a super voluptuous dome like that for a "Bond" Sub...
Who remembers the original Scotty? He had the inside source to Maria and I got my very old/very abused MBW from him about 10 years ago. Then I bought a *miserable* 6541 for way too much money and he promptly disappeared.
It's definitely got problems. Case is wrong, lugs are too thick and crown guards are wrong. The cyclops mag is too weak and the dial is completely wrong. As By-Tor pointed out the GMT hand is wrong too, but curiously the "red" is right. Maybe it's a gen GMT hand against a bad background and that makes its geometry look wrong?
For comparison:
Wow, I go for a bike ride in the snow and mud, come home and there's all this interest! Keep up the good ideas!
So how much for the Canadian "genuine" bezel, eh?
And so I ask... WHY ISN'T ANYONE MAKING AFTERMARKET PIECES OUT OF PLATED BRASS?
Michael Young has lovely steel bezels for a song. Why not "aged" plated brass?
C'mon... make a mold with a centrifuge, melt some brass, pour it, pop it out, work it over... presto.
Four thooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuusand dollars. You'd think someone would jump at this.
Here's what Ziggy can do with a rough/stock MY bezel... very pretty but no "brass" showing.
Who here knows how to work brass and then plate it?
I bet this bezel goes for $1,000 before the bidding is over. I'm tempted to buy it, have someone here make me
a few *cough* copies and then sell it again.
6536 bezel
A real bezel is about $1,000 and the one he's got is pretty nice... tho obviously aftermarket. Ditto the insert, crown, etc. The dial is hopeless, but for not a lot more, and some serious time with a grinder... you're there.
Heck, I should grab it for the movement alone. Parts are impossible to find now!
Who wants to build a "Bond" Sub? A guy's selling a franken on the 'Bay:
Franken
Another guy's selling a pretty nasty dial:
Le Dial
Put 'em in an early Paul's Red Sub case, grind off the crown guards (a' la XRT) and presto.
Ahhhhhhh, a smart son-in-law you are. The Force is strong with this one.
How about a special dinner out, just the two of you? Or you and your wife, and he and his? Wear the watch when you go.
