  1. So, what is the technique for aging a new pearl to look like an old gnarly pearl?
  2. I've got an iPhone and haven't managed to break it. I won't go to the new v2.0 because the only thing missing in mine is GPS and you KNOW that's coming. It does "locate me" already on Google Maps and that's nice. Except in the backcountry... where there's nothing to triangulate with. Plus, as stated, an iPhone is a toy, not a tool. Bring tools to the woods and toys to the city. Real GPS is your friend in the backcountry.
  3. It's a funny thing, the Tudor Snowflake bug has bit me hard in the last month too. Wonder how that works? It's a spectacular piece, R! Well done!

    $31,800 Sub

Hmmmm... I've never seen one with SUBMARINER in anything but gold on a gilt dial. It should be silver 100m over gold SUBMARINER. Or, as you said, red depth rating over gold SUB.

    $31,800 Sub

Wow you guys are good. Mine's a 1958 and has the SWISS dial... radium. The kicker is the colors used for "100m - 330ft" and "Submariner" Here's mine:

    Keep trying... even more obvious.

    $31,800 Sub

Keep 'em coming! What's the thing that caught my eye first and, IMO, disqualifies the whole piece?

    $31,800 Sub

Good, good... except for the T18 reference. What's even more obvious than all this...?
  9. Okay gents, what do I see wrong with this beauty? Vintage Ebay Sub
  10. Welcome back Kasi! It's nice to have some of the old flavor back.

I've seen them... Save your money. If you want a good no-CG Sub, you'll have to build one. My advice is to start with one of Paul's old vintage Subs with the thin case and grind off the CGs to start. It's sort of a Grail in the rep biz.
  12. Bring it home like Scotty did and have a big party downtown on the park strip. THEN fill it with ice cream and have a couple dozen friends over!
  13. @Doc. Exactly! The only good solution is a Paul's Red Sub or GMT case with CGs ground off, to get the thin profile. Then you start fitting pieces together. And then it's too big in diameter.
  14. <ignorance on> Okay, now I know zip about world economy and international everything... but what would happen if the USA.... closed ALL the foreign bases and brought all our troops home, put up borders and guards that MEAN something, stopped ALL foreign aid and spent the money on our own needs instead of the world's, spent our money at home and fixed our own health care, poured money into our own infrastructure instead of rebuilding the world, and increased our internal security forces so the criminal elements could finally be dealt with? Is that selfish and protectionist/isolationist? Or is it what one does when one is threatened with destruction? Would the world collapse into anarchy? What if millions die from something as simple as malaria? I guess my bottom line is, why are the USA taxpayers feeding, healing and policing the world, and being called on the carpet when something goes wrong? Is it our duty? Big brother/younger brother? Or are we sticking our nose in where it doesn't belong anyway? Mind you I'm ignorant of all these things. But if my family was suffering I'd sure rethink spending so much to help the local people in need until my own home was in order. That's all. </ignorance off>
  15. there are other political forces at work that I can't quite ferret out, for example we are PRIME for limitless geothermal here, the technology is developed and proven, so why isn't it up and running NOW? Don't say it's an energy cartel blockade b/c the big oil companies are piling tons of money into alternative energy sources (at least here in Alaska)
  16. toothpaste will polish it, or your shirtsleeve and rub HARD, or if it's really gouged scrape it flat with a knife and then repolish with toothpaste. Seriously. This is the beauty of plastic domes. I can go as high as 50,100 goats but no higher, you drive a HARD bargain!
  17. 35 degrees on my MTN bike this morning... Perfect conditions for a commute! Plus the animals dig it... I saw a bear AND a moose!
  18. the truly sad part is, we have TONS of proven finds and yet we can't drill for it, we can't build a new refinery, we can't build clean nuclear reactors... The greenies have us totally hamstrung, so we're at the mercy of OPEC. That is what stinks.
  19. Hey now, I saw it first! I'll trade a lovely VINTAGE MBW DRSD with the gen working helium valve and gen SUPERDOME tropic 39 (worth literally tens of thousands of goats) and a gen Orsa Monstrum dive watch with huuuuuuge domed sapphire crystal, AND a FIRST-EDITION honest to goodness DW 6263 chrono (with good mystery movement) for it! The DW is about the 5th one he produced and imported to our verdant shores. That's a lotta watch history right there my friend. Interested??
  20. I guess it would have to be the one in front. Every time I wear it I think "I do not deserve to have this on my wrist."
  21. XRT's Milgauss walks on water and rumors are it can divide by zero. It's truly amazing.
  22. ...and hence the reason I got rid of my MBW. The case is waaaaay too thick.
  23. Please tell me you're not serious?! The beauty of vintage watches lies in their domed acrylic crystals. I know they get scratched, but... they are easily buffed out. The attachment method for fitting a domed acrylic is completely different than fitting a press-in sapphire... I don't think there's a good solution for you there. Unless... you sell the lovely old Tudor to somebody here on the board...
  24. What's this? Do tell? Let's see some photos of these elusive beasties!
