  1. This is exactly why one always enters the backwoods with a slower hiking companion. Rule number 3: You need not outrun the bear, you only need to outrun your buddy.
  2. Now THAT is a sight for sore eyes! Magnificent. I'd say my top most-desireable watches would be a vintage Fifty Fathoms, a Doxa and a Kon-Tiki. Vintage rules!
  3. My watch is (was) shock proof but not flame resistant. How tough is a rep Submariner?
  4. And yet, scientists continue to attempt to model the climate, and extend valid predictons from their findings.
  5. So I see my little exploits have leaked out. They say "what happens in the arctic STAYS in the arctic" but apparently not this time! Notice how I have my glove off so I don't fumble the key? See those last two photos where he has his head down and neck out? That's where the bear started to get realllllly serious. First few, he was sniffing the wind to see what's up. They've got terrible eyesight but great noses.
  6. This is a fascinating concept. Read some of Benoit Mandelbrot's and Henri Poincare's work... nonlinear systems seem completely knowable and the math is ridiculously simple. And yet, a few iterations out, they are simply and maddeningly unpredictable. Not that they are hard to predict... they are impossible to predict. Amazing.
  7. Oh, oops... this is about watches we've already got? My bad. Here are my favorites in the order I picked them up.
  8. "Is that a caesium oscillator in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"
  9. Woo hoo! Mount a leather strap to that bad boy and you can wear it out to dinner. Suppose it goes better with tweed or denim?
  10. Yep... looks just like a flaw. Go figure!
  11. I suspect it's aftermarket. Look at my gen... see how the 6 cuts the red/blue divide? That's the tell.
  12. Oh, my... that's nice.
  13. Okay, who can beat this for the absolutely most drool-worthy watch photo?
  14. I use a sharp axe to remove my bezels But it's easy to miss on your first swing. Try, try again!
  15. I think I'll haul out the old beater again...
  16. My preference is toward Alaskan Mudhounds. It's a pretty rare breed... and getting rarer. Fricken' dog...
  17. I can say I'm pretty happy with how things have turned out for me. I'd still like to snatch up a 6542 someday, and one of those fine Snowflake Tudors!
  18. Congratulations!!! Now get him signed up for Boy Scouts and you'll have adventures to share for the rest of your life.
