  1. What makes you think they were ever sent? The whole point of "freebies" is to get your name and address to send you junk mail- NOT to give you free stuff.
  2. I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are plenty of religious zealots out there who, for some reason, feel that it's their mission in life to convert the unconverted but they're newsworthy because they're rare. That said, many Christians believe that it's a good thing to spread the word of the Lord and do it more for your benefit than for their own. If you're interested in hearing, great, if not, great. Of course, if he does end up asking you for a donation, just tell him to [censored] off.
  3. And the chronos were running. Everyone knows they're not jeweled the same as the rest of the movement and will cause the movement to prematurely wear out! Also, wtf kind of box is that???? LUDITES!
  4. Alton usually wears a GO Senator Navigator.
  5. Sounds like you were earning while learning except you learned a lot more than you earned.
  6. How will you know it's a lowball offer if you don't know what it's worth? Sounds like this is a problem for ebay completed auctions!java script:add_smilie(%22:help:%22,%22smid_100%22)
  7. I actually get your point- and it's an excellent one- It's actually the FAKE people who can afford the REAL watches. Mostly because they're willing to do things that honest people with morals aren't.
  8. I guess they're sick and tired of not being able to tell the difference. That aside, wtf kind of watch is that in the picture? from http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg...677#msg_4239318
  9. Believe me- I'm not trying to give you a hard time here but I've been in the same boat. I had the same question- it's so simple, why is it so hard to find a rep? The answer is that because it's so simple, there's nothing to distract you from the fact that it's a rep- i.e. crap. What makes a Patek a Patek is that they use the highest quality materials available and assemble the parts perfectly. Meanwhile, the proportions are PERFECT. Do you have any idea how hard it is to replicate perfection? It can't be done. I've searched for years for a good, simple dress watch. I ended up spending several thousand dollars on a gen (or two). There just aren't any good rep dress watches. Sorry dude- best bet is to tell your friend you were wrong- as hard as that is to do.
  10. Historically speaking, people who use archaic expressions like "nowadays" are going to complain about progress in any form.
  11. They change domains weekly. Check in their forums to get the latest urls. Josh's site is http://www.jpc8118.com/
  12. Of course it's possible. You just don't know how to do it.
  13. I have a bunch of gens and a bunch of reps. People who know me know I collect reps. When I'm wearing a new watch, they'll ask me, "real or fake?". Whichever my answer, they're amazed at what they see. I take great joy in sharing because the quality of the reps we've been getting are truly astounding. The people who claim to hate reps feel that way because it's gotten IMPOSSIBLE to spot them unless you know the list of flaws (wrong font, wrong spacing, wrong depth, etc). Even to experts, the watches we're getting look real. I'm not interested in fooling anyone or making a fool out of anyone. I'm here to have fun and enjoy the ride. If people I don't know well ask me if my watch is fake (a question at the height of rudeness akin to asking if your breasts are real), I answer with, "I can't tell anymore- reps have gotten so good". If they're someone I have absolutely no interest in, I respond with a "who cares?" or "how should I know?" as if their question is a complete waste of my time. I guess my favorite rep experience was way back in the late 80's. I was wearing a green glass (remember those) GMTII rep. I don't remember the details, but I can GUARANTEE it would be on par with what you would get on Canal Street these days (if you can find any Rolexes anymore). I probably paid $20 for it and got it from a guy with a suitcase near 57th & 5th. Anyway, I was sitting at the bar of my favorite hangout. It was a real dive bar and Rolexes were rare there. There I sat- minding my own business- and I could SWEAR I heard a guy down the bar grousing about my watch. "Nice ROWWWLEX... what's he doing in HERE with a ROWWWWLEX... and it's only an entry level ROWWWWLEX anyway". I just laughed to myself cuz wtf would he care in the first place- as if it was a personal affront directed at him. I let him stew in his own juices for a while an eventually, he piped up and asked me, "What are you doing in THIS place... with a ROWLEX" so I looked at him and told him it's a fake. He got all surly about it and asked, "Why the hell would you wear a fake ROWLEX?" So I said, "because it gets people who want one all [censored] off and surly". He said, "Ok fair enough" and laughed to himself and went on about his business.
  14. I ordered a DeepSea Sea-Dweller from Josh on Sunday and the watch arrived here (in NYC) yesterday (Wednesday). I think that might be a new record. Many of you know this is not my first rep. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=87818&hl= So consider the source of these comments. I'm not posting pics cuz as you can see from that other post, they come out crappy anyway. I'm a professional photographer but I've never been able to muster any interest in photographing watches so all I do are snapshots. Shoot me. Anyway, there are plenty of pics of this rep out there so you can get a good idea of what it looks like. Lanikai did an EXCELLENT review here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=88625 Lanikai did an excellent review and after studying the watch I received, I can say with authority that his review is accurate. I'd like to provide some additional thoughts. First of all, I bought this watch because I felt the need for a micro-adjustable bracelet. I was considering a few options- Glashutte Original diver (too expensive and too ugly), Seiko MarineMaster (still can't bring myself to spend $2k on a seiko but maybe one day), Seiko spring drive diver (I'd have to sell my sea-dweller to get this one and again, I'm not ready to trade something with proven value for something that may or may not be worth anything in a year or two). I also wanted a nice, hefty dive watch... I was considering a Seiko "Sumo" for around $400 or $500 but it doesn't have the micro-adjustable bracelet. I really didn't want to buy yet another rep but I realized that it was the obvious answer to get the deep sea. I broke down and ordered it this weekend and I couldn't be happier. The quality of the bracelet and case is outstanding. There are no sharp edges or unnecessary gaps or really anything wrong at all. Everything operates smoothly with no indication of scraping or "sandiness" I always seem to find to some level on every rep I've had (although it's getting rarer and rarer). Anyway, this watch has none of those characteristics- it's better than I would expect from a rep. By the way, this is the "best" asian ETA version which Josh sells for $258 at the time of this post. You can get the swiss ETA version for a bit more but I'm one of those people who thinks they're actually the same movement. Now, here's the best part for me. I've been on a quest for a watch with excellent night visibility. I've been actively searching for at least 5 years for a mechanical watch which can EASILY be read during the hours of 2am and 5am. For whatever reason, I wake up frequently during these hours and want to know the time. This was much more of an issue before I had Lasik surgery on my eyes because although I can now see the time on the cable box across the room, there was a time when the only time I could see was the time on my wrist. Out of the dozens of watches I've owned, there was only one mechanical watch which served this purpose- my IWC Doppelchronograph with tritium lumination. Everything I've had with luminova stopped glowing after a few hours. I was mostly disappointed by the gen Rolexes- maybe my expectations were too high- either way, none of them were worth a GD for this purpose. I found the best to be Seiko and Casio dive watches but for something really acceptable, I had a Smith and Wesson black quartz watch with tritium tubes or an Omega X-33 with both luminova and an indiglo-like backlight. Of all my "good" watches, the X-33 is by FAR the most legible and most useful watch I own and there's no close second place. Having said all that, this DSSD from Josh really surprised me this morning at 2:14am... I looked down at its dial to see the time, and there it was- plain as day. I don't know if it was actual glow or if it's just that the indices and hands are so big (if I were a betting man, I'd say it was the glow), but it was perfectly clear to read. I've typed way too much already but I have to express my feeling that this is the best rep ever for anyone who wants a good, functional watch. By the way and in other news, it's ugly as all hell. If it didn't function so well, it'd be gathering dust as we speak.
  15. NO offense intended here, but how about you do your own research, find out which watch appeals to you and then convince yourself to get it. I mean you want other people to do your reasoning for you and you won't tolerate any shortcuts (i.e. clicking on a poll). Seems kind of hypocritical, no?
  16. The same complaint is made about gen watches so I'll give you the same answer. If you don't think it's fair, vote with your wallet and don't buy them. That said, my fair and reasonable answer is that if you don't like the prices, find the same piece for less and see what you get. They cost what they do because people will pay what they cost to get the quality they want.
  17. I knew him as "Tanya Yoshii" when I found him on ioffer before I found this place.
  18. Spending money you don't have on anything you don't need is just a sign of immaturity. You'll outgrow it.
  19. I get a little tired of this nonsense. The people who frequent this site have an abundant selection of high quality dealers offering high quality reps at reasonable prices along with great speed and service. Shill posts like this are like advertising grocery store coupons at Cartier. People with less than 50 posts should be banned from posting. (I know- that would never work- but you get my drift).
  20. No, I don't. I also don't believe that gen ETA movements are really swiss either. I guess I'm echoing what blkm said earlier- just with less eloquence. (I didn't see his post until after mine registered).
  21. I guess LV subs are a dime a dozen but that's a particularly good looking example.
  22. [quote name='db1' date='Dec 28 2008, 01:53 PM' post='586649' fake or gen? you be the judge..
  23. I asked Eddie Lee about that one when he was still around and he told me that nobody was making or would be making that bracelet in Ti. That was about 5 years ago and I haven't seen one since.
