  1. 1. PT says that it has Swiss Unitas 6497 movement in it, I've read that this is good, can someone confirm - how long can I expect the watch to work for? -- I would expect that with proper care, this movement would outlive you. Seriously.

    2. How often should I need to service it, where can this be done? I guess there are some people on here that do it? -- Almost ANY watchmaker can service a Swiss 6497. They are pretty simple movements when compared to most others. The bigger issue is usually finding someone you trust to work on reps. Yes, there are people on this board that will do it, as well.

    3. I hear a lot about modifications - are there some that I should definitely have done - are these aethetics, or to make the watch function better? I don't want to spend

  2. Thanks for the information - the NOS 6497's are getting quite rare, the engraving "Seventeen 17 Jewels Swiss" doesn't exist on modern ETA's.

The other replies are useful, and the 089 looks amazing with the Simona!

Seeing as the "Seventeen 17 Jewels Swiss" is the same font and color as the "Hamilton" engraving, I'd bet it was part of Hamilton's decoration specs. ;)

  3. That strap does look very nice, could certainly be a contender! What's the movement in that rep, by the way? It has unusual engraving - more like the pre-ETA engravings on Pre-V models?

That movement was from a batch that vaccum got of NOS Hamilton 6497s. It's got Cotes de Geneve striping and "Hamilton" and some other text engraved on the bridges. Polished and beveled winding gears, etc. They are beautiful movements.

  4. ...I might be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere that he actually has the plans/drawings for the parts or could get them, but doesn't want to, because of the risk to get sued. Don't know for sure however.

I thought someone posted earlier in this thread that Jimmy just handed the gen parts over to the machine shop and they created the drawings, etc.? Thus, Jimmy doesn't have the drawings, they are property of the production house.

    Maybe I'm misrembering, though...

  5. Isn't it always just wonderful when a rich person gets a taste of his or her own stupidity?

Like the Porsche driver pulled over for speeding... no greater sight on the side of a highway than that!

That's a bit harsh, Corgi. I've got 2 gen PAMs, and I assure you, I am FAR from rich.

I agree, that it's tough to feel sorry for someone who got that drunk and brought this situation on themselves, but I don't take any pleasure in hearing that story, either.

  6. Bruce, can you post a profile shot like this one from Richard:

The old cases used thicker bezels with a double radius on the edge. You can see it really well where the crown is reflecting on the edge of the bezel. The newer/more incorrect bezels are thinner at the outer edge and lack the double radius....

  7. ...My biggest problem is when are they going to make an EOD with the seconds @ 12 so I can flip my gen? Besides, I'm sure you guys "got my back" if they ever do come to tar and feather me.

Rumor has it that particular new rep is coming soon, Jay. I won't hold my breath, but it is just a matter of time.

If the movement proves to be less of a timebomb than the seconds at 6 A7750, I'll be all over an MBW EOD with seconds at 12. ;)

  8. The OP logo is completely different. Cases are different, crowns are different, CGs are different.

Each one has their flaws. With DSN's recent (and not so recent) QC issues, it's a tough choice.
