  1. Whenever I see a 16710 now I regret selling mine. I had both gen and a fully modded rep. While I have always liked the watch visually it never got wrist time due to the colors popping too much for me sometimes and I had the really functional UN GMT complication that I liked a bit better from both practicality and WIS angles. That said, I wish I still had the Coke. Now I could justify it as a museum piece since it is so much more collectable as a discontinued item. I should get an NOS one if I could find it and just stare at it and photgraph it like I used to and forget my wristime rule. This would be the one exception as I never get tired of looking at them... Cheers!
  2. Congrats and welcome to the PO club. It is a good club to be in. Just a cool watch and very versatile when you start experimenting with some different straps, etc. One thing though, consider having Chief do double AR for you. It is the whole deal in this watch as I believe you and I have spoken about before. As you mention the flaws aren't even worth mentioning, but the AR is probably the only one. But even if that isn't a consideration, do it because it captures the true essence of the watch and gives it the richness that makes the blackness of the matte dial just pop off the wrist. Noone would notice the AR unless you know what it looks like with the AR or the watch is in the company of the gen and then it is very obvious. Night and day really. These two dials are the same shade of black believe it or not... Again, congrats and wear it well whether you decide to AR or not to AR!
  3. Yeah I saw that but forgot to post it. The Deep Two is just to massive at 46MM for my taste, and while I like the new standard AT range both chrono and non-chrono many hardcore fans of the brand are going to feel that IWC has (again) strayed from consistency in design and progression by not noticing when they have a signature item nailed that needs repeating. A couple more notes on that. Sorry IWC... One example is the bracelet and abandoning the design that might be the greatest and most comfortable ever as well as being completely unique. Now the bracelets are no different than any other brand including lesser ones. Another is not doing a Ti watch - another IWC signature. It is well know in WIS circles and otherwise that NOBODY executes Ti that IWC. They just dwarf the competition at it. Not holding that up is another example of how they are taking their eye off the ball. And the internal bezel. COME ON! What are they thinking. The single coolest thing done to dive watches since forever that was unique and they just abandon it. Huh? Speechless... Look, I think the watches look great but fact is fact. It is one thing to constantly change and evolve. But is is pretty much branding survival 101 that you must be awre of true achievements and repeat some of them to establish yourself as unique. These watches are all nice but if you took the logo off it is tougher to tell who made them. Could be an Oris or something. They could have done all the updates, new colors, polished center links, etc. and kept the braclet design, done a Ti watch, etc. I'll still probably buy one because they look cool, but I will never sell my Ti AT which is a signature piece for them and I love it. But I still stand by what I said in that IWC has a history of discontinuing stuff just as they get a following for it. Not to worry anyway, like the rest of the standard lines you probably won't be able to get one anyway. They suck at production, supply and demand awareness too...
  4. Man Lani that Blacksteel is really growing on me. I have always wanted to be cool enough to wear something kind of "tactical" lloking like that in a watch but the choices all sort of just made me look stupid (which isn't hard to do). This strikes me as maybe the solution to not being able to wear a PVD Panerai which I love to death until I put on. Just too military looking for my style. Plus the PAM case shape blends with my narrow head and slim body to make me look like Spongebob. Anyway, maybe this will be the first black watch I can like when I'm wearing it?
  5. Thanks guys. I really like it too more and more. Mostly love that the PO is so versatile - change the shoes and you have a new watch. And a good bonus is the comfort because it is a Sirtoli. Just the best in terms of that buttery soft, handstitched goodness and the prices are reasonable. I have a blue ostrich from them and two gators both padded and unpadded as well. Just can't beat them for quality for the money IMO... www.sirtoli.com A detail glimpse of the backing and stitch work which are on all the straps from them - these are from the blue ostrich...
  6. @dluddy - meant to ask you - do you have a seperate box for each brand? Seems like I always see different boxes depending on the category and you seem to separate them by brand as opposed to style/use. Just curious...
  7. ...and yes, imagine if Bush had said it - http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=2aa_1233697453
  8. Yeah, I hear ya. I bought the gen blind and it didn't grow on me quite enough to keep it for the same reasons. But it seems to be growing on me again - some things that is. I will definitely do the rep first on that one. But deep down I wish they would have just compromised - Keep the old case, upgrade with the ceramic bezel and a full brushed braclet with the solid center links and new clasp. For me, then the Sub would be perfect. Best of both worlds. I do like much of what they have done with the new style, but just not all of it - mostly the CG's. I also would prefer the smaller hour indices myself.
  9. Here is another few for Lani who can tell them to the posers at his gym: If at first you don't succeed...go back to Gold's. If at first you don't succeed...go back to Soloflex. If at first you don't succeed...go back to the bar where socializing makes more sense. And my personal favorite: If at first you don't succeed...take the Panerai off your wristband before you do your squats you poser.
  10. Man BT, the more I see the ceramic GMT the more I can't wait till the blk Sub version comes out on that case. I had this one for a while as well and loved it - just wasn't needing more GMT's at the time. But Rolex sure has made a watch case and bracelet that feel more high end than anything else prior in the sports line. And isn't that clasp great?
  11. Starting with something new on Friday. My experiment from yesterday - Planet Ocean on grey Sirtoli Sharkskin w/deployant...
  12. Yeah, the picture is of my gen Maxi Marine Diver. Glad you like it. The original UN Marine line is without a doubt the finest sports/dive watch in terms of fit, finish and lengthy brand history at any price. That is my opinion anyway after handling and owning virtually every thing else the it competes with over the years. The design is based on marine chronometers from the late 1800's and early 1900's when Un made virtually all the ships chronometers for merchant and military ships in the world. Read up on the brand history, you might find it interesting... http://www.luxemag.org/jewellery-watches/ulysse-nardin.html Anyway, that was kind of the whole point of the discussion in that the new additions to the Marine line don't seem to have the quality of the original. But anyway if you get hammered and you are not feeling too shy and got the urge to buy one, they retail for $7500. LOL... Although we hear a rep is in the pipeline and should be out soon, so you might not even have to get drunk to own one!
  13. Yes it is. I had a rep 42MM, then a UPO 45.5MM, then couldn't get a version I was happy with without serious mods so I bought the gen (which happens a lot lately with one excuse or another. LOL). Have had this one since 06' now I believe and have been very happy with it all around - especially the versatility of getting many watches in one with different shoes!
  14. +1 - sorry Spidey, but this is on the mark. A serious and expensive project. Probably cheaper to you to just have the whole watch redone right - hands & dial. Vacuum here in Florida does the best lume jobs I have ever had on my stuff, he is reasonable, quick, eager for biz, and no customs risk. You might give him a try.
  15. Another observation I forgot is that the wave pattern continued from the dial and the strap is a huge overkill. It is just really muddled up design-wise. UN was doing so well with riding the fence between fun, creative designs and going over the edge. I fear now that Ludwig O. has left, Rolf alone will tend to steer design too far to the left and blow the cred which took 10 years with Ludwig to develop into a design machine... .02
  16. OK saw this one and touched it in person. One of the first ones in the states and not even for sale yet. VERY similar to the chrono version with the same color scheme, but looks cheaper due to the wave dial. The jet black smooth dial of the chrono is much nicer. The Titnaium case doesn't go with the rest of the gold watch and seems out of place. Looks like steel but as I expected, the weight of the Ti just makes the watch feel cheap. You know, people go nuts over the rose and black look, but it always existed and in better fit and finished form than this or the chrono even. The regular MMD in rose either on bracelet or strap is great and pics don't do it justice - but way better really in every way. Or if you prefer a chrono - the non-diver chronos are just as nice. All these original Marine line watches are far superior to the two new ones if you like the black and gold look... I also like the gold and silver or gold and cream look a lot myself... So if you want quality - tell your dealer to tell the factory to rep these instead of the new ones. Trust me - the difference is night and day in the feel factor. No contest...
  17. If at first you don't suceed...It's someone else's fault. Find them. Blame them. Make them pay dearly.
  18. Nice combo...and you might say the watch looks plenty big on you. Holy wrist eclipse Batman!
  19. Just one Seamaster in my stable. Like three different watches with three different straps...
  20. Hey Andy - love that color gen Omega strap - thinking of getting one for my PO as I think the black/broen look great together. How much can I expect to pay for one of those? Big money new I'm sure. Looks great though...
  21. Bored today and digging through the strap box. Found a really, really, really nice grey Sirtoli shark skin with off white contrast stitch (matches C3 lume uncharged!) and spare deployant buckle. For those unfamiliar, Sirtoli stuff is handmade in Germany and are some of the best straps around. Anyway, I thought it might look good on the 42MM Planet Ocean for a change and I must say, it is really growing on me. Very thick and substantial and like most Sirtoli stuff is really soft and comfortable to wear. Just a couple quick and dirty pics - nothing fancy. What do you guys think?
  22. Many may have seen this already, but I find these fun so I thought I would post it. Amazing how one mans treasure is another's trash and how all of our tastes are so subjective. A fair review I think all around, although most of what he subtracted points for the PO for, I would be adding them. Like the AR being a dealbreaker for him, and for me it was literally one of three principle reasons I bought the watch for. LOL. Although I get that some that are hard on watches and don't baby them bum out on AR when it gets scratched. Me, it is unlikely to happen to because I am so cautious... http://rolexreferencepage.com/SDPO/sd%20vs%20po.html
  23. Been REALLY busy this week so I haven't been switching/playing with watches. This GMT is really growing on me. So comfortable I don't know it is there and time has been difficult to manage so I have kind of been an autowinder of sorts. Looks great too. Used to just wear it for travel now I can't take it off at home...
  24. Yeah, even the bezel construction is a step back - although it kind of is on the MMD Chrono as well compared to the original MMD. You can even see that in the pics without ever touching it. The machine and hand work is just not at the same level clearly. There just isn't anything in the line as lavish and substantial as the orignal 40MM and 42.7MM versions which are equal. And I don't know how much of that is really opinion having handled them all (except this new one of course). But the bezel, dial, subdials, and even the texture on the strap look REALLY costumeish and cheap in comparison. Plus I hate to say it but the light weight of the Ti will make it FEEL worse in addition to all that and ADD to the cheapness. Just go to an AD and handle the MMD like mine on a bracelet and you will be spoiled for any others...
  25. Just one at the moment really - a DJ... ...and one crossover watch that isn't really a dress watch. I am pretty picky about what I call a dress watch. Many people will just call anything on a strap without a rotating bezel a dress watch and I try not to do that. But this one does function as both sort of so why not... I have had some cool dress watch reps over the years as well so I'll post those too. An IWC FA Jones... ...and a Vacheron Malte Chronograph...
