  1. I hope they do it but I don't know. I'm trying and probably going to get the gen as soon as I can get one. Backordered until August on my last order. The piece is amazing in person BTW. Way nicer quality than the standard AT which I have a gen of also. Although the rubber strap is a little cheap looking - feels good though. I ordered a black croc from the platinum version for my steel version. I tried holding it up at the AD who had both and the croc looks great on that one too. All the more reason for China to figure out a good 2892 clone solution with some stock modules for moving stuff around, A decorated 2892 clone with a custom rotor wouldn't look half bad on the rep. A little peralge and the right rotor shape and it would be fine really. BTW, have you seen the new ones for 2009 in WG with grey dial and rose gold with silver dial? I like the steel myself with the greenish lume but FYI...
  2. Yeah and if you are ordering something else from your favorite dealer you can maybe have him send one with the other order.
  3. PS - how about a movement shot for us?
  4. You could be the new Jetmid if you play your cards right! Just don't let Jake ever hear that you have that or there is going to be trouble. But seriously, all kidding aside, that will be a kingly gift when you get it. I am happy for you. That is one serious watch my friend - and 29 is not too young for anything. I remember it was around there that I had my first serious watch and serious sports car myself. I only wish I could go back and do it again - not that I would do anything different - just for a repeat. Kind of like seeing a movie for the second time. Maybe it will get even better. Now which movie was it though...
  5. I thought your PO was more than done - super modded as I recall. And you have more than one? Do tell what is being done to them...
  6. Well your Seamasters certainly smell better than the rest of ours...
  7. Good catch. I didn't even think to look for that. But again, for movement reasons alone I doubt this will be the repped version. Such a comitment with the blue titanium anodizing and then you can't just use the movement in other versions, etc.
  8. I know funny huh Pho? It never stops... BTW, to all the readers, Josh did not, nor does he claim to have purhcased an MMD 1846 for replication - but the MMD Chrono was his. So now the question remains though. Which one of the dealers who claim to have bought the 1:1 alpha watch for the MMD is telling the truth? Someone lying in the replica world? Nah... I'm betting it isn't even the Limited Edition for some reason, but maybe that is a good thing. And regarding Hont - is that a new video? If so then what is the gen doing in one piece if it is being repped. Or is it done? Or maybe it isn't even happening at all and he just borrowed the watch for a day? Where is Columbo we need him...
  9. China is obsessed with the 7750. They would release a Patek Calatrava handwind with a 7750 and just take the rotor off if they thought they could sell a hundred of them. And no matter if the watch calls for it or not they will simulate flame bluing and paint every last screw in the movement on every watch as well...
  10. If that is the alpha rep for the 1:1 MMD I'm again baffled why that one. I mean nothing against limiteds but the expense of getting one compared to a base model and the specifics of the dial, strap, movement finish just seems kind of prohibitive in so many ways. Plus there are a bunch of people that just don't love blue enough. The watch is amazing in person and I have spent time with it. I would love to own and photograph it for kicks but I wouldn't wear it realistically. At least when they started doing limiteds with the blue theme many years ago they used to be on steel bracelets and that toned down the blue overkill a bit. The rubber bracelets really push the colors over the edge. Which reminds me, even the red/orange/yellow dials that many would never look at twice with the same color rubber look almost elegant on steel. I wasn't able to find anything but this but you get the idea. This is an older Limited Marine Aqua Perpetual piece in WG. Notice how much nicer it is on metal bracelet which makes the blue less of an assault and the overall look more elegant...
  11. I gotta vote for the Blacksteel as well. Plus not as fragile as PVD which is one sucky thing about PVD coatings. When you get the slightest scratch on PVD you can see it and it is there forever and a day...
  12. The closest thing you will find to an "expert" will be found here and on other watch forums, not usually at AD's if that is what you mean. Two answers to your question really - no and no again. First, there is no rep made that is going to fool someone intimately familiar with the Sub here or on gen forums with a close look at the watch. Second, no rep will fool anyone once the caseback comes off. So mo matter who is looking at it and in what regard the answer is no. That said, if you rephrase the question to something like asking whether our best reps can pass as gens on the wrist even if an "expert" was standing next to you the answer may very well be yes. At a body length distance the WM9, Noob, and I'm sure many other replications are indistinguishable from the gen... And to the OP, the answer is no to your question. The "perfect" Sub is not perfect and is not really in the running for being a "best" version at this point. At one time it probably was I suppose but not now. Read up on what the old schoolers like and you will find out which models are considered the best at the moment and what their flaws are - because they all have them. Happy hunting and BTW, we aren't being sarcastic when we say you have to read. You just do. The wealth of info here is staggering and once you get more involved you will see what we mean. There are just too many subjectives. But then again, search and read and you will find the best Sub for your criteria. It is here and it is amazing. But you just have to narrow it down to a few on your own and earn the knowledge so you have a better understanding of what this hobby is about. When you do, you will then also discover which flaws you personally can live with and which you can't. As and example sone if us (like me) are mental about date font position and magnification, etc., and other could care less about that and care more about bezel teeth shape. Others are wacky for dial print accuracy and others still want the bezel insert and pearl to be perfect. There is going to be something innacurate with all of them, but as you can see we can't help you as you have to learn and apply it to what you care about. Right now you don't even know probably what all those items differences are and what they even look like to you. See what we mean? So pull up a chair and welcome to the insanity of micro mechanics brother!
  13. More talk about Maxi Divers again in the Other Brands area prompts me to fly the colors this morning...
  14. I can't tell from the video but if it is a rep it would make sense as it is a 2006-2007 (not 2008) version of the limited edition (lead time I mean...). It is the Blue Surf Limited from Basel 2006They made it in two metals that year with 500 done in rose gold and 1846 being done is SS to celebrate the heritage. Usually they only do precious metals in these. So the rep would be accurate in that respect. Another thing to be happy for is that there will be future accurate MMD's since they used a 2892 variant of some sort. The limited editions all have the entire movement treated with a special blue titanium alloy which is applied with an ion sputtering process. The result is that all the bridges, plates, rotor, etc. are blue. I will check my sources to see if this is the lead out MMD, and in the meantime here is what the gen looks like...
  15. Thanks and what are the details on that movement? 18K? I had forgotten about the Grand Arkade since the Cabaret is so much more popular these days... Interersting how they did that really wide perlage and tried to do a 3/4 plate of sorts. Those crazy little Chinese! That AL sink is kind of neat huh? I must say I'm interested though and I would like to see one of these in person. Rectangular movements have always fascinated me. My girl is digging the standard sized version as well.
  16. FYI, folks were asking about the 2892 and here is an interesting slant on that. The gen PO is built on a 2892 ebauche with an in house escapement - the coaxial "big teeth" one that uses less lubrication and has a 10 year service interval. Because of that, the coxial escapement beats at 25.2K in the 2500c movement instead of 28.8 found in most ETA stock stuff and the 2500B found in other Omega's without the coax. This is for with production reasons, because at 28.8K, Omega can't use the larger balance wheel with that escapement. So in terms of sweep smoothness, ETA PO rep owners have a smoother sweeping watch than us gen owners.
  17. You don't see a rose plated Lange Cabaret-esq (kind of like that case) rep everyday. What does the movement look like Freddy?
  18. Put this on for a trip to do some errands Saturday...
  19. Yeah, I think ostrich would look great and nothing is more comfortable. I have a Sirtoli ostrich and it is just so soft. I would recommend them ordinarily for ostrich, but you will of course need a pure custom job for the GST lugs...
  20. Yeah call me later on Skype - I'll be around the office catching up on paperwork.
  21. @Golfman - guess that about solves the imperfect pearl issue huh? Love it!
  22. This is a Patek corporate video but I thought you might all enjoy it as it shows the making of a watch and movement kind of in steps with lots of CNC stuff and hand finishing alike. Cool video for any WIS and worth sitting through...
  23. Usually I would have swapped by now, by Saturday still gets the same. I can't take my OP watch off. 42MM PO on Sirtoli Shark...
  24. Simple - decide exactly what you want and have HK Tan (Aarron) make you a custom one. He simply has the best material and craftmanship at his prices that I have ever seen. I have maybe 4 or 5 pieces from him and they are all great!
  25. Just for clarification guys, the photo I posted is Wheaton's gen 45.5MM PO (not my gen 42MM) next to the UPO which has the best AR of all the PO's. So I posted the photo to show the difference that high qualitt double AR makes to the watch - NOT to point out other flaws which I think are of no consequence at this price. But the photo does really show how the super double AR is just night and day against the rep single AR. BTW rhack - the Skyland and Fish both have double AR from the factory which are quite good, but all the PO's have single AR which is quite a bit different. Of course both those are super reps though. I had the rep Fish and loved it so much I got the gen - then realized that the rep was the closest to any gen I had ever seen in any rep in terms of build quality especially... Anyway, enjoy the PO brother.
