Cool. The double adds character. One of the issues I always had with tourby's is the lack of creativity. Most companies IMO are charging $200K+ for a watch that effectively looks like a generic dialed watch with a cut out exposing a standard balance. Only upon close inspection does one even realize it is not a standard balance. The only exception that has blown me away has been the Breguet double with the rotating dial. Now THAT is a cool design... Regarding this one I am pleased that there is an alternative although the rose gold in this case is a little pukey IMO. I'll be on the look out for different versions and competitors extension of this theme...

Just a slight correction on this Noel. The DJ cases like my M series have thicker lugs just as you point out and appear to be larger although still 36MM. The DD never made that change though and those still have the more sloped sides to the case making them appear smaller to this day. But you are right, the DJ does wear larger these days with the new case. Actually, I think both The DJ and DD wear plenty large enough for long sleeves - but never short sleves IMO. It just isn't a sports watch and shouldn't be worn with short sleves unless by a girl IMO. If you notice, BT's review watch actually has the new style DJ case with the larger lugs which is actually incorrect. They probably should have stuck with the smaller case to be totally accurate. The other poster with the pink dialed DD has the older style case with the more sloping case and thinner lugs. The newer DJ case like my gen is more square shouldered like BT's review rep. Very subtle, but you do notice it on the wrist. Also of note, in person the Glacier Blue dial is much more subtle than in any picture including pics of gens. It is amzing and deep and mysterious and subtle in person. Just insanely nice IMO. I want one so bad lately and I'm having a really hard time resisting. Just the ultimate braceleted dress watch for me. Grail for sure. I wish the rep wasn't so turquoise colored as it is pretty innacurate, but the rep is more than fine otherwise as BT shows. I would recommend playing it safe if getting a DJ or DD rep and getting a white or rhodium dial like mine to be on the safe side. Anyway, here is my DJ on my 7 1/2" wrist. Surprising how large it looks for its size. And here is a frontal shot of my DJ along with a recent DD frontal so you can see how the cases differ slightly. Again, very subtle, but the difference really shows up on the wrist...

Nice Pug. Really Nice.

I'd stock up on SPAM maybe and fry it up to eat with eggs and rice for breakfast Hawaiian style. SPAM is disgusting but it always tastes good in Hawaii. Sorry, I guess I went off topic...
-
No doubt about that. They always did Ti right. Come to think of it, I still have a Ti rep - well not really but kind of...
-
Yeah, that is why I asked the question about the watch in the first place. I thought the GST was a great success - I had one (not as cool as Pug's, but hey...). And you are right about the AMG - I forgot about that one. And the points about the inner bezel not needing to be Ti are noted in this post - thanks. I guess it just must be a cost factor. Most likely they just can't get the price they used to on the material. Hey, this might be a good time for some nostalgia. Presenting the GST Ti. This is why we wish they did more Ti watches. They just executed it SO well...

Again, Jake please heed BT's warning. If I'm not worth your time why do you continue to post here off topic? I have evidence of my own BTW although I wish I didn't. Stuff like this is precicely why I am here alone and quit the other forums. It simply doesn't happen here and we won't stand for it. Anyway, please tell us something about the AT if you would. This is an educational thread and there have been some great posts here to that effect. Feel free to interact with us about the watch as we would love to learn more. You can play in our sandbox. We will always rise above and be friendly to all here at RWG - even to those who disagree or dislike us. That is the RWG difference. And I'm being serious. Bygones be bygones. I called a truce with you guys long ago and I think it is time you did the same brother.

First off Jake, who is "we"? You don't ever post here and moreover you are no party to this discussion. But I guess I have to smile and LOVE my fan club. So devoted. Lo-Cal Jake is the President. Gotta Love Jake. His signature on RG is "Real World Baby". Can you imagine? Dontcha mean "Rep World" there - um - Jake? More importantly is ANY mod here at the REAL forum gonna recongnize this for what it is and repremand this guy? I mean seriously, once again his contribution has exactly ZERO value to this thread. This is totally uncalled for. I'm sure we are above this stuff here, no?

Yeah, I never shut up. It is a joke with both my staff and my girl. I always have a lot to say that is for sure. You are funny Dan. I love you too. My biggest fan. I'm gonna make you rich Bud Fox, rich enough to afford a girl like Darryl Hannah...

Thanks. Just the access machine for monitoring the servers. Lots of monitors though that is for sure. Our servers are in Chicago which actually execute the trades. The discs...well...lets just say I used to be in the music biz once upon a time...

Yup. Always. Another day in my inner sanctum also known as NORAD or the war room to the staff...

Yeah, I forgot about Tourby. He built me a bespoke timepiece that is world class for under a grand. Just amazing and totally unique. Plenty of choices too. Here is mine with a rare enamel dial, flame blued hands, a SOPROD 6498 and bony croc strap. Fit and finsh is equal or better than any Swiss timepiece by a name manufactory...

I am not familiar. What is WM9 YM? I am aware of the Seagull 2892 clone though. They used it in the Aqua Terra rep also. I had on and it was nice. So they do use them just not that much and the 2824's and 2836's get the nod. The simple answer is probably that the fake ETA's are cheaper than they can buy real Seagulls for so they choose those. You may be right that the quality may have nothing to do with it and that is just and excuse for all dollars and cents...
-
I agree and I was surprised to hear that. I have had a few watches with the ST18 and the quality of the movement seemed fine to fine even under 10 power. I have also inspected their 7750 clone and that looks nice too - plus the hands will swap without broaching I believe so if reps had those 7750 transplants would be a piece of cake. Again, I was very surprised to hear anything negative about Seagull - quality wise...

Thank you. Everyone has to know by now that I try to share any info I can for the good of this community and I do so selflessly. RWG is a big part of my life. My days can be lonely as my job is essentially sitting and waiting for hours on end. This community itself is like an old friend to me and I cherish my time here. I don't think anyone can dispute my contribution to RWG over the years as I don't dispute its gifts to me. I only ask that my contributions be recognized as valuable in some and to be given the benefit of the doubt as to thier authenticty. When I post something like this the community has everything to gain and nothing to lose. It's just information. And any information from GZ is always questionable. I only ask that folks be sure to question the info - not my motivation for posting it. Regarding sources, I have two and I freely divulge them. One is my dealer. We all have our favorites and we all ask them to keep us in the loop regularly. The other is a rare find. He is a gifted C# programmer who is a Chinese national. I hired him to do a specific project for me. It turns out that he is into reps and actually has a family member somewhere down the line that works for one of the factories which I had no idea about when I hired him. There is kind of language barrier so I'm not sure in what capacity. You will all have a chance to pick his brain when he joins again. Maybe someone here that speaks Chinese can translate although his English is pretty good. He joined RWG for a short time but he did so from one of the two machines here in the office that I use for internet access. RWG has a strict policy about duplicate accounts. In fairness, there is no way to know whether it is the same person or not and as such theoretically someone could use a duplicate account to scam or otherwise do wrong. To that end I supported the policy so we agreed to have his account cancelled until he can log in from another computer and IP address in compliance with the no duplicate account rule. At the moment I have him in a hotel and as such he doesn't have a computer at home. He also is working basically around the clock with me here so he only goes to the hotel to sleep. But I am pretty sure he is going to accept my offer for permanent employment after his contract is up and if so he will of course get a permanent residence and obviously a computer at home. He intends to re-join then. I'm sure he will be a good resource for info on an ongoing basis and he is also REALLY funny, which is rare for a programmer to begin with - let alone a Chinese one who loves reps! His one fault as I see it as he really loves gangster rap music. But that is another thread. Anyway, I'm sure he will be able to share a lot of watch market stories and the like with you all when he becomes a member again. I'll let the membership know when he returns and introduce him to you. I would appreciate you all making him feel welcome. Really nice kid. Oh, and I'm certain the guy that answers his questions in China has no reason to lie. Especially since he is family... Anyway, I just wanted to let the naysayers know where some of this perfectly innocent info comes from and that there is no grassy knoll, no second shooter, and no smoking gun from RobbieG...

Thanks man. It is good to know that someone actually READ what I wrote. I appreciate that. I clearly am not the one "in the know" but rather one who ISN'T, which is why I made it clear that I asked a guy a third party what he thought and just wrote what he answered. God help me...

You know what Taka, you and I got a real problem. My contribution to this thread was no different than last time in the thread you are refering too. Why is everything I say taken so far out of context. Christ. I mean every post where I try to share anything valuable just has to get challenged. Un-friggin-real. Even my posts in the so called Jandrew thread were merely presenting another way of looking at something none of us could ever possibly understand - and admittedly myself included. I even made it clear I wasn't defending them and yet it persists. I don't even own a replica at the moment from any dealer nor do I have any vested interest in any of it. Just trying to look at all the angles an understand this interesting world we live in. And yet there, as here, I am perceived as taking a side of something. Look, EVERYONE who contributed to that thread as in this one seems content on taking some imaginary side, taking a "stand" as you call it and finding an absolute answer EXCEPT me. And regarding this thread...I mean, I own the gen of this piece for Christ sakes, what do I care about it except trying to help the membership and ask my guy questions to find out why this great watch hasn't been repped since it is a likely candidate? And this is what I get in return? Isn't it ironic that I am the one called out as grandstanding and being a know it all when I am only communicating what I heard and have no personal interest in it whatsoever. Everyone but me who has posted in this thread knows something specific about Titanium or construction or whatever EXCEPT me. Good for that. I know nothing about it and simply asked a Chinese guy close to the factories why he thinks they never repped it. Again, let me make this clear. The guy I know in GZ says this stuff - not me. Just sharing it as usual. And as usual sorry that I did. I'm sure you will be pleased to know that I have officially learned my lesson and will never communicate ANY ideas or info to this effect ever again. My posts will be limited to facts suitable for the knowledge base and/or my pictorials. Maybe you might like to PM me Taka and explain why it is you seem to have such a hard on for me lately... Regards,

Uhh...if he is already admitting the cost concerns I'm not sure why he would make up the part about the manufacturing issues to boot. What does he gian by lying there? It makes no sense.

Sorry, I dropped this post into the wrong section. Mods, please be so kind as to move it into the IWC board. Thanks...

Yes, clearly a rep. The pearl is the most obvious tell. There is also another easy tell that hasn't been discussed here that I know of. The applied numerals "black paint" on the edges is more pronounced and sloppy in comparison. It is the first thing I always notice when I look at one. Maybe the rep indices are taller than the gens? Not sure there...

My source in GZ confirmed the answer to this question that we have been kicking around. Apparently, there are two reasons. First, the construction of the inner rotating bezel in Ti is very tricky as compared to the Steel. The second is that Ti is EXTREMELY expensive in China for some reason right now. He has asked some makers about this and their answer is no-more titanium watches of any kind unless they are confident the demand will be so high to warrant the high materials cost. The Steel sell through was very good for this watch and that plus the Cousteau versions is evidence that many people who already have one of these may not want to double up and get the Ti version also. Makes sense to me now. Also on another note, I asked why no Seagull 2892 clone movements in many of these reps that have gens based on the 2892. My thought was that they should be very plentiful and inexpensive in China. I have always heard they are good movements. His answer was that the bulk 2892 batches have some quality issues and the makers don't have confidence in it as a result. He said something about the movement being thin? Maybe he is refering to some flimsyness in the construction? Bridge construction/thickness? I have no idea. Anyway, RobbieG reporting in on the AT and 2892. Hope this helps clarify a few things we have been discussing. My source has always been reliable with this sort of info but feel free to draw your own conclusions. Cheers,

I don't know how I missed this thread. I too love this watch. A true staple in the collection and always will be. The UPO is also a historic triumph in the rep world. I'm partial to the 42MM size though...
-
Yeah, I wish they would do a couple of them - including the original non-chrono Cousteau. And I wish they would do both of them with the Seagull 2892 clone which is correct for the piece (just not ETA like the gen). Still, they could even decorate the Seagull and the watch would look nearly perfect inside and out.

Anyone know the best source for great price on the OEM rubber for 42MM PO? I checked Otto but I am wondering if anyone knows of any better price than $192 around anywhere? I know there was a great rep strap made in the 22MM size. Did they ever make a 1st quality rep in the 20MM size for the 42MM watch? Anyway, I want a change of pace for my gen PO at the moment so I'm jonesing for some rubber shoes...
