Two for me in realtively recent times - one gen, one rep. First was the 45.5MM UPO. This was of course the best version of the Planet Ocean and it is a great rep. But I just felt the size was wrong and an afterthought for the brand. I got the gen 42MM and it is perfect, but as good as the rep is I wish I could have just done the lume and double AR as the rest of the rep is plenty good enough - just the wrong size. Next was the GMTIIC. I got the gen as I was impressed with the fit, finish and feel as compared with classic Rollie sports watches. Once I had it it stopped knocking me out almost immediately. Left me flat and I sold it. I still may get the IHS rep though which seems great and everyone raves about the quality - as long as you don't get the crappy movement. It is alot easier to love for <$300 than it is for 6K+...

Gonna give the Maxi Diver some attention this weekend...

It is clear from this review that they finally got the gold right. The older 14K plating always had that sort of "barky" orange hue to it. This is tough because Rolex's particular 18K mix (both yellow & pink actually) are just so special color-wise. They really stand out in the industry IMO. Rolex gold is just...Rolex gold. Pale and muted and creamy. You all know I am a big UN fan, but I always say how terrible their rose gold looks. I ordered a new diver chrono recently in rose and sent it back because I couldn't bear to look at it. Seriously. Anyway, I digress, but Rolex gold is just so special and if a rep can come close to capturing it I score big points for that. To me, no matter what the details accomplish, if a TT rep doesn't get that right it is all over. Nice to see some great looking plated gold...

Love my DJ at 36MM...

Yeah the Landa is OK, but I think the key is to get the stitching as white as possible to match the dial like you did. It makes all the difference...

Noobie needs help...Is this submariner real or rep?
RobbieG replied to a topic in General Discussion
Not for nothing, but did you ever consider just typing "Rolex Submariner Movement" into a search engine and finding a picture to compare it to? If you want to learn about Rolex watches and watches in general so you can get good at evaluating all your future replica purchases you kind of have to get good at doing sopme simple research. Just a suggestion to help you in the future. -
gotta get a dual-tone Aquaracer for the Mrs

I would suggest emailing or PM'ing one of the larger sellers listed here. All reps made can usually be sourced by these guys. Many times they are not listed or shown on thier websites but they can get them anyway. Send them a pic of the gen and ask. If it is pure crap, they will usually tell you if you ask in advance. They would rather not ship the watch and take your money than deal with QC issues/returns/whatever later. -

If you do buy it, PM me and I'll give you some money for the movement. That one is worthy of my museum. There is a local WIS collector I would love to show that to. Gotta love the Chinese. Almost looks like a 3135 - well not really - but the rotor kind of does - maybe for starters they could make the reversing wheel red instead of pink? Love it... -
You are now officially my favorite friend on the forum. You make my gut hurt from laughing. You are the best Daniel. I think we should talk about you moving down here and coming to work for us. I mean you are just up the coast anyway. I don't have anything you can do but I might consider putting you on the payroll just to hang around and break everyone's b*lls. But no, I don't wipe my ass with hundreds - I wish. My only issue with the rep is I have to do the 7750 as I have terrible luck with Asian movements and I will also want to do the lume as well. The hands will need to be broached on and that means The Zigmeister and customs issues, etc. So by the time I am done I will have what, a grand into the rep of the Skyland. It will be close to perfect of course. But then I think, my Fish plus fifteen hundred and I'll have the gen Skyland. I know the rep is close to perfect but a grand is a grand and my net outlay doesn't change much, plus the risks. Oh well, I'll decide what to do. Anyone have experience with the blue dial Skyland yet? Just wondering how the color looks as I have only seen the black and grey so far at AD's.
-
Thanks J. Do you have the blue dialed rep? Hard to tell at a lot of angles due to the AR on these. And yes, I would never own both. Breitlings other than Navis are all very similar to me. The only choice is chrono or non-chrono and then pick the one I like - at least for me. Sounds like I will be happier with the Skyland. I agree that it has a more interesting dial and a modern look to it.
-
I wouldn't say a Skyland would be a waste of money any more than the Fish. Gen Breits are simply the finest for the money IMO in their class hands down. Regardless, I don't usually consider finances when deciding on watch purchases, rep or gen. Prudent or not, that is just the way it is with me. Anyway, Are you a fan of the Fish or Skyland? Colors?
-
As many of you know I have a gen blue dialed Fish and I love it. I have been doing a lot of thinking about my collection and not trying to have a lot of duplication categorically lately. Here is my dilema. I feel like I need another true sport chrono as my Sinn doesn't really fit the bill and that leaves my Aquatimer. I also really need to haev at least one blue dial and that is filled of course by the Fish. I have really loved the Skyland for some time now and have considered both the gen and a 7750 transplant rep. Up until now I have been considering a black dialed Skyland, but I think I may have a way to kill two birds with one stone. I really love the blue dial of the Fish, but I feel like I get basically the same watch size wise, plus the bonus of having another chrono. Looks wise, I don't give an edge to either and they are both gorgeous. My thought was to sell the Fish and get a gen Skyland with a blue dial. That accomplishes a couple things. First, I have an additional chrono. Second, I still have a blue dialed Breitling. Third, the polished bracelet is a bonus as it pops more when I'm in the mood to have it on a bracelet, and yet it still is a bit more downplayed when in its default state wearing the blue calf - and unlike the Fish, I think it looks good on both croc and rubber which I can't really say for the Fish. So here is the question(s). Does this make sense to you all in terms of what I am trying to do with the collection and second, if I were to offer it up for sale would any of you have an interest in it? It is perfectly mint and only worn outside the office once. Not a scratch on it and all boxes and papers as new. Let me know as if there is interest and I decide to do it I'll list it here and give you guys first crack before I put it on TZ. Thanks in advance for you responses.

Yes. I think both yours and Fakey's are excellent observations...

I'm hurt that I didn't make your top friends list but I'll get over it. Seriously though, I wish you luck in your endeavors and I hope everything works out for you for the kids' sake especially. Take care CBR...

A lot of great straps you got there Dani. Of course the watches are not bad either...
-
Yup. I remember when I first went into business when I was a kid it was a hard lesson to learn. You go an pick clients up at the airport and you are trying to figure out how to spot the billionaire. I still can't. Actually, I'm getting better though. He is usually the guy without designer clothes and the black plastic Casio watch looking impatient...

Oh, sorry, I must have misunderstood then. Yes, the real rich could care less. The watch purists (supposed) are the snobs for sure. I was thinking about annual production recently and known owners who post at just TZ by forum. Lange makes around 7K watches a year and therehave probably only been a dozen purists who post them on that brand forum. They are very snobby over there and literally act like they are reps for the factory when you PM them questions, etc. Anyway, it just makes you wonder who the other 6,988 watch buyers from last year are. Believe me, I would love to post that and see what they answer...

You are a funny m'er f'er Bud Fox. I love this guy... Gekko

What time is it?
-
Yes, that is for certain. If reading the basic time with ease is the primary goal of a watch, nothing can compete with a Marina PAM in any light. Not much else comes close...
