Screw for permanent link on gen clasp
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Rolex Area
See, all of our ADs require the entire watch for serial number matching to order all parts. I said screw it (no pun intended) and bought a 60 piece assortment of Rolex screws of all sizes this afternoon. One screw $5, or a whole bunch of 'em for a lot less than $5 a piece. -
$650 is a drop in the bucket when you look at retail prices (and you'll be paying retail if you do any sort of layaway at an AD -- $7Kish depending. Generally not much discount on highly sought after sports models). I personally have over 1K into a couple of custom builds that are literally all gen with the exception of a few parts, but the non-Franken equivalent would be in the 10s of thousands. It's all really subjective, but if you don't want to contemplate around $4500 (average) for a decent used gen sub, then $650 up to $1200 for a Franken/top-of-the-line rep that's water tight and only a watchmaker or one of us nerds can call you out on is a pretty good investment. Of course, that's my .02.

Screw for permanent link on gen clasp
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Rolex Area
Did you find an aftermarket screw that fits and sits flush? -
So, I purchased a gen 93150 clasp, but the stupid thing came with no screw. I've now ordered two different aftermarket screws from eBay that were supposed to fit to no avail. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on one? Talk about "devil's in the details..."

I bought a brand new never worn DJ from a dealer who went out of business in Pittsburgh. 1993 serial with dead tritium dial!!! After reading that bit about Rolex applying luminova to tritium dials I think I'm gonna drop it in the mail to PBdad today :-)

Love it! I have a lugholes sub, too. It'll be vintage before you know it ;-)

Where can I find a hollow link 93250 bracelet?
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Rolex Area
Josh has one -- the "beginner sub" -- for $118 including shipping!!! Can someone take a look at that for me and confirm that it does come with the hollow link rep bracelet. If so, I'll buy that and slap a TW best bracelet on it that I have laying around and pass it on to another member for cheap. -
Where can I find a hollow link 93250 bracelet?

So I've been quoted $70 for the bracelet from pretty much all of our trusted dealers. Should I just buy the whole damn watch!?!?! -

Yeah... I've read about it being done, but since I'm not the most graceful I was going to send it to my favorite modder, PBdad, for some of his magic love. -

Hmmm... Well, there's no harm in seeing which has better fitment before I send it off to PBdad for a little extra special love -
Where can I find a hollow link 93250 bracelet?
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Rolex Area
Let me elaborate here on what I want to do... My BK TW best sub will be arriving soon. We all have read about how well the SEL fitment is, BUT the bracelet itself is solid midlink. This is incorrect, as the gen uses hollow midlink bracelets. So, I want to find a noobmariner bracelet (do not care about the clasp) that is hollow mid link, splice the SELs off of the bracelet my watch comes with, attach the good SELs (with the good fit to the case) to the hollow midlink bracelet and throw on the GEN 93250 clasp I was able to get my hands on. Thus, giving me the flawless 16610. -
I have an incoming TW Best Rolex Sub from BK and I know that the bracelet is solid link, but I want to do the chefcook mod and splice the SELs from the TW Best bracelet that has solid mid links with a hollow mid link bracelet. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these bracelets (with or without clasp)? Thanks! --Jer

What about the executive bathroom? I'm sick of getting water squirted at my [censored] by the damn bidets you have installed because of all of these European members. I wanna see some good 'ole American Standard 5 gallons per flush could-take-down-a-tree toilets installed!

How to make my MBW DRSD project a little more complete...
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Rolex Area
It's reeeeaaaaaalllly easy. You just need a 1.2 mm screwdriver to release the clasp close to the fliplock side. To release the other side (if you have a diver's extension), just use a pushpin or paper clip end to pop the spring bar out from the other side of the clasp. Then, you install your new one in basically the reverse order. I definitely recommend buying some basic watch/strap tools. I have a spring bar remover tool and a tool case which includes (among other things) 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 mm slotted screwdrivers. Trust me, you can pick up the things I have on ebay for max $20 with shipping. -
Alright, I believe anything is possible. If this clone mov't is a true clone, you can put me down for 3.

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. If it's 3K (which I still think is fair bc it really is brand-new-never-worn) I will sell my TAG outright. Even if I sell it for 700 or 800 it's still a better deal...

Alright, so I'm going to buy a gen 16220 Rolex Datejust with silver face, batons and jubilee. Now, this watch is mint. And when I say mint, I mean it has the red sticker inside of the bracelet and came from the case of a man who went out of business in Pittsburgh (where my guy picked it up along with 4 other watches at a show). I'm trading in my TAG Carrera Calibre 5 Auto and after trade in he's offering me the watch at $2500 cash. Now, I know I can buy them used for a little less, but does anyone have an opinion on whether or not this is a good buy? All opinions welcome...

If you don't mind my asking, what would this custom build cost?

Melissa, welcome! You'll get more help than you ever imagined. I'm starting to think I should have registered my screen name as "Elizabeth." I bet I'd have gotten 10x the help I did as a man

Help! Bought an ETA-powered 2836-2 063

Alright guys, I've sent off an e-mail to Takashi/2geeks and haven't heard anything back yet. If one of you fine persons has one of these DWs laying in their parts bin I would gladly take it off of your hands! -
When I had my grandfather's 1675 serviced last year, I talked to my watch guy at the jewelery store before they sent it off. He informed me that we could send a note along with the watch stating that all they (Rolex) were permitted to do was service the movement and to leave everything else the Hell alone, and that's precisely what they did. That faded-@ss insert looks so good on his daily beater, God forbid Rolex destroy all the years it took that man to get that watch to where it is now BTW, $99 for a Rolex? Man, I wish I were 40 years older... I'd have stocked up.

Hahahaha... OJ... I bet everyone of us with a fake Rolex has a better quality fake than his. Of course, that's essentially the difference between a REPLICA and a FAKE. We buy the good fakes, and they get the name REPLICA
