  1. +1 to both. There are a ton of good reviews from the experts like by-tor, lani, ubi, etc...as well as from other members on the models you mention. Lots of people have put in a lot of time getting some great info on the site. Take your time and you will be well rewarded. Welcome to the forum!
  2. Read any of these - most have gen/rep comparisons Planet Ocean http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/18161-review...net-ocean-45mm/ http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/94512-omega-...rect-sub-dials/ http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/7483-review-...4th-generation/ http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=16355 http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=105530 http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum...?showtopic=5863 http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum...p?showtopic=143 http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=16355 http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=57962 http://repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=54361 42mm (Narikaa version)
  3. Hate to go for an obvious choice, but since I have wasted countless hours on it:
  4. Omega experts - Recently purchased a 45mm UPO in heavy need of refurbishing off the board to try my 1st stab at a franken project. 1st thing that I want to replace is the bezel insert. I have read the gen swap requires machining regardless of whether you want it to move or not. Not sure this is within my capabilities at the moment. Next thought was to get an aftermarket one off the 'Bay like this one: UPO insert. Upon reading this tutorial: Pugwash UPO Bezel construct, i see that the pearl isn't part of the insert, but the underlying bezel. The inserts on the Bay have the pearls in them. This topic was brought up here as well Franken UPO advice, in terms of what to do with the pearl, but it wasn't really answered. Do I have to shave/file off the pearl on the bezel to slap on the new insert with the pearl in it, or do i have to ditch the pearl that comes with the insert and use the current one. I really don't want to keep the current one as its pretty crappy to be honest... Any advice/insight would be great.
  5. Check out Toad's review of the Zigg-modified SMP - part #s for the crown and tube are in there: The Zigmeister SMP Review
  6. Great topic and story. To be honest I originally got into reps after my brother bought a gen Rollie gmt 2 about 5 years ago. I loved the watch. I wanted one. I just had an issue with shelling out 4-5k on a watch for several reasons: 1. Couldn't afford it 2. I lose / misplace everything smaller than grapefruit 3. What if I had buyers remorse? So there started my process of looking onto reps. I hit all the scam sites with thier scam review sub-sites and all. I kept doing research and found this great place. That completely changed my perspective on watches. I used to be just impressed by the brand like 99% of the general public. I didnt know squat about watches, I just liked them After my time here, I can honestly say that I now appreciate them from reading all of the great tutorials, reviews, franken project posts, etc.... Having owned some reps over the years, would I buy a gen? Tough to say.. Granted, you get the quality, service and prestige of walking into an AD and buying one, but is that enough to justify the cost? Yeah, many if not all reps need servicing, but so do their gen counterparts- just not right after you get it After my bro told me the servicing on his Rollie ran him around $600 from Rolex, I was thinking - 2 new reps for me or a couple of zig service and lumes! Maybe I'll buy a gen down the road, but I just like this hobby too much. I'd never be able to afford the variety I have now. if I have buyers remorse, what's the worst that happens? I sell it for a loss of 100 bucks worst-case? The reps also allow me to work on them and perhaps try a franken or 10. It's a nice hobby away from a 60-hour work week and obviously something I'd never try with a gen. Sorry for the long ramble, just wanted to add my 2 cents..
  7. I still can't get past the whole partially descended nut thing.
  8. Couldn't help you with watches, bit if you are in the market for some custom tailored suits (made from gen fabric, just last years fabric) I highly recommend sam's tailor on Nathan road in Kowloon. They can make up suits up for you in a day and they are terrific. Got 2 Versace suits there for @800 usd and they are the nicest suits I've ever had. Shirts were about 40. He keeps your measurements so you can just send them an email with a pic of what u want and they make it up for you. If you google it, you can find their website
  9. Welcome. May your bank acct run deep and if not, as plaif said, may your credit cards run deeper.
  10. Steelfish - although a bit dirty I confess
  11. Surprising - Recently got 2 watches from Mary (one in Dec, one in Jan) and both arrived to NY within a week of shipping out....
  12. Yep - since I can't contribute much in the way of watch info, least i can do help keep the place running.
  13. All -recently got a Carlos Coste and I have to cut the strap down to size to my wrist. Want to make sure that I do it right and not have it look like I butchered it. Was thinking of using an exacto knife and then sanding the edge, but was interested if others had any better methods. Did a couple of searches on it, but couldn't really find anything... Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated - Thanks!
  14. Sent pm. Am interested provided you upgrade your status.
  15. Happy new year to all. 6 games of beer pong deep and ready to order another rep for no good reason at all.
  16. Thought I would always be just a Rolex and Omega guy, but recently picked up these 2 much to the dismay of my bank acct. Haven't yet gotten into the PAMs, but I'm still young
  17. Until Rolex starts making cellphones and my iPhone becomes waterproof, I think our hobby is safe.
  18. Apologies if this is in the incorrect forum, but as it wasn't a true "trade", I didn't think that it belonged in the member trade review section. In any event, I had posted a couple of weeks ago some questions on repairing/replacing a bracelet and bezel on my Sub. After the responses/contributions of many, I was able to better figure out exactly what I needed. During this time alligoat reached out to me and mentioned that he might be able to help with a replacement clasp, as mine had broken at the welded pin. After searching through his parts drawer, he found a clasp that would work. When asked how much he wanted for it, he said that, and I quote: "I'll get this off in the mail tomorrow, you don't owe me anything, but maybe you can help someone else on the forum or somewhere else. I've learned so much here that I just want to help other people learn and enjoy themselves. It's a fun hobby and maybe it'll be fun for you too." I was in complete shock. He doesn't know me from a hole in the wall, but was willing to send me a part gratis. Needless to say, I went out to grab the mail this morning, and there was an envelope from alligoat. Much to mys surprise, what did I find i that envelope? A complete Noobmariner bracelet that looks as if it is brand new. I was in shock yet again. My wife actually got p*ssed at me b/c I was more excited about the bracelet than some of the gifts she gave me I just wanted to post this a great thanks to alligoat and as an example of some of the phenomenal people we have as a part of this forum. I don't know too much now, but I am learning, and hope someday to be able to give much back to others as I have learned from everyone here. This hobby is gonna make me broke, but it will be a heck of a lot of fun getting there.
  19. Yep - my mistake. That one wont even work
