  1. Jake, Look at my post just above yours. There is a link to a post by gioarmani that shows various pictures of destroyed DSSD parts. The last image one shows a broken end of a full ceramic insert.
  2. Funny this topic comes up today, because I was looking for info on crystal removal and found this HERE. Gio shows a cross section of a broken bezel insert that is full ceramic.
  3. LOL...Point taken. No more Love fest... +1 I'd like to see this too. I may play with the pearl on my bezel, but before I start, I would like to know I can get a replacement in case I screw the insert up.
  4. Right back atchya! Tell me about it. One of the reasons I've been away for awhile is that I spent months and WAAAAY too much money trying to make the perfect PAM 111h. The closer I got to perfection, the more the remaining flaws were magnified in my mind. Funny thing is, you get frustrated, put it away for months, then one day, you pull it out and say "DAMN...That's a nice watch, why am I not wearing this?" Please do...or ask parga to repost his pics. Thanks, -Mike
  5. This can be tricky on the DSSD reps. Some have a HEV that can be pressed inward, suggesting that it may opperate in the opposite direction as it should. There is a thread in this section that discusses how you should be cautious even if the watch passes a standard pressure test. Read HERE. My preferred method of water testing a watch that has a screw down crown is to remove the case back, remove the crown/stem, remove the movement, and seal it back up by replacing the case back and screwing the crown back on. With the movement removed, if it leaks, no harm done. I start the water test by dunking it in a bowl of water. If it doesn't leak, I'll head to the pool and swim to the bottom and check for leaks. Since I don't dive, but I swim a lot and snorkel a little, this test is good enough for me. Once I'm done testing (and hopefully it passes), I reinstall the movement, make sure I have good gasket grease on all rubber, and button it up for good. As soon as I receive the case back opener I ordered, I plan to do this with my noob DSSD which has the depress-able HEV. I also plan to press the HEV to see if it lets water in. If it does, I'll do the epoxy seal job, but if it doesn't, I'll leave it alone. Hope that helps. -Mike
  6. Yeah...and the cool thing (at least I think it's cool) about the 2 current versions of this particular watch (Trevor's and latest noob)is that both watches have been purchased by several members that feel they made to correct choice! Most reps that have multiple versions have a clear winner when it comes to accuracy vs gen. This watch, not so much.
  7. How does the "feel" of rotating the bezel compare? BTW - Great post parga!
  8. I don't think you'll be disappointed. One of my favorite things about BK's watches is the fact that you KNOW you will be getting a genuine ETA movement and that he has them regulated by a watchsmith in China (at least mine was). Mine is +4 sec/day. I also want to say something about the steel color conversation that has been going around here. The steel on my BK noob DSSD is definitely lighter and brighter than the steel on my other sub replicas. Whether it is any different than the Trevor DSSD, I don't know. I may order a Trevor sub and do a comparison to answer the question once and for all. We'll see. -Mike
  9. Jake, I know I said I wasn't going to post in this thread again, but I should have said I wasn't going to post about the topic we were discussing. I just wanted to comment on your watch. I'm glad you got a good one. It looks very nice and your pearl mod looks great too. Our previous conversation has got me contemplating getting one of Trevor's to do a compare with BK's. I'd really like to see the differences side by side. Anyway, enjoy your new toy. -Mike
  10. Thank you Sir. You would know about a nice DSSD!
  11. Yeah. There is virtually zero gap in the endlinks. I know it's a tough call whether to go with Trevor's or BK's as they are both great pieces. One thing I find kind of amusing is that a couple of the flaws on both versions are the same flaw, just in the opposite direction. It looks to me like the bezel triangle on the gen is curved on top, but with a larger radius than the bezel (so it looks less curved than the bezel). The BK (noob) makes the radius about the same, if not slightly smaller as the bezel (making it look more curved than the bezel), while Trevor's makes it flat. The other thing I think where they are both wrong, but opposite is the hour markers outer ring. I think noob is too wide and Trevor is too narrow. Too bad we can't put each watch in a room together and wait for them to mate and create the perfect watch! I guess we all just have to pick which looks more correct to his/her eye. I will say that there is one thing on my particular watch that I need to address, and that is the paint on the rehaut engraving is a little sloppy and needs to be cleaned up. I couldn't see it at first, but after looking at close up pics and through a loupe, I saw the "K" in "LOCK" and the "A" in "VALVE" need a little work. Now I just need to figure out how to take it apart.
  12. As promised. A couple of quick point and shoot pix. I'll break out the DSLR and take some better shots this week. But for now: EDIT - Adding 1 more pic.
  13. OK...Look. I'm certainly not knocking Trevor's watch. Where did I ever question Trevor's watch? In fact, I've gone out of my way to do just the opposite and state his watch appears to be a fine product and the fact that he has such a loyal following says a lot. I was politely pointing out that I considered it a myth that Trevor's watch was brighter than BK's. I never said Trevor's watch is, in any way, inferior to BK's. Furthermore, I doubt Trevor would even state that his watch is made of a brighter steel than BKs. The reason I posted this in this thread is to counter what I consider misinformation about BK's offering in your post just before mine. And while we are talking about that post, tell me, is it good thread etiquette to bash a seller's product in a thread not about him? I have been posting, off and on, for many years and I defy you to find a single instance where I bad mouth any dealer, or their product. I believe it is every members responsibility to the community to be as honest and forward as possible in any thread, regardless of why it was started, and to point out what they see as inaccuracies. That's what I was trying to do here. I am not saying you are purposefully misleading anyone, I was simply trying to point out what I saw as incorrect and unfair statements toward on of our trusted dealer's products. Again, I have nothing bad to say about Trevor or his products. Hell, I was very close to ordering his DSSD instead of BKs. This will be my last post in this thread, because I believe I have made my point pretty clear and I believe most people reading will understand what I am saying even you don't seem to. I wish you luck with your DSSD purchase and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. I'm sure it will be a wonderful watch. -Mike
  14. Obviously you didn't completely read my earlier post and just picked out certain things. WE certainly do know the serial # of the watch in Lani's review! If you look at the pictures in Lani's review, as I stated earlier, there is a picture of the new, bright watch that shows the serial # M646829. That is the SAME watch that BK sells! If you want to know how myths start, they start when people spread untrue, unresearched, opinions as fact! Things like "No matter how good BK is, he can not "Mod" the Stainless Steel on his watch to be the same color as Trevor's." Implying that the steel color of BKs watch is inferior to Trevor's. WE don't know that to be true, do WE? WE have not seen them together before, have WE? I did my research when I decided to order a DSSD. I read all the reviews and looked at all the pictures I could find and had conversations with BK talking about the different versions of steel. After seeing plaifender's comparison pictures of M660304 watches and Lani's comparison pictures of M646829 watches, I came to the conclusion that both factories produced watches with two different grades of steel, and both factories are now producing watches with the brighter steel. This doesn't mean it's the exact same steel, but both have had dull steel watches and now have bright watches. I bought the BK watch because it used the same steel as Lani's "316F" watch. I am not trying to convince you that you should have ordered BK's watch over Trevor's. Trevor's watch appears to be a fine watch. Also, you will not see any threads posted by me degrading, in any way, Trevor's version. Again, I just want everyone to realize that Trevor's watch is not the ONLY watch using bright steel and that BKs watch is the same serial # and bright steel as is Lani's review watch! Lani got those watches from Josh. Josh sells noob. BK sells noob. Same steel. If you don't beleive me, ask BK if Josh gets better steel than he does.
  15. J - Thanks for clarifying that! My personal belief is that both factories once used a more common, less brilliant grade of steel, and both now use a brighter, more brilliant grade of steel. I just had to say something because I think there was a misconception out there that noob watches were dull and Trevor's were the only ones that were bright and brilliant. I just wanted to remind everyone of the review Lanikai did of the "old" and "new" noob watches and that there was definitely a difference in steel color. Thanks again, Mike
  16. Jake, I think one of us is misinterpreting information he has read on these boards (could be me, i don't know). I don't for a minute think that Plaifender is lying, but what I thought was that the comparison shots I have seen from Plaifender were not of a newest noob and Trevor's watch, but a comparison between Trevor's current offering and a different watch than the current noob. Both the watches in Plaifender's comparison shots have the Trevor dial and bezel insert. The current noob has neither. Maybe Plaifender can chime in to clarify. Did you read Lani's review? He clearly shows there is a difference between the steel used in old noob watches and new noob watches. I'm with Flippster. I'd like to see if anyone has both BKs and Trevors and if there are any differences in steel color.
  17. Alright, I don't get all this talk about Trevor's steel being better or brighter than BK's (noob)steel. In Lani's comparison of Josh's "old" and "new" DSSDs which he posted in November 2009 (), one of the main differences in the watches is the use of "316F" steel on the new watch vs "316L" steel on the old watch. If you scroll through the pictures, you will see a shot of the new "316F" watch with the words "The 6" above it, that shows the rehaut serial # as M646829. This serial # is the noobfactory serial #. This is the exact same watch that BK sells! Are all you people saying that the watch Trevor sells is made of a third different steel than the 2 steels used in Lani's comparison which are old noob vs new (and current) noob? I believe the "Trevor's is brighter than BK's" argument is a myth, and unless someone can show me a comparison of Trevor's watch and BK's watch, which shows Trevor's is, in fact, brighter, I don't believe it.
  18. The build quality is top notch. The date wheel is awesome. This is something I'm very anal about. I need correct font and center spacing to be happy. I have had some great watches that I wouldn't wear because the date wheel sucked. I eventually got rid of most of them. Even the movement seems great. I received the watch and set the time 18 hours ago and it has only gained a tad over 2 seconds! I have only one negative comment about the Rolex design. The bracelet seems disproportionately small when compared to the watch. I think it tapers too much. It seems to me that a 20mm clasp would have been a better choice than 18mm given the bulk of the watch. I'm used to wearing a PAM 111 on a big, thick 24mm strap and a Breitling Skyland Avenger on stock rubber, so I like the big size of the DSSD, but just wish the bracelet was a little beefier. But that being said, even after only 18 hours, the total package is growing on me. I bought this thinking it would be my daily workhorse, and I still think it will be. And dealing with BK is a true pleasure! I'll try to post some pics over the weekend.
  19. Just received my "Goldfinger" sub from Andrew. I'm in love with the plexy chrystal. My 1st watch with one.

  20. Go to Trustytime and search on ROLSUB054 The description says it's 38mm.
  21. Thanks Guys...not a problem though. I'll let it run for about a month, then open it up and regulate it.
  22. Just to add to By-Tor's reply...The GMT hand is a 24 hour clock whereas the hour and minute hands are a 12 hour clock.
