Hmmmm, I think that is a stretch. Unless you were raised in an enclave on another island other than Oahu. My fiancee` and I visited my brother, in the Marine Corps, Kaneohe, in '87. The usual tour, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Pali ladder, Paniolo Cafe for a rattlesnake burger, North Shore the usual. Then we made the mistake of visiting a waterfall on the North Side, wish I could be more specific, but it was 'local' and had a beautiful swimming pool beneath. We got looks, but were with the Marines. What could go wrong?
There was one local throwing a tennis ball to his Golden Retriever. The dog was smart. But not smart enough I guess. When he would miss a toss the owner would full frontal punch the dog in the chops. After about ten minutes of this my fiancee' had had about enough and called him out to stop. Without a second's hesitation the Hawaiian jumped into the pool, swam across and got up into my face as it was obvious who the girl was with. I remember a lot of derogatory remarks I didn't understand, then HOWLIE!, the sound of a light bulb breaking and I was out. I came around being dragged down the path by bloodied Marines.
So yeah, I dunno bra', this WASP sure as hell knows what it's like to be a "N" in Oahu. Then there was the time I was the "N" in Thailand. But that's another story. Maybe the Thais don't think racism exists in Thailand either. According to official position, neither does AIDS.
Anyhoo, I came away from both those experiences with a little better understanding for my Cuban friends. The kids are alright.
Cheers!
Hey Demsey,
I'm really sorry to hear you were treated like this. It just goes to show you that there are assholes all over the world. But don't think that just because one small group of Hawaiians treated you like this that they are all the same.
My brother lived in Hawaii for most of this decade. I have spent lots of time on the big island visiting him and I can tell you that some of the nicest, funniest and most gracious people I have met in my life were native Hawaiians that I met through my brother. I have been welcomed into their homes and shown many "locals only" spots on that island...And I'm as Howlie as Howlie comes.
I don't know if things have changed a lot in the last 15 years since you had your terrible experience, but my wife and I have felt so welcome there that we hope to make it our home someday.

Wow Jake is so cute!!!!!!!!!!!Beautiful picture of your boy!
Thank you both...He is fortunate enough to have a good looking mother...cuz he certainly doesn't get that from Dad!!

Great choice for a first rep. Mine is a year and a half old and I still wear it often.
Welcome!!

Nice moon, I thought your shots looked crisp, you must have other L's too!
Thanks...I also have a 200 f/2.8 L, but the lens I used for those other shots (except the A-Bay sunset) is the Canon 50 f/1.4 prime. I also the 100 f/2 prime. Those lenses are built exactly like the 200 L and every bit as sharp, but about half the price. Canon really makes awesome midrange primes.
I thought about switching to Nikon when the D300 came out because I'm a sport shooter and the Nikon can shoot 8 frames per second vs 6.5 for the Canon 40D I use, but I don't think anyone else can match Canon's glass for quality per dollar.

The 10D has a pre-stage mirror lock up in BULB mode to reduce camera vibration. 'Shooting the moon' is a matter of underexposing.
Like this?

Thanks! A Canon 300 4.0L aspherical lens with a Tamron 2x converter on a Canon 10D DSLR....oh yeah...and a tripod!
Great lens...I shoot MLS soccer with that lens on a 40D. About the minimum setup I can get away with for night sport shooting. Good thing the pitch is well lit.

I rotate between these 4.

Beautiful!!

Ziggification if not practical for all my reps, but any of the ones I care about or want in the stables for more than a few months will definitely benefit from the spa treatment.
Good point Toad...With the initial cost of this watch being only $185, I think I can justify sending to the Great White North.
Yep...I think it's time to ping the master...

Great info as usual!! Thanks.

My Paul Picot ran like that. So does my seconds at nine gold Daytona.
Sweet...I guess the odds finally worked in my favor.

I just received a black dial Breitling Skyland v3 rep from Peter at watchstation. The lume dots on the dial aren't bad at all, but what really surprised me is the way the A7750 movement works in this watch. This is the 6th watch I've owned with one of these movements and it has to be, without doubt, the best example of an A7750 I've owned.
Not only is the start/stop pusher a little easier to push, but it's the only A7750 I've ever seen that actually switches the minute totalizer subdial when the chrono second hand is at 12:00. All others I've seen have advanced the minute hand 1 to 2 seconds before 12:00.
I remember an exchange I had with The Zigmeister asking him if it was normal for the minute hand to advance prematurely like this and he said it is normal for A7750, but on his swiss 7750 it happens right at 12:00. I assumed this was normal and part of the design of the A7750.
I even opened the back of the Skyland to make sure the movement is indeed an A7750
, which it is.
Has anyone else seen an A7750 run like this?

And just why in God's name would you want to live there?!?
OK...I guess it is beautiful country...I'm just partial toward Lani's latitude!!

I bought two B & M from them.
Everything was smooth and safe, no problems at all.
Cheers

Thanks Steph...Good to know.
They are fine but I prefer Prestge Time. Run by a total watch nut named Ben. The owner is in the store and he knows watches. Call and ask for him and if you see a lower price elsewhere he will beat it. Been around for maybe 10 years. Honest as the day is long. All new stock serials in tact, boxes papers, no shop worn stuff. You request a watch and if he doesn't have it he will located it with an AD in a day and get it right in for you. Pretty much anything - even brands not on his site - just ask him. Thanks Robbie...I'll check him out.

I'm thinking of buying an Oris TT1 blue diver from them. The price seems great.

The Zigmeister is the master watchsmith around here. Spend some time reading his awesome tech posts:

This one inparticular answers most of your questions:

Almost pulled the trigger...until I realized The Zigmeister won't work on these movements. For $348, this is no throw away watch. If it breaks, I want it to be fixable.
If The Zigmeister won't work on it, that's the deal breaker for me!!
