Snapping a gen 5513 service insert into a gen bezel?
cc33 replied to lionsandtigers's topic in The Rolex Area
Beer bottle, and I just use two fingers from the same hand on opposite ends of the insert and apply a slight downward pressure. Maybe try it first with a rep insert that you don't care about because too much pressure will deform it. You might want to just have a local watchsmith pop it in with a specific machine/press. I have always done it myself and it works -
Snapping a gen 5513 service insert into a gen bezel?
cc33 replied to lionsandtigers's topic in The Rolex Area
When I have trouble with that I place the insert face up over the neck of a bottle and when it's sitting there I apply slight downward pressure all the way around to increase the bend or curve of the insert a tad. I do it slightly and try it, if its still not quite there I do it a little more until it snaps right in to the bezel.. Your insert prob just 'flattened slightly. Hope that helps -
It really is. I just read the email again, boy I have to learn to slow down, that company made the dial (Ivan) and he said Jack at IWW did the lume job. If anyone knows what IWW is please tell us
-
Lol, oh please!! You and freddy are still ages ahead of me. And I have no Idea who Jurgen is but I did go back to his email about the dial and he made a reference to an Ivan.. I looked through vrf and found a member who fits the bill. http://www.swissdialco.com/ I guess we all have to wait for him to complete the site and upload pics but I'm pretty sure this is the guy. He said he had Ivan custom make the dial, watch out Minh and phong, I think we have a new dial maker coming in for some of the action
-
He sold it to me for 900$ so not too bad, same as Minh
-
The hand look too fat and the dial looks like its been relumed
-
The second is gen yes. Original gilt 6536/1 dial in bad shape.. I have no idea who the dial maker is, I've been chatting with the seller who so far has told me that he had it custom made by a German company. It was done using an original plate and techniques. The next time I speak to him ill ask for the name of the company. I'm sure a few others would like to know as well
-
Lol, that's expensive but should be added to this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/VINTAGE-1957-ROLEX-MODEL-6538A-James-Bond-007-Military-Royal-Navy-/111012207111?pt=UK_Jewelery_Watches_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item19d8d7da07&_uhb=1#ht_3830wt_1006 And once combined is pure heaven

Now it's time to start working on my next project. Lets call it project 6536/1. I have this crazy dial I need a case and 1030 movement. I can get the movement on vrm or ebay but if anyone has a 6536/1 case to sell let me know pls.
-
That's just stupid, there was one for 3k on vrm a few weeks ago in perfect condition...
-
Haha maybe! Thanks Nanuq I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks Z, I hope you get a watch on that wrist soon!!

So after finding out that my replacement Minh dial was stuck in customs, and still is btw, I bought a refinished dial from ebay that looked really good. His pics weren't the greatest but I thought it looked like it would be a very nice dial. I just recieved it today and all I can say is wow.. It's spectacular. Made in Germany apparently and it shows!! Here's a teaser, I'm on my way to my watchmaker to have it installed. Ill post pics of the complete watch as soon as I get it back.

Lots of folks selling their dw daytonas in the sales section, grab one that's shipping from the eu. Much nicer than Andrew's imo
-
If you want a dw dial you need a dw watch with a7750
-
The two dials are not interchangeable..
-
I believe the watch had a leather strap on it, the metal one was in the box but separate as far as I understand
-
Date doesn't line up well in the window, text isn't centered
-
I actually put some water on the dial before putting it in the first time, not sure what the reasoning was but I did it. That might be what gave it that look. I agree that having it lumed will really help and I'm dying to know what it would look like. Yes that was me, I have to wire the cash tomorrow but then it's mine. I just couldn't get over that he called it ugly!! I really dig it too, thanks. Ill put it aside and make a 6536/1 one day soon.
-
Ohh, well well, I only had experience with a 6265 and 5510, I guess he's not perfect.

The cost of the engraving machine is irrelevant, it's the fact that phong uses an old technique that is very close to what rolex used back then to make the engravings look gen like. All of our cases, cheap or expensive are all engraved, but using short E's and the right font is the tricky bit that only a few can do, and he knows it. When you're one of only a few guys who can do something, you have the freedom to charge more, part of life.
-
Phong wont sit there at his workbench engraving and refining and all that for 300$ there's no way. I think Minh gets some of his stuff except dials from ndt. He then I'm presuming has to work them a bit before selling. 300 wouldn't work for him either. Ndt or yuki are the ones who don't do anything to the cases and might be able to lower their prices.
-
He told me to keep it, he sent the replacement and said do what you want with the other.. So I put it in the oven. Yes the white print moved, I might put it back in for a few minutes to completely erase that text.. It was fun. I bought a 6536 dial on vrm today that looks like its been through a war, I really like heavy patina sometimes, I'm not sure why. And I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I just bought it because it was super cheap and the ad said ugly dial, I was insulted!!

I agree, if I could pay less I would. They know they have the good stuff and so they nail us. Especially phong with his magical engravings that nobody else can really do right imo. The yuki cases seem to have the best value but I don't know if they can compare to phong or Minh stuff again especially phong who's stuff comes with amazing custom engravings
