  1. Surely McLaren GTR is a great car. But not for my tastes (even if I had the money, which I certainly don't). It suffers from the same disease as F40 and Lambos: It's a Batmobile. Driving supercars like that would draw attention like a Leopard Daytona (if you allow a comparison from the watch world). I wouldn't be comfortable driving one. And to be honest I don't like their design too much. F40, for example, is just plain ugly (esp. when the pop-up lights are up). Cool? Well yeah... if Rowan Atkinson drives one it must be cool.
  2. For normal people BMW M5 and 500+ HP is plenty. But if you snort coke and have too much money, you can always buy the Hartge version which gives you 750 HP. This takeoff looks like the guy almost lost it. Check it out.
  3. Maybe the new ones. But the 70's and 80's 911's have become classic cars. Lots of people appreciate the classic models, at least here in Europe. I see people who drive old Porsches (or any other old sports cars) as car enthusiasts. And you can buy an old unmolested 911 (in good condition) for 25K€. That's about the same price as a new ordinary family car. Targas are even cheaper... in the 15-20K range. Good article: http://www.pca.org/Panorama/HowToBuyAnEntryLevelPorsche/Buyinga911SC.aspx My dream garage would be (cars that I consider somewhat realistic to obtain for an average guy like me): Porsche 993 Porsche 928 GTS BMW 3.0 CS Ford Mustang Fastback '65 Ferrari 348 348 lines "speak" to me and they're not that expensive to buy, either. The only problem is the maintenance. When you change the timing belt the whole engine has to be removed. That's 5-7K at the Ferrari dealer.
  4. That was a friend's car which is not for sale. Turbos are silly money but you can get a standard 993 for 30K€ here in Europe. Pristine ones go for 50K€. Good rule of thumb is that you can buy two 996's for the price of one 993. Even the good old SC's easily demand more money than 996's which are getting cheap. Nobody wants them.
  5. That Beemer was sold for $110.000. http://www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1057833
  6. These are getting awfully expensive, at least here in Europe. And I fully understand why. Can you imagine ANY of today's cars look so beautiful and timeless 40 years from now? I mean like the Classic 60's Merc SL, Mustang '65 Fastback, BMW CS or Porsche 911? There's no way.
  7. We had a saying here in Scandinavia that if you show a white sheet to an English car in July, they think it's winter and refuse to start. Marshall made some awful electrics too. 20 years ago I had a Peugeot 505 STI with Marshall electrics. That car was a pleasure to drive but damn the electrics were a nightmare. The fuse box looked like a cheap toy... and there were constant problems. Old Frenchies rusted very easily as well. Speaking of oil leaks, almost all old 911's leak oil too.
  8. Agreed. That's a classic Porsche if I see one. @Freddy: Since you're a British car guy... what do you think about the 1997-2004 Jaguar XK8? I think it's damn nice looking car. They're not expensive to buy. But are they train wrecks waiting to happen like the old XJ's?
  9. Speaking of beautiful Porsches, the classic old SC takes the cake. If I bought one, I'd definitely want it without the wing. It's not particularly fast anymore by today's standards but who gives a shit. It's just well... a classic. And not difficult and expensive to maintain, either. And of course, the 928 GTS. A car that Mercedes chairman once called "the best car ever made". Check out how expensive the late model, low mileage 928 GTS's are getting. http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/porsche-928-gts-forzheim/185683999.html I wish I had a boatload of money and a big garage.
  10. Oh yeah... Daytona. Nice car if you have 200.000€ extra. The replica Spyder wasn't too bad, either. Who still remembers this one? A classic. and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkJvfET2-L0
  11. Lambos are amazing cars of course... and performance wise they're in the league of their own. But personally I've never liked them. They're just "too much" like blingy diamond watches. And they look like Batmobiles. Some Ferraris fall into this category too... like F40. I know its merits and all that, but it's still hard to see the attraction. I'd take a Ferrari 348 any day though. That would be even realistic to obtain... but I'm not sure if I'm willing to live with one (and its problems).
  12. Without a doubt 993 Turbo is the coolest Porsche ever made... and in my opinion, the best looking sports car ever made as well. You can disagree of course, but that only makes you a disagreeable fellow... not really entitled to your opinion. I just test drove one today and I think I need one.
  13. Now that's a sad thing to hear... wasn't aware of this. Mike is one of our respected veteran members. I've had a lot of good watch discussions with him. All the best to Mike.
  14. Surely you have seen this old one: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/81129-review-of-ebel-1911-discovery-chronograph-asian-7750/ One of the best reps ever for sure but of course nothing beats the gen which has superior details.
  15. What a coincidence... so many Fishes. Me too.
  16. WM9/TC Submariner 16610 is pretty damn accurate too. Breitling Skyland (with good dots) is also amazing. The initial batch of Seamaster Chrono (with ETA dw) is a killer... it's my oldest rep. With genuine insert it's virtually indistinguishable. And just FYI... HE valve on the chrono version is exactly at '10 on the gen too.
  17. 993 is very nice. But so is the SC. http://tinyurl.com/ptc27wd
  18. Definitely. 1911 Discovery Chronograph to be exact. Blast from the Past
  19. It's quite nice. But there has never been a 16710 with the rehaut engraving.
  20. I just bought it. Paid a little extra because it's such a rarity. Next I'm going to bid for this beautiul 16710. Wish me luck guys!
