  1. There is a Super Ocean thread where Puretime and Josh post about it and appears to only be available from them and perhaps Andrew. The RWI thread is 13 pages long, so maybe I missed something. But as I read Puretime's post, what he says seems quite reasonable to me. Did these dealers approach the suppliers with this project with the specifications and contract for a certain number of units? If I did that, I don't think I would want it available to other dealers either. Are we really saying that if 3 or 4 dealers pool resources and contract for a new Rep and construct an agreement with the supplier that it would only be available to them, that this is a cartel and price fixing is by default? I don't think I would view it that way.
  2. So what if they have the same suppliers. What does anyone conclude from that? Many dealers use a given supplier for particular models. Not news. And everyone should ask themselves....who benefits from these accusations?
  3. So, there is a cartel including andrew, josh, angus, and king. And they are trying to cut out the smaller dealers...fix prices, etc. Almost everyone seems to believe it. After reading through all of the posts in this thread I find NO credible evidence for such a claim. ( Don't consider the email evidence....in its currrent form.)Evidence may exist, but you won't find it in this thread,so far. Now the B&R issue is another problem and evidence certainly exists for that.
  4. Except make the perfect sub.
  5. I have not searched for the Micro Mask on the internet, but the brand I have is from Microscales Industries, Inc.
  6. That is an ST6D chinese movement and yes, it can be bought for less that $20 USD; but, it is also a good movement and will probably last you a long time. While there is some correlation between price and quality, it is not linear. ETA movements are better, but your movement is fine. I have never had a problem with an STD6...they seems to be more reliable than many of the chinese Miyota Clones. Just get your crown tube fixed.
  7. You should be able to find it at any good Art Supply Store.
  8. Masking can be done best ( I believe) by using Micro Mask; it is made so you can brush the Micro Mask over the parts that you do not want painted. Once cured you can just pull it off and have a template to use again if you wish without damaging the surface. It seems to me that it would be much easier than trying to cut painters tape, which would be much thicker than the Micro Mask and you have the problem of bleeding edges.
  9. Maybe he is with Angus. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry220186
  10. Is that you, RBJ?
  11. And in the 90's, Seiko made a quartz watch that had a smooth sweep that moved like an accutron second hand. Perfect replacement for accurton tuning fork movements. I had only 1 of these and have never seen any since.

    Paris

Been 43 years since I was in Paris .... University of Paris NATO Institute for the summer. Had a wonderful time. When I was there, I loved the city.
  13. One thing we don't know is whether the C-OMEX subs from 3 years, 2years, or current ones have the same dimensions.
  14. " I have a C-omex sub and will measure it tonight, but I already know that it is a CN case..." My C-OMEX is a TW case...it is heavier and a little thicker than the CN cases on Subs. The bezel is also a little thicker. But, I bought mine about 3 years ago. Oh, and it has lug holes and the RLX markings between the lugs.
  15. Thanks, PW. Very helpful.
  16. What is Jay-Z?
  17. There is also WBK over on RWI who is US based.
  18. Watch supply houses carry two products that I have used. One is called Silicon 7 and has the consistency of a heavy grease; the other is T-930 sealing grease and has the consistency of syrup. These are two of the products watchsmiths use. You can also get some silicon grease at auto supply houses and that will work in a pinch, but the silicon 7 and T-390 are better for watches.
  19. You'll have to email eta2836 to get prices. There should be an email link at the site.
  20. I have an Alpha sub and a GMT. Quite good actually...esp for the cost. The bezel inserts are the same size. The cases are a little thinner than our better RLX reps. I don't believe there is enough case material to resize the crown tube hole for a gen tube. Yes...shallow rehaut. You would be better off getting a C-OMEX sub...mine has a thicker case and deeper rehaut than my best rlx sub rep with ETA. But, you can't count on anything since the factories change these things without any notice. Also, my C-OMEX vintage explorer will take a gen tropic 22 crystal. These match originals better than Alpha...see http://www.eta2836.com/ETA2836.com/html%20folder/c-omex.html
  21. When it was made it was a very good movement...I agree. But now, ... not bad but not really high quality. You can do a lot of things with today's technology to make it better than original, and I suppose that is what Panerai does. But, it is kept not because of quality of original, but because of historic significance for Panerai. But, Panerai will now build their own movements and they are in a totally different class. There is a good deal of subjectivity in making judgements about movements, and this is only my opinion.
  22. " I dont understand this statement - these are angelus movments. How can they be only in spirit when they are actual angelu's 204's? " I was talking about the newest Pam movements in the link provided in initial post. IMHO, The old Angelus movements are actually less quality that the best current chinese movements found in PAms and FA Jones.
  23. " Tourbillion, I seem to remember that you once said that the Angelus 240 is [censored]... " Tourby is right...that movement is related to the Angelus only in spirit. They are magnificant in appearance; how they perform is another matter. But, kidos to Panerai for creating them. They seem to be very innovative.
  24. Oh..my...we're off again.
