  1. Thanks guys. The spring bars are gen spec from Yuki: http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/6784664/7760959.htm
  2. Just thought I would share some pics of the finished product:
  3. Nice build! After my 1016, and my 5517 are completed I think my next build should be a Tudor. That JMB case back really seals the deal.
  4. Well, I bought two Omega's from a seller in India a few months ago. They were valued at $90 on the customs slip and shipped DHL. I had to pay $30 customs on them. It all depends on what the seller claims as the value of the items shipped...as far as I know anyway.
  5. Four days. It was a Navitimer, one of my first reps. I paid for EMS and they shipped it DHL.
  6. My three frankens. A 5506 Air-King powered by a non-hacking ETA 2472 that beats at 18,000bph. Gen case and dial picked up on the cheap on ebay, hands were from cousinsuk, gen crown from ebay, on a braided NATO strap, I plan to pic up a gen Rolex leather strap and buckle in the future. A 5500 Explorer powered by an Asian 2824. Gen 1500 case, Yuki Dial, Raffles hands, Gen 7835 bracelet. A 1603 Datejust powered by an Asian 2824. Gen 1603 case, Gen dial, DWO from cubic works, Clark hands, Rep Jubilee from Raffles.
  7. Well, thank you. I'm sure the crystal would fit 5500 case, the problem is that i'm using a 5500 case. a tropic 12 is too tight and a tropic 13 is too loose. I never considered a relume, but i'm liking the idea...
  8. It was an aftermarket crystal from WSO. The main reason I bought it was because I couldn't find anything to fit the 1500 without a cyclops. After removing the cyclops i sanded, and polished, polished, polished! The dial and hands are bugging me now. I may vintage them a bit to tone down the white on the dial and hands, as they look too pristine for a watch that's supposed to be close to 50 years old...
  9. Added new hands last week. The tropic 13 arrived today, sadly it wouldn't fit. For the time being i'm going to just going use the original crystal. I managed to remove the cyclops without much incident.
  10. I see myself building one of these sometime soon. They just look too good!
  11. Well, I was bored today and did a beta build. I had a spare 2813 movement, sub hands, and an old gold crown that matched the case. I removed the crown tube to make it fit. This is only temporary until I get a gen crown.
  12. That settles it, next time I buy a case, i'm making sure it has a crown. I just bought a gold 5.3mm crown to match the case. Now I have to figure out a way to age the crown...I hope the damn thing fits!
  13. Thank You, Alligoat! It certainly does appear that my 1500 case has a 6mm assembly, between that and the ebay crown and tube no wonder I was all messed up
  14. I just measured the threads that screw into the case, both top and bottom. The crown tube that came with the case measures 2.43mm on the bottom, and the top thread measures 3.94mm. The other tube I have that was purchased off of the bay measured 2.84mm on the bottom and 4.33mm on the top. Now I measured the top threads in my 1603 DJ franken, and my 1500 cased 5500 explorer, both measured the same 4.33mm... does this mean that both of those cases are housing 6mm tubes??? I'm amazed with what should be such a simple issue is confusing me.
  15. I recently purchased a 5506 Air-King case and dial and am getting prepped for a franken build. I ran into a problem with the crown. According to my research the 5506 takes a 5.3mm crown, but my crown wouldn't fit. It seems the crown tube is smaller and won't allow either of my 5.3mm crowns to fit. I tried a 5.3mm crown tube I had that was too big in diameter to fit inside the case. The crown tube that came with the case is considerably smaller to boot. I'm stumped...any ideas?
  16. For the date you need what's called a date wheel overlay. Every 2824 movement i've purchased has come with hour and minute hands attached, i've since switched them to datejust hands I had laying around. I'll probably end up picking up some gold hands in the near future.
  17. You could try Perrin. Not Conus, but Canada. I've used them often, really good to deal with. They have a 3804B listed for $23.80cdn. http://www.perrinwatchparts.com/prod_name/dg3804b.aspx
  18. I just built one with a 1603 case. I used a 2824-2, worked perfectly.
  19. If you mean the 1016 Explorer I, I believe the dial is around 27.5 mm.
  20. I had a sapphire crystal meant for a 1500 case that looked perfect, but sat too low and prevented the seconds hand from moving.
