Too easy!! The second one is the 45mm. Date window is set further from the edge of the dial (for obvious reasons).

HEY! Did you see what I saw on the abovementined ebay seller's list...? Seamaster cases with the He valve located correctly. Oh, and nasty Planet Ocean casebacks with the stick-on inserts..

Caseback logo is stuck on insert rather than cast. Band is flat, not curved. Bezel/dial orange looks too dark (could just be the photograph). This looks like a generation 2 model that all the others were selling at one point or anohter.

My 090 (identical to yours JJFlash) was ordered with a solid caseback swap. Came from Silix - they should be able to source you a compatible one no probs!

Hmmm. Questionable choice of 'brand' from the ebay list. This is a first gen PO - the base watch is still listed on Silix... Money is money!

The power reserve guage reminds me of a 1970's linear car speedo, and 1970's styling does not mix with 1930's styling.....

I don't subscribe to this 'ETA is better than Asian' thing. It is far too much of a generalisation, and how many people in here can honestly say that they have kept an 'ETA rep' long enough to categorically say that it will outlast a non-ETA? I've heard of 'genuine' ETA movement reps being DOA. I've seen pictures of 'ETA' movement that have had assembly problems. Likewise I have heard of Asia movement reps running +/- 5 seconds accurate per day. It comes down to dealer confidence and quality control. I even saw one dealer (no names, no drill) casually failing to mention his 'Unitas' movements were the Chinese replicas, until another dealer let the cat out the bag. Also, for how long were we all convinced the 'Lemania' hand wind chrono movements in the reps were the real Swiss deal until it came out that they were cheap but good Venus copies?! The Zigmeister once said over on the old RWG that certain Miyota movements are every bit as solid as their ETA counterparts, but just like you will never convince some people that Rolex aren't the last word in quality watches, so will you struggle to convince people that a watch signed as 'ETA' isn't a guarenteed sign of quality.

Thanks to Ziggmeister and Neil I've successfully 'repaired' the damage. Crystal is now de-fogged and the face looks black instead of grey through it. I've straightened the crooked dial and replaced the rotor screw using bits from one of my scrap watches.

It would only have delayed the inevitable....

I know! I'm not overly conecrned about the movement as it appears to be working despite this, but the 'sweaty fingered assembler' has left enough moisture in the case to cause the crystal to mist up too. I haven't flamed Andrew, but I did email him to let him know this was what was being shipped out.

Looks like my requested mod (solid back) has caught on!

My black Planet Ocean from Andrew is looking more and more like a pup. Firstly there was the issue with the incompatible strap, which Andrew has acknowledged and I await a replacement. However, something had always bothered me about the crystal - it seemed 'misty', and it appears this is not an isolated case. I took the back off with the intention of removing the movement and giving the inside of the crystal a clean and discovered this... Yes, that's corrosion on the rotor screw. I have informed Andrew and await his reply. PS. Can anyone advise me how to safely remove the stem from this watch so I can see if the crystal is fogged or was in fact manufactured that way? It's the new 21j Asian movement with the pink tinted hour wheel.

And John, you are a gent, (with a watch collection I can aspire to!!) I enjoyed our chat about all things RWG so much I didn't realise how much time passed! My wife did remind me though... Here's to WoS GTG II (although if we invite the rest of the gang we won't be able to talk about them )

It was Eddie Lee, and it had the same 581 serial number as this one.....

I used to think I was 'into' chronos, but three multi-dial watches later I realised I did nothing with them so what the heck was the point. At the risk of offending someone, I believe their appeal lies in the 'more is better' mindset. The latest lunacy is the Omega Planet Oceans that have appeared with chronos. Obviously appealing to public demand, but a 'divers' watch with chronos makes about as much functional sense as a under-water trouser press. I like the Breitling Navitimer and IWC reps because they are close to the real thing because of their use of 7750 movements. I'd never touch the Daytona because it's been cludged.

2500 and 1120 are both derivatives of the ETA 2892. AFIAK dial and hands specs are similar across the 28xx range on ETA movements. I've never really understood the desire to substitute genuine dials and hands on many Omega reps as they are usually VERY accurate (when they don't say Seanaster that is...)

Paul ain't Paul anymore. When abay became Aspire I emailed 'Paul' and got no replies. I emailed the site-linked address referring to Paul and got a mystified reply from the aforementioned 'Chris Lin', who since seems to have caught on to benefit of 'being Paul'. My father sold his business 15 years ago, but it still continues with his name all over the branding......
