  1. Dear All,

I gave a very good friend of mine my Ultimate Sub and my Pug's Asian SMP GMT Bond so he could wear them for a while.  :D

Of course I let him choose from all others, but he focused on the Omega.  ^_^

I had to push him to take the sub too!

Let me say this: he is a very well educated brit, expat in my country…so his taste is more for classic, non obvious and recognisable design such as a Sub.

Did I hear "Love/Hate Sub syndrome"?

After wearing the things for a while, he told me he liked the Omega very much, but not the sub (wow what a surprise).

He ended asking me to get him an SMP, so I got him the one that is currently available from the manufacturers.

It's PT (PreciousTime) I choose to buy it, once again.

    About the deal:

I can't see anything special to say.

Great communication, perfect transaction and quick delivery has PT had it in stock.

    About the watch:

Well it has the usual flaws, bezel misaligned of course, but it has a major new one: screws in the band instead of pins. Manufacturers do not continue pins said PT.

Ok, the pins were a complete nightmare to size, and they must have had a lot of complains, but, believe me the screws s*cks too!  :disgust:

To size it perfectly, and have the clasp in the center, I need to use both ½ links on each side of the clasp.

Of course, these ones have bloody screws problem: one is impossible to turn (WD40 didn't help this time) and the other one turns but doesn't come out at all (tourne fou in French). So I had to remove them with a full link!  :protest:

Also, there are few full links featuring screws that you can remove.

At least, I was lucky that I could remove the ones I needed to take out and those screws were alright.

Anyway, as usual, PT is helpful and will send me some extra links +1/2 links, so it should be ok at the end.

Right now, my friend will have to wear it very very tight.

    Conclusion

PT is a great collector, for sure.

This purchase shows me that whoever you are ordering from, bear in mind the collector is not the manufacturer.

It reminds me the saga to get myself an Omega SMP GMT (the black/grey bezel one) with the correct date wheel colour and outlined date window.

It's really crazy that these manufacturers change their mind so often and do not learn from the end users what they should keep and what they should change.

Anyway, this is the Rep world…and we all love it, isn't it?  :throb:

Thanks for reading, and now here are the pics.  :smilie3:

    Cheers

  2. Yes, that one.

Spot a flaw if you can. :)

Also the numbers on the caseback are correct.

That watch would foolish everyone but a Paneristi owner of the gen. And even in that case, it would not be because of a flaw but because of the genuine unsurpassable quality of finish.

(BTW, I had my 050 tested for waterproof by a watchsmith, and it passed the test hands down. Good for swimming and even occasional diving like the 2-3 meters short divings that one may want to go when swimming).

Well that is interresting. I allways assumed that date Panerai were bad reps.

I read a lot about date font and cyclop being not accurate.

I might want one obsviously if it is so accurate.

    Thanks for the tip. ;)

  3. Dear All,

Well, what can I say. I'm looking at Monsieur Euno's thread for a while and didn't want to post before I got a little tipsy (not sure at all about the spelling).

I had a couple (might be more) of drinks now, so let's go.

I wish all of my watches were gens probably...but I'm not even sure about that statement.

I do not have the cash for that anyway and I'm not sure it would be the same fun to pop into an AD, throw a Gold Visa on the counter and walk away with a watch.

I really enjoy being here and tracking watches like, i.e., the IWC 3717 that took me quite a time to get from PT or Edge's Red 1680 that I was fortunate to be the first to jump on.

Being part of this board and wearing a Ubi DateWheel on a Edge Red 1680 is far more fun than wearing a second hand 16610 I would have bought for 3.000$ from a second hand ass****Dealer that got it for a 1.000$ from a poor guy that needed money right away and had to knee down (as John Lennon said), isn't it. :boxing:

Getting an Asian Fiddy from member Kelster and having it moded by Flav is great too, isn't it.

Sending a 1680 White that came from TTK who is in the far east to Edge (who's not in the far east) to create a 1680 couple is very cool too.

Putting a gen solid "limited edition" case back on AJoeSmith's Speedy is a slice of history, don't you think.

Not even mentionning a huge Trilogy project with some other great member...or a single red coming from Phoband, thru Flav, back to EU...

    Other thoughts:

    - when I first came here, I said to myself "these guys are nuts with there mods". How can they spend 700+$ in such watches.

    - now ? Well I think it's such an exiting hobby to try to get as close as possible to gen and still for a fraction of the cost that I wouldn't even consider buying gens.

    - getting in touch with nice guys all around the globe, sharing wrist time with the same watch, modifying theirs by sending to others,... it's as exiting as a first date !

I have 49 watches to date (including my wife, daughter and son's) and only 9 are gen: Baume & Mercier, Tissot, Seiko. That is it.

I might say something completely different in a couple of years from now, and probably will, but the only gen I'm looking at right now for 2007 is a Great White.

Ap RO, Patek Nautilus, VC Overseas, ...are out of my range of budget anyway. So I'll pick a Rolex for sure to start with (unless a kind member is making me such a nice moded rep one that I change my mind for a Luxury vacation with my family). :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    My conclusion is :smartass:

Only you guys can understand what this is all about.

And, only you guys, and some TZ or similar forums members, can "eventualy" spot flaws on most of the high end reps that we have access to.

The wide majority of people I meet and notice one of my watches are only saying "hey cool watch"...without knowing a clue about what it is.

You know what ? The most common "Oh really" reply I'm getting is when I simply explain about Automatic VS Quartz. "It does not keep perfect time for more than 24 hours! That is a bad watch :Jumpy: "

So, I'm more than happy with my current collection and, for sure, more than happy to be here, sharing all this with you guys :band1:

    Cheers

  4. @Qsub

Well every opinion is repectable, and yours is certainly too.

I understand that it is confusing "member on time fee" and "vip recurring subscription".

I made the same error and paid 10 (member) + several times 5 (monthly vip) and finaly 30! that since january 07.

The 30 US Dollars - 15 British Pounds asked for a year of VIP membership is a contributions for servers, maintenance, upgrades, moderation, ....

Sorry if I missunderstand you but nobody here, and certainly not members from the Admin team, is selling dealers informations or a secret dealer list.

I'm probably not an as experienced collector as your self but spent a lot of money (even more than what you mentionned) these last 12 months.

Since I became member here, my purchases are wiser and the quality of my watches is much better.

    Cheers

  5. @Nanuq,

    You are so right!

I sometimes whish my dad had been a collector ;)

My son is probably going to have a huge collection and choose his first "serious" watch among mines at the end of primary school, around 11/12 years...and so on.

You are right too: this thread is carrying some fantastic news.

My best whishes to the Nanuq Family :D

    Cheers

  6. Stephanie that watch is Gorgeous ! I was sure I would go for the Gmt,. but now....

    What is the thickness ?

    Hi Richard,

Pls note Stephanie is a female name and Stephane a male one ;) I'm a boy, thus it's Stephane :brow:

I do not have a precision instrument to mesure the thickness but I checked and it's around 14-15 mm.

You can find all the pics I have here:

  7. If you go for the chrono and like the color, I would advise the white colour, which make the lack of AR less obvious.

    Hi Pix and Richard,

Here some pics of my chrono which is more silver (not white) and for sure not as grey as certain pictures are showing :wounded1:

    On my wife's wrist:

    On mine:

    256458-6423.jpg

    And a general view:

It's a great looking watch that keeps good time. I do not know why it gets so few wrist time though.

    Cheers
