Thanks a lot for the highlights on this. Very useful. Those hands will have to do for the moment. I was hoping that something better would have been popping up since the last time I checked back in 2015. This too is a very useful piece of advice I'll have to take in consideration. Thanks a lot. 1) Therefore what you're basically telling me is that there actually is no good modder on RWG? This is not good... 2) Yes, thanks for digging that up for me Tom. Helena's hand looked a tad better than the others but TC's also were quite good. As per my previous reply to Automatico I was hoping that in the meantime something new would have emerged from the murky waters of the replicas world; apparently not. 3) I should check my old threads on here because I'm not sure whether my case was based on a 160xx rather than a 162xx. 4) Thanks for the pointers. I'll check what case was used for my first build and revert accordingly. -edit- So after looking around for a bit here's what I have found in an old post: "...After a long brainstorming session with both LHOOQ and Akira I chose to go 'franken' and was lucky enough to immediately find a (mint!) 16200 case..." So this is definitely a reshaped 12xx case.

Hi all, been away from this great forum for too long therefore here I am back again. First of all thanks a lot for sharing extensive knowledge on this post. Since I am currently waiting for a cheap 1016 build to reach my door (A2824, Yuki dial and hands, reshaped 16200 case, Clark T21), I'd like to gather your thoughts on the following: 1) Yuki dial: It's the matte dial with white lume version, I'd like to have relumed and "vintagized". Who would you confide the task to? 2) Yuki hands: Not the worst I've seen but not perfect either. Back in the day I had found TC's hands to be very good with the exception of the minute hand not being quite long enough. Did anyone succeed in finding something better? 3) Case is not a problem since I have a JMB V2 with custom markings and, alternatively, an old 16200 which had been reshaped to exact measurements by Akira, using LH's gen 1016 as a reference. 4) Movement: I'd like to swap the chinese clone with something more reliable. I can't remember for the love of me what's the position of Yuki dial's feet is. I'd hate to have to resort to glueing it to the movement so, any info on that will be welcome. Thanks in advance, feels good to be back L.

Oh c'mon! No hard feelings. You just did not fit the profile of a typical coffee-and-donuts-bringing assistant. [emoji38] Inviato dal mio SM-N910F utilizzando Tapatalk

Hi M. long time no see! Nice to hear from you. Yeah! I've got one request: sell me one of your 1016s thanks! L. Inviato dal mio SM-N910F utilizzando Tapatalk

Thanks a lot alligoat.

Would you mind elaborating the "old smoke treatment" method? I have tried to query the forum and Google too but came back with nothing at all. I think it must be something pretty obvious but I'd like to be sure before I order one of these JMB dials and ruin it by doing something stupid.

Good afternoon gentlemen, I think we can all agree that Stefano Mazzariol is recognized as the world's highest authority on all-things-Rolex. This is what he has to say about the "albino" 6542 on his blog: http://stefanomazzariol.blogspot.com/2010/02/rolex-gmt-master-ref-6542-albino.html which inevitably leads us to conclude that Rolex did at least issue one white-dialed 6542 therefore that's not a legend anymore. We will of course never hold a 100% rock-solid proof of that until someone from Rolex confirms but, as Panerai pointed out, they will never say anything so the world will have to take the above for granted since there's Mr Mazzariol's word and reputation behind his statement.

I think I'll immolate myself for the sake of science and the progress of mankind ;). I'd have ordered an additional set anyway.

Hi Blue, thank you for the value you add to your replies through pictures and videos... Lume area cutout aside, for the which there is no solution, do you think that it would be possible to work on the major issues with some very soft sanding paper, or would that mean chipping the chrome away?

Hi all, as promised I'm dropping another couple of pics which, I hope, are clear enough to show that HR hands are not bad at all. I personally am not very concerned about the flatness of the hands. What I find would need more work is the broadness of the lume area which, on gens appears to be a tad wider. Does anybody have an angle with Helena that would allow us to request the creation of "custom" sets? sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars Hi Carlos, The dial in the pics has got no lume, once I succeed in getting agreed with a modder I'll have both the dial and hands relumed. I just wish I' d be able to do that myself.... sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars On a side note I think that HR's second hand is spot on with gen, since the lollipop sits at exactly the right distance from the hand tip, and the bottom has the correct length while TC's is a bit too short. The lollipop itself should be a little larger but I have seen gens with a smaller lollipop therefore I (empirically) think that this should not be an issue. sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars

Hey Blue, This is the least thing I can do for the community. Bear in mind that I took the shots with 2x zoom under the harshest possible light to avoid projecting the phone shadow on the dial and clearly show that the tip reaches past the minute markers. As such the hands might look flatter and less smooth than they really are. I'll try taking more shots tomorrow morning under direct sunlight with a dslr. sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars

So the hands arrived yesterday but I was able to pick it up at the concierge only tonight. I have just finished fitting it on a spare movement with my service dial. I'd say this is the way to go! Hour and second hands are clones of TC's in shape, length, width of the lume areas, diameter of the lollipops etc. The minute one possesses the same width and lumed area but is definitely longer thus looking much better on a 1016 than TC's. Here are a couple of shots: sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars

Will post pics as soon as they're at my door. .

I have never used HR so I'm curious to see what they are up to and, of course, I'll keep the forum posted with what I hope will be excellent news. And since I'm quoting you: LHOOQ tells me that you've got a lot of intel on the variations between vintage and "modern" Explorers. As such I'll take the liberty of posting something in private to you tomorrow. I'd appreciate your feedback on a couple of questions I have.

Hi all, Helena just replied: silver 5513 hands are in stock at Usd 22,95 a pop + shipping. I'm getting a set right away because if these are good enough for JoeyB they'll be good enough for me. sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars

Thank you so much Joey! Currently this item is only available in gold colour at Helena's. I have shot her an email in order to enquire about the availability of the hands in silver.

Thanks Dlf, Phong offers a "Tudor submariner hands set" compatible with ETA movements. Is that what you are referring to or can you confirm that a new (and hopefully closer to gen) set is due out anytime soon? The actual one comes at USD 95/set + shipping, and does not look like an improvement over TC's judging from the pictures on Phong's site. Has anybody had any experience with these?
-
Nail hit on the head Ogladio. Gen 1016 and Tudor hands are not a viable option for the reasons you state. TC, Yuki and Clark all make good products which do not accomodate the need for a longer minute hand on the 1016; my querying the forum's search engine did not return anything encouraging therefore, I fear that any other solution will forcedly have to involve the kind of rework which was performed by Chiman on his GMT hand... Something I for one will never be able to accomplish.
-
... and this apparently closes the discussion as LHOOQ weighs in to say that even gen Tudor hands are almost indistinguishable from TC's hands... There apparently is no other way than going gen to get a correctly sized minute hand; which implies broaching it to the cannon on ETA based reps. Unless one decides to get a gen 1570 that is...
-
Unfortunately this is not encouraging in regard to Clark hands
-
Clark's hand looks spot on but that could depend on the angle from the which the pic was taken. Alligoat: Does the minute hand reach past the minute marker? TC hands: Perfect for a 16610 build, not so for a 1016. Would he accept crafting a set with different specs upon an order of, say, 100-150 pieces? I (empirically) doubt it as he is too involved with his project but I'd love seeing this happen anytime soon! Droptopman rules! Your mention about JoeyB got me on the right track: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/132246-using-a-2836-as-a-base-for-a-small-hand-gmt-project/?hl=joeyb#entry971552 Unfortunately this is a GMT hand and not a minute hand but from a conceptual point of view there's no difference as far as I can see upon my very limited knowledge of such things. I'm off sawing my TC hands!
-
Hi all, I remember having read something in here (?) on the subject of Explorer I hands. If memory still serves me well someone had succeeded in fashioning one correctly sized minute hand out of two shorter ones. I have tried searching but can't, for the life of me, find a clue. The short version is that I'd like to know if there is, to your knowledge, anyone in our forums able to do this; and If not, whether the usual workaround would be alternatively TC (but his minute hand is still a tad too short), or a gen Sub hand. Thanks in advance for any pointer/advice and whatnot.
-
been changing that with a TC minute hand which is much more discrete... but that was after the pics

Good evening gentlemen, Sorry for the pics but I'm posting this from TPT which formats stuff the way it pleases gen 12xx case reshaped by Akira JMB's bezel ring and slim caseback gen slow-beat ETA gen crown gen superdome rep bracelet from God-knows-where Whoopy's dial relumed by Cwazy hands (?) sent forn mungalaxy jote 3 usong tapatalk and this crappy onsc4een keyolboars

Hi meadowsweet, I tried to build a watch around my un-lumed gen service dial and personally advise you against it, since I found it quite dull, flat and somewhat fake, even with a gen superdome on it.
