Thanks, never done blades and will likely stick to the buckles. This stuff is indeed a bugger to work with.
Machine shop couldn't do the screw bars. It is a very hard metal and to top it off this metal is layered so there is potential for splitting. I have created a "hidden rivet" strap that allows for the changing of sewn in buckles on straps. The rivets are hidden under the keeper. Here's some examples.
With Damascus...
Hey guys, just thought I'd share the results of my latest project. I wanted to make a bunch of vintage Damascus buckles to go along with the plethora of vintage straps.
Here is the result, each one unique to itself.
Just thought I'd share a project I've been working on in my spare time. I don't know that I really need to explain, I'll let the pix tell the story.
Started with a blank Damascus billet
Raw buckles from machine shop awaiting the etching and vintagizing process.
Finished product on a hidden rivet strap
This all started with a dial I lucked came across accidentally. Picked up a broken Kampf on the boards and after I stripped the paint found this stainless engraved dial. I think the hands are a little too yellow even thou they match the text. I might tone them down to match the peanut strap I made. Also tossed in a Vintage Cortebert Gold 6497. I also brushed the case where the bezel joins the case down to the point where a brass colour is coming thru. Hard to see, but it looks great.
