  1. As part of a massive parts-buy, I ended up with a Titanium Panerai case. I already own a gen PAM89, and comparing this to that...it's damn close. So what should I build with this case? I only have the case and crown guard nothing else...so anything is possible. (As long as its made from Titanium that is.) Idears?
  2. Shouldn't this be in the WTB section?
  3. So the one piece of my 16520 build that I'm having a hard time sourcing (for a reasonable price anyway) is a gen bracelet. I was hoping to go the "leather with deployment" route, but want end-links and those seem to be tough to find too. Is there a good rep bracelet that will fit a Phong case? I'd like it to be as close to gen as possible. I was thinking about polishing the center-track on one of TCs, but in don't believe it will fit, or I can't find good end-links. Any ideas?
  4. Great topic. I buy gens where I can. (1675, 1680, 116400GV, 11610, PAM89, PAM98, 2220.80.00) and "Super Reps" where I just want to "Try" a watch. (PAM292J, PAM312) I've never lost money on either. (If you buy right.) I BUILD "Super Frankens" when I can't justify the price of a full gen. (1655, PN-6263, 16520, 1016, AP-ROO-RC) Some cases. I spend about 50% the cost of a gen. (1655) Sometimes it's 20% (AP, 1016, PN-6263) Sometimes, it ends up 75% and I wish I'd bought the Gen. (16520) So I guess the two aren't mutually exclusive. You CAN do/have both and not lose your shirt...if you buy/sell right.
  5. If you can make it work, I'd be happy to pay you to make mine fit a gen movement.
  6. I guess the people that are looking to build these are mistily interested in Super-Frankens. If I could have found a good one, I'd have bought it. I think I paid $850 for the gen dial and hand set I picked up.
  7. Email this weekend says they are getting close and will be shipping this/next week. ::: can't wait :::
  8. Yeah, and a brave man that knows when he's in over his head. I'm boxing it up to send to someone with a little more experience than me. I could see myself ruining a $1,200 movement with $800 in conversion parts if I'm not careful.
  9. I'm not sure there are any that I'm aware of. Gen dials are easy to find, so I'd guess that's why.
  10. Gen 1675 that the man in the brown truck JUST dropped off. Woot!
  11. Last night, I was just reassembling, but thought about it, and am going to start over and lube everything too. I've got all the tools in hand, time to learn how to use them! Live by the sword, die by the sword.
  12. Yeah, I know it'll be worth it in the end, I'm just really wishing I could find better assembly instructions. I KNOW I'm going to get everything together, and find one little wheel that is left.
  13. I'm quite happy with Phong's. it all depends on the movement you are planning on using though.
  14. I'm actually doing better than I thought I would. I found that same diagram. Not exactly easy to follow, but better than nothing. I'm putting it away for the night. Clear head in the AM.
  15. Ok. Im Getting somewhere... Going to be a long night.
  16. 20min later...I learn that I'm good at pulling things apart. Got to the parts I need to switch out. Now I need to find the directions so I can get humpty back together again. I picked the wrong watch to learn on!
  17. I got all the parts I need for my 16520 build...and then started at it. Pushers, tube, crown, bezel, and crystal...easy stuff. Then I got the datewheel off of the El Primo. Piece of cake! Rotor: No problem! ...then I started pulling the bridge. ...and now I'm officially in over my head.
  18. Gen 1680 that just arrived today. Man...I love this watch already!
  19. Exactly. It's worth the extra $100~ at the front end, to save a bunch of headache down the road.
  20. I'd tried before. Your PM box is too full. Update: Just tried again...worked that time!
