When it comes to Davidsen there are many thoughts that run through the average enthusiasts mind
-
I was willing to do it on his auto PAM 240 as he is the only one selling them. What's even more interesting is the fact that since typing my post above, the watch has stopped wroking. Movement is now dead. I will be doing a candid review of the product and I have contacted Davidsen about the issue in hopes that he will rectify them. He has already offered to send some crown gaskets but I am going to request that he send an entire watch that I can then make sure works properly. Regarding the lever Peepshow, I am referring to the location of the "pin" that holds the lever in place. It is slightly too high on the crownguard and thus won't properly lock the crown.
-
FYI. I took one for the team and purchased a DSN 240 that I"ll be doing a review on..hopefully today. Two things to note: 1. The watch he sent me photos of was not the watch I received. 2. There was no gasket in the crown. When I asked about that this was his response: My crown isn't being pressed down by the lever at all. The lever is not centered in the CG. IF he sends me a new CG that might help but otherwise I will have to modifiy the CG to get it to put pressure on the crown and add a washer. More to come later.

Stilty, NEVER leave funds in your paypal account. Especially if you sell stuff as well. Set yourself up with a 2nd checking account not linked to your primary one for your paypal funds. When you pay, always pay with a credit card incase you get scammed you have the protection of your CC company to fall back on and not Paypal's almost worthless dispute resolution. If Paypal puts a hold on your account for anyreason, they won't have the funds in your account to mess with. You'll still be able to use them.

I agree and am willing to take one for the "team" to see how it is. I'm doing a custom job though as I will have a stainless bezel on mine as I will be wearing it on a titanium bracelet. Shame I can't put a stainless crownguard on it though.
-
nice but it would be better to see it on a watch.
-
PAMman, What is wrong with his crown guard? The one on the 240 looks pretty nice. Thick and not a large gap between the crown and the crownguard. Looks much better hten the 104 crownguard.
-
Yeah UncleJay I know about your problems but figured I'd be one of the guinea pigs for his 240 to see if he has the same issues with this one as the 104. INtersting thing though I found out from him. Turns out the Titanium cases are made at a different factory then the STainless ones. I wanted to have a stainless crownguard with a titainum lever on this watch but he told me it wouldn't work as the parts won't mate because they are made at different factories. I've heard he has some of the better titanium cases. Is this a truth?

What do the experts think of the new Davidsen 240? I know he's had QC issues with the 104 but wanted the hive's opinions on this offering. I've been talking to him about getting one for over a month now and have been waiting for it to be released. Thanks guys! Davidsen 240

Who would like directions to the Guangzhou Watch Market?
gavidoc replied to gavidoc's topic in General Discussion
Two of those photos appear to be of markets in Hong Kong. The Kowloon and the Mongkok ones. Those are prominent areas in the Hong Kong area (Kowloon is across the bay from Hong Kong Island). I stay in the Renaissance Kowloon when I'm in town. -
Understood Guys. Thanks.

Who would like directions to the Guangzhou Watch Market?
gavidoc replied to gavidoc's topic in General Discussion
True but at twice the time. 90 RMB is only around $13 which my company pays for. -
So I'm one of the lucky few who goes to China on business on a regular basis and I am even more lucky as I spend majority of my time in Zhongshan and SHenzhen (both of which are about 2.5 hours from Guangzhou by car). My assistant over there drew up these nice directions for me on how to get to the market in Guangzhou from Shenzhen where the high speed train is located. On my last trip, the day I was going to go was the day that the Typhoon hit so I couldn't make it but she told me that the market is actually listed on maps of the area. I took the information that I had gleaned from here and gave her the task of finding them. This is what she found. 1. From Sheng Zhun LuoHu to Guang Zhou Dong Station, ask the waitress to lead you to the LuoHu railway station for taking the high speed train. Please call me if she can not understand you. When you buy the ticket, you show the #1 attached. 从罗湖坐和谐号(快速火车) 买深圳 到 广州东 的车票 It will take 1 hour for you to get to GuangZhou Dong railway station. (cost you about RMB90) 2. From Guang Zhou Dong railway Station to Guang Zhou Watch market (close to the Guang Zhou West railway Station), take a taxi and show the driver the map attached. (watch market in Chinese is: Shou Biao Shi Cang. Watch is Shou Biao, Market is Shi Cang) 从广州东

I'm in China 3-4 months a year and have never had any issues with bringing copies back through customs. I don't do anything special. Watches, go in my watch case (in my carry on luggage). DVD's go in my DVD case (in my carry-on luggage). Breeze through pre-boarding search with no issues, land in Tokyo, no issues. Land in US, declare a $0 amount and state I was on business and pass through. My bag was searched once and I had my DVD case opened. That's why I have real movies in the first few pages. Also, for the most part as long as you don't have multiples of the same thing, a customs official will turn the other cheek. They are more concerned with those who sell large amounts. I always fly out of Guangzhou, not Hong Kong and always land in the US at Seattle.

We strive to make reps like the real deal but here's a question I was thinking about. Is there a particular reason we don't modify the Asian 6497's and our ETA 6497's into the high beat -2 models? Is the only difference a couple of gears and if so, what are they? Thanks guys!
-
Regarding the California and the L's, I didn't "remove" them paint wise from the dial. What I did though was mask off the areas and used some flat black paint that I have (it matches the dial perfectly) and painted over them. With the crystal it is hard to see unless you happen to be right on top of it. Since this is a 47mm I wanted it to look more like the original which only had the Swiss Made.

Got it out. It was just in there really tight with the spacer ring. When they assembled it a small piece of the [censored] was ripped and got wedged between the case and the spacer ring making it really tight.
-
Is it the same as a normal watch or is there something special that has to be done? I've read about people having to remove bezels and crystals on normal fiddys but can't remember if that is to get the movement out or not. Thanks for the help guys!
-
Thanks for the comments folks! The Cali is one of my favorites. Thanks SS. I'd rather picky about what I want (I'm a designer by profession) and modding a rep is definately the way to go for me. Luming? Nope. Not the best at it but you gotta start somewhere you know?
-
Oh man I'm sorry to hear that. I went ahead and ordered an acrylic 37.2mm crystal from CousinsUK today. What sucks is sometime between my ride home and now, all the lume fell out of the min. hand on my mini and is floating around on the dial. I tried to remove the movement but it was a no go from the back. Do I need to do something else besides removal of the crown and movement retaining clips?
-
Haven't been into reps for very long but thought I'd show what I've got. Not much and not the uber mods that most of you have. I'm still fairly new to this stuff but here goes. Up first is the one I've had the longest. Got it on Ebay back in Aug. of last year. It's got the best movement I've had so far. Only one stamped with the ETA markings so I think it's one of those hybrids. The simple mods I did to it were the removal of california and the L's on the dial, removal of the panerai logo on the crown and the replacement of the caseback with a thicker solid caseback with no marks. So now it's completely sterile. Lume is pretty good and it glows all night. 3646 The next one was my 2nd rep. It's a 104 I got off of Ioffer back in Jan. Dial isn't correct but it works really well. Magnification sucks too but I like it. Has really good lume and glows all night. I'm thinking about putting this into the Mini-Fiddy (if I can) that is further down. I had picked up a real crown for it but the ditch on the rep crown (where the lever goes) isn't as deep as the real deal so the lever won't work. So I'll save the crown for a different project. 104 Third up is the one I've really wanted. It's a hybrid of two watches. I love the 6154 Rolex marked ones that were made but none of the rep dealers have them done up the right way. Some have them in the right case but not the dial I wanted or with the wrong hands that I wanted. While others had the right dial and hands but not the right case. So I found the case on ebay and it came with a sandwich dial. The movement crapped out after 2 days but hey, I only needed the case. It was areally poorly made 6497. The dial and hands came from Trusty hommage. Problem was that the Trusty dial isn't thick enough for the sandwhich dial case so I had to strip off the outer layer of the sandwhich dial and use it as a spacer between the rolex dial and the movement. Put it together and you have this beauty. The lume is abyssmal and I'll relume this one myself. 6154 My final one is a Mini-Fiddy. I first thought about getting this watch when I saw SSSurfer's post on his mini mod with a 104. I had been thinking about modding the 104 above but didn't know what to do. I then was off to China for a few weeks on business and forgot about it till I saw a post on a review about Sead's mini. That convinced me to order one from him and he was awesome to deal with. The watch arrived yesterday and immediately I thought, "Oh this sucker needs a bracelet!" Spent 3 hours last night modding the end links to fit the fiddy profile (not an easy task) and you have the below results. I'm going to put a higher cannon pin in it and eventually relume the dial and hands. The lume is pretty decent. Doesn't glow like a torch all night but when I woke up this morning at 5 it was still glowing along and I was able to read the time with no issues. The only other mod I'm going to do is possibly polish the crown guard to finish the two tone polished/brushed look this watch has. Mini-Fiddy I'm thinking my final rep will be a hybrid 240/Tantalium model from Davidsen. I've got a great titanium bracelet that I need a watch for and I've talked to Davidsen about a 240 that has a polished SS crownguard and beze, blue hands, and no cyclops. I'll then install my real pam crown in that. Thanks for taking the time to read this folks.

Thanks for the response. I just got my Mini-Fiddy and I'm wondering if the movement would fit. My 104 case is the same thickness as the mini case (from my quick measurements last night). I have begun the process on mine and spent a few hours last night fitting a 24mm bracelet to it. My next question is do you have clearance on your's to change the date (obviously). Reason I ask is when I pull the crown to adjust the time on the mini, the crown almost touches the top of the crown guard. Thanks.

FYI. I did CAD/CAM work for 8 years and I would not want to take the CAM data that someone else created and use it on my machine. Save yourself some time and just create the CAD data that can be taken to a shop and let them set it up their own way. Regarding case tubes, it's not hard to remove the case tubes..>Even pressed in ones. I use a screw extractor put into a tap holder and twist. I haven't had any issues yet. Perhaps I've been lucky.
-
Here is a question and I apologize if this has been answered before in the past. With all the issues that arise from the PAM crowns and the "ditch" and how it fits to the rep case tubes, why not also make a case tube that will work with your crown the correct way, every time. Sell the pieces as a set. Is it safe to say that most rep cases use the same diameter case tube? Would it not be easier to remove the old case tube and install it (like how the Rolex guys do to their reps) to get the proper fit and look? I would think that members here would be willing to fork out a bit more cash for not only a crown that looks correct dimensionally but fits correctly to their cases with minmal issues.

I see nothing through that link. Could someone post the details here for those of us who can't ready asian text can see what it looks like?
