  1. I've always viewed caseback accuracy as a 'flourish' on a watch (especially a project build). Sure, it's nice to get the correct one, but as it's so rarely seen, as long as they keep the movement in, and the water out, I tend to be happy That said, I am planning on getting one of these, so I can use the caseback for my Snowflake project, and I'll just fit a blank caseback to the Oyster Date I'll then be swapping the bracelet for a black leather strap, just to have it nice and classy
  2. I think I saw an identical dial, which would fit in a 36mm case for sale as well, that might well have to be a future project for me
  3. All the looks, and none of the associated stigma
  4. I think it would be an ideal candidate for the decal process, the question being if Slarti would have the time to collaborate on the project (which sadly, would mean re-doing the entire design from scratch himself, as what I have saved, is a screen capture, so not really workable in autoCAD) My other idea, which I didn't get time to do, would be to actually have 'California' in cursive above the 'superlative chronometer' text, but I have to admit, I think the basic design stands as it is without the extra text [Edit to add] I managed to make a few tweaks in Paint to make it a bit more presentable, but I felt like I was trying to adjust the timing of a movement with a chisel and sledgehammer
  5. If the feet won't fit, I've used 2mm x 2 mm squares of double-sided tape to fix dials directly to the front of the movement. Sometimes, it's necessary to use a stack of three layers of tape to get proper clearance so the datewheel doesn't jam the movement at midnight, (and four individual stacks for a balanced result)but other than that, I've found it an effective method
  6. Thanks, I'm glad you approve, that really means lot coming from a builder of your caliber Had I been able to actually save the progress (I used an expired trial version of the software, so projects can be started, but not saved ) I would have done all the Rolex text and coronet 'in program', rather than having to import it, which resulted in the outline boxes (I'd've also done a better job of filling in the minute track ) I figured this dial in a modern Milgauss case would have looked pretty sharp
  7. That color scheme/markers configuration really is The Classic when it comes to DJs
  8. WOW!!! I'm going to do a little research into this subject myself, I love how those watches look, they must have looked incredible when they were first built [Edit to add] This was the concept work I mentioned above. Purely done for my own amusement, and as I'm not able to save anything on my autoCAD program, I did a 'rush job' to finish the overall look before retiring for the night. I wasn't originally planning to put it up for display, but as the subject has come up, I figured I would share
  9. It's far from finished, and certainly nothing spectacular, but I've really enjoyed wearing this watch the last few days, so thought I'd try my hand at Freddy's mirror shots This is one of my favorite photos of the dial (mounted in different case)
  10. Wow, that shot's worthy of a catalogue
  11. I'm guessing a fantasy dial (ironically, I was working on a very similar design a few days ago for personal amusement) The thing which makes me suspect a fantasy dial, is the layout of the text, with Rolex and Oyster on the same line... Either way for something a bit different and a break from the norm of the usual suspects
  12. Absolutely fantastic work, a real labor of love
  13. It's good to have you back, I hope life has been treating you well As you say, it's just a matter of time before I can make it to a GTG, I keep telling Emily what an awesome country Belgium is, and what an awesome group this is, it'll be great to be able to show her both at the same time
  14. Ahh, that must refer to the original model of the watch to which this might be a modern version of, if they have that wording, fair enough that he copied it into his own description (well, other than him trying to sell a rep as a gen...) Here's hoping you get a satisfactory resolution
  15. I can't quite make it out in the pic, but might I be right in thinking that the dial has a similar 'sun burst' patterning like on a blue TT Sub dial? If so, I have to admit, I'd be tempted to treat it to a modern case and see how it looks
  16. Awesome news When you say 'picture windows tinted', does that mean large single pane windows, or something more like the stained glass windows of a church? When we move into our pool house, I'm putting white blackout film on the bedroom windows
  17. Just a quick and dirty pic... I really wanted to get this watch wearable for the upcoming hot weather (Silly, I know, but I trust solid bars a lot more with a NATO strap than springbars ) and with no Snowflake hands, nor Swiss movement to mount them on, I was forced to cannibalize my 6200 project for the movement and hands Not perfect, I know, but I love the dial which Slartibartfast gifted me, and I like the abuse wabi-sabi of the crystal, so I wanted to give it some wrist time. Today's actually cooler than the last couple of days, so I'll probably be back to the 7919 again tomorrow, but I wanted to keep this on for a little while longer Here's looking forward to being able to complete the project properly
  18. Really sorry to hear, I hope everything gets resolved. I just looked at the listing, and saw this text as part of the sales blurb: I guess they copy/pasted that bit from a rep dealer's advert
  19. Can't believe I missed your post, bro, but really glad to hear you've got your stuff moved
  20. Different name, but the same message...
  21. I think DLC runs at about $200-$300... I just checked back to an enquiry I sent to Avitt about DLC coating, and the costs to DLC a Sub were $365 for the watch (which includes disassembly and assembly), $175 for a bracelet, plus return shipping.
