A bit of Rolex, a touch of vintage, a lot of character ...

I've found that my 029a attracted the most comments from females, which Omega, Rolex and Tudor have never elicited. Wether those other watches were noticed but not commented upon, I could not say.

It's funny, without the branding, it almost looks like a Submariner with a GMT function, what kind of warped individual would build a watch like that
-
Looking very nice
-
Not for me Strangely, when I click on a watch, it shows 'frequently bought together' options which are not shown on that sole page I'm just it's just a temporary glitch, but I must admit, I rather liked looking through the quartz non-chronos, it was a nice change from the norm I agree 100% I bet they sell dozens more 'cheap' Subs, compared to just one sale of one with a 'Swiss' movement
-
Ahh, I see what you mean now Yes, it would certainly be in their best interests to list the best watches they have (best meaning best quality, not necessarily the most expensive) Strangely, since I made my post, I went back to the WatchEden site to continue my 'Hublot Hunt', and they are now listing only a single page of watches... yesterday they had 20 pages
-
Ahh, yes, I see what you mean there, in that they should offer the best of what's available I think it depends on how much of their sales demographic really comes via the forums, rather than 'google hits'. As collectors, forum members are more likely to be more critical have more discerning taste, than someone who just thinks "That's a nice watch..." (to whatever watch they see ) so indeed, if the forums are providing the majority of their business, then it would be better for them to tailer their collections to that market. On the other hand, given that there is so much drop-shipping, it's not a case of them having bought stock and not shifting it, so it doesn't matter to them if they advertise the 'less than excellent watches' as well as the good stuff On the theme, the other day I actually looked at WatchEden's Hublot selection, and they have got quite a range of nice quartz watches. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but certainly ideal for some, infact, I'm planning on getting one each for my best friend and his wife for when they're next over from Tokyo. Given the need for punctuality, he needs quartz accuracy, and I remember he asked if I'd heard of 'Hub Lots' last time we spoke, so that might well be the ideal watch for the purpose

To be honest, I doubt feedback on the quality of the watches (other than quality of if it functions or not) is something which dealers can act upon with the makers to get improved. Also, with regard your comment about the watch with the faux tourbillon, I rather like the black-dialled DateJust available with the cut out on the dial which shows the balance wheel swirling away Sure, it's by no means accurate, but it does look fun As with everything, it's just a matter of personal taste

Certainly better than a hundred bucks for a piece of vintage rubber
-
Any time, bro The ventilation holes really do work to keep the wrist cool as you move you arm, and no water retention to make the strap uncomfortable, and, as you can see on the website, the price is right
-
All you need is one of these Tropic-style straps, and you'll be good to go for the summer I love how mine looks and feels, easily the most comfortable rubber strap I've worn, and no uncomfortable water-retention PS The back is vented in the same way as the originals, not just flat silicone with the weave texture on the front

I have two, in no order: Classic, yet customized: Inspiring to my own project:

You're absolutely right there, to be honest, I would be happy to tattoo someone for free, if it meant giving them art which they enjoyed, although sadly, we also need money to live, so indeed, I would have to charge enough to live on Even though the petals are quite crude and will probably heal to invisibility, I'm happy with what I achieved, based on my intentions. I did not want to leave permanent ink marks from a 'trial run', so no ink on the needle, nor stencil on the skin, so I had to do it totally freehand, in a manner I'd never done before, so in that regard, I'm very happy with the results, and it's only encouraged me to aim to get more professional equipment, and focus on that as a 'specialist technique' in addition to regular machine tattooing
-
All's good, thanks bro, I've decided not only am I going to start tattooing, I'm going to learn how to do it 'bamboo style' like in Thailand. I did some cherry blossom petals on the side of my foot friday with a dry needle just to test the technique, and while the shapes were a bit rough (totally freehanded, no stencil) I was happy with the technique, so have decided to try and specialize in it

Given how he likes the twin timezone ability (of two watches ) I'm surprised there was no mention of GMT function during the consultation process Good to see you, bro

:Jumpy: Very tasty :tu: Makes me feel happier about the re-casing of mine
-
Wow, that was a fantastic read, thanks for the link

Spot on The tube on the other case gave out, so my only option was to use the 5513 case. No longer a relatively accurate rep, but still fun to wear

Is it already time for me to look for a grail?
TeeJay replied to Gorilladame's topic in The Rolex Area
A grail can be whatever you want it to be, are you defining 'grail' as 'the ultimate watch which best suits your needs', 'the watch with the details and features which ppeal to you the most' or simply 'the watch you like most for xyz reasons but is going to be difficult to acquire'? Personally, I could consider the Tudor Submariners as grail watches, in so much as they meet my needs functionally and aesthetically, and I feel their dial details make them better (in my opinion) than similar watches, like the 5513, 1680, and way better than the 16610, which I feel was actually a backward step in terms of dial visibility. However. If I was to consider a watch 'grail' based on it's extreme difficulty to acquire, then I would have to class my personal grail watch, as the GMTIIcSubDweller bastardizat- er, I mean 'hybrid' ( ) I've wanted to build for well over a year now. To me, that's a grail in so much as it's not just the hunt to acquire the parts, but also the intended result, which will be a totally custom, one-of-a-kind unique watch. Best of luck on your quest -
No change since yesterday Still no takers on what has changed about my watch since say, last week? Here're before and after shots for comparison Again, no prize, just a bit of fun

blue lume hand markers..green lume on hour markers
TeeJay replied to stretchrunner's topic in The Rolex Area
You being prepared to pay more, and the rep manufacturers being prepared to pay more, are two very different things, my friend Sadly, they build with the lowest cost possible, and are marketing to folks who aren't as 'particular' about details as a watch enthusiast, but just want a 'nice-looking watch' I'm not too sure what the Zigmeister charges for a relume, but his work is without question, first rate quality -
If this is the same person who's been scamming people over the UPO and sent the box of bits to Sixx, then you might as well just go to paypal, because someone who can behave like this towards many people is not going to honor their obligations unless forced to do so. Normally paypal disputes against dealers are a nono, but this isn't a dealer, but a private person, and if this impacts their future on paypal, then that is what they deserve for trying to rip people off...

blue lume hand markers..green lume on hour markers
TeeJay replied to stretchrunner's topic in The Rolex Area
I've been told that differences in lume appearance, be it color, brightness etc (of all reps) is because the dials and hands are coming from different sources, but assembled at the same place.
