  1. That's something I hadn't heard about Maori tats, do you have any photos which give examples of the 'design breaks'? I would love some traditional Maori ink, but I don't know how well it would go with my Japanese plans
  2. If the subdial spacing is good, that's definitely a plus I've seen a couple of Quartz Daytonas which took my fancy, but I'm not sure if I could justify the expense, as I don't think either would get priority wrist time...
  3. I did relume a set of hands with the Night Color, and the results were very satisfactory, I just never got round to installing them I can't take any of the credit, I've just been lucky enough to have received such generous gifts, and I thoroughly enjoy wearing them Thanks again, R, it is all very much appreciated
  4. For me, it depends on the watch. if it's a chronograph, I would buy the quartz version as I don't trust the a7750 movements, and I would rather havea working watch with incorrect sub-dial spacing (which I wouldn't know about anyway) rather than a watch with a correctly spaced dial, and a timebomb in the case If it was just a regular watch, then I do like mechanical movements (handwound or auto) Their quirks give them character
  5. No snowflake hands needed for this model, as it had the mercedes hands But I do need to get some snowflake hands for Project Snowflake
  6. Looking awesome, my friend, and, from experience, I can definitely say you won't be getting it off your wrist for a while Here's it's non-identical brother
  7. This model would have been made in the mid seventies, and time and wear takes its toll on a watch, so it's just a case of making the watch look accurate for the age it should be
  8. That's because they're not Rolexes, bro. The average Joe Sixpack knows all about fake Rolexes, but probably doesn't have a clue that the industry replicates the other brands as well...
  9. Nice to see a set of complete Canadian dogtags I have one as well, but only wore the one half Wolverine-Style. When I got married, I took my wife's name, so replaced it with a set of current UK-MOD issue tags (modded with US Silencers) I'm not in the Forces, I just have a phobia of being unidentifiable post-mortem, which some have attributed to me getting lost as a child... Oh well
  10. That's my motto, and I follow your reasoning on not wearing a quartz version of an automatic watch, in that it is an obvious flaw. Would I wear a quartz Sub? I don't know... Possibly not... There's something about mechanical movements which I do appreciate But, for a chrono watch, I think I would rather have the flaw of the quartz movement, than the timebomb of an a7750 doing what it's known to do
  11. When I come to add a chrono to my collection, it will be a quartz one. I couldn't care less about subdial spacing, and don't trust the a7750 with the seconds at 6 mod, so I'd rather go for quartz and get something which won't be a timebomb
  12. I just had a thought, if it's going to have blue lume, how about tinting the Submariner text cerulean blue?
  13. That's a fantastic story I bet your fianc
  14. Wow, that really is a beauty Congrats on an awesome find
  15. +1 I would say the only time that it is worth lying, is if the person in question is being a twat and trying to make themself look big, but to be honest, I've never been in that situation. If anyone's interested, I just tell them I built the watch myself... No lies there
  16. I can't give any advice, but my thoughts on the project: Do it I'm all for custom projects
  17. The springbars will make that all the more fun
  18. Absolutely Of course, anything less than gen, franken or otherwise, sadly, can never live up to the question 'is it real...?" But, because it's a Tudor, that question just won't get asked Here's to flying below the radar
  19. Was that charcoal mixed into the wax? I might have to try that technique, as while baking the dial achieves a nice color to the lume, it destroys it's luminosity (which is one of my most crucial requirements in a watch) but applying a patina over the lume, that should still be relatively visible I believe CousinsUK sells hands which will fit asian movements If I recall, that model Submariner was also issued to the Australian navy back in the day
  20. Any time Anyone can wear a Rolex, wearing a Tudor is thinking outside the box (a bit ) and a guaranteed anonymity from the "Is that a real Rolex?!" question
  21. The above has already covered the mechanics, but something I must add, is that having springbars in a PAM makes it much easier to swap straps The only problem which comes with that, is choosing which strap to wear
