  1. I'm not normally a fan of Breitlings, but I appreciate Vintage in all it's forms, and that is a fine watch indeed
  2. I was about to say, that the case reminded me of the Project X watches, but Vlydog beat me to it I agree, the black pearl is completely unuseful, but the rest, I can't see a problem with it... LV dial = enhanced visibility To be fair though, a session with a media blaster and a re-spray, and that could once more be a beautiful car with mass appeal Along the same lines, I think if the black pearl was to be replaced with a fresh one, then it would be a nice watch IMHO I'd guess a standard 16610, with the CGs ground off and the cyclops removed... There's no lug holes and no rehaut engraving, so that would be my guess
  3. That's an awesome watch And, as G-Shocks go, it doesn't have that typical 'over-padded' G-Shock 'look'. I think the best way to describe that watch, is definitely a sleeper
  4. I'd hope not for your sake, as my financial boat is little more than a rowing boat with a couple of busted oars... The only plus side, is it's stopped 'taking on water' and currently afloat, even if only for the time being... I'd be happy to let you know the dealer I've been using recently if you'd be interested Absolutely, there's no better feeling than that I don't think that owning a gen could come close (unless it was a watch worn by a specific person) as all that's involved is spending money, and the product is identical to one which can be purchased by anyone else with the price of admission, and there's no fun in that
  5. The OP's comment wasn't (as far as I know) referring to something of mine, I suspect it was just some lazy trolling to see what it provoked, and I think Nanuq's above post absolutely sums up the difference between people who are interested in watches, and the people who simply view them as status symbols of marketing and commercialism. However, the most recent watches I've purchased, such as the Tiffany & Co Sub, the DateJust for my wife, my 1655 etc, have ranged from
  6. Interesting Not sure I get the point of a black pearl, as it can't be used for timing in the dark, but it's an interesting look Good to see a gen owner customizing their watch as well
  7. Thanks, bro I won't waste any more of my time reviewing budget options
  8. I would say it depends on the ambient noise of the surroundings. If I'm sitting in a quiet room with hardly any noise/no music etc, then yes, I can hear the rotor of the Asian movement winding. However. If I was in a more crowded situation, then the noise would be masked. I'm not sure if I would hear it winding say, in an office where people were milling about, and there would be background chatter. To be honest, no one's going to notice what you're wearing anyway, let alone think that the sound was a 'sign of cheapness'. On the contrary, they might well consider being able to hear the rotor working as a positive sign that it is an automatic movement
  9. It's always a pleasure to see your work, thanks for sharing
  10. I'm not too keen on the 'shoulders/lugs' of the case, as it's the same style as the VCO and Ingenieur, which I felt was quite a 'harsh' case-style. However, I absolutely love the dial, and the markings being on the rehaut is an awesome touch, which makes the dial appear larger, so I suspect this could have the same kind of wrist presence as a Sub, simply because of the apparent dial size A fine piece for any collection, congratulations on the acquisition
  11. Nice I wonder if Boyd Coddington had anything to do with that
  12. +1 And thanks to Offshore for running the competition
  13. Tasty I've definitely come to prefer that style of endlinks on a bracelet
  14. Fantastic work That's definitely on of my favorite Rolex watches
  15. It looks fantastic, fine work indeed
  16. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll certainly bear it in mind should the problem recur. I've been keeping an eye on the watch all day, and it's been absolutely fine. I guess it just makes it all the more confusing as the why it happened so suddenly. Maybe the watch was getting jealous that the 1655 was getting wear, so did something to get my attention
  17. Congratulations indeed to Offshore, and congrats in advance to whoever's lucky enough to win in the draw
  18. Thanks for the tips The movement has run fine for at least 18 months without issue, it was the spontaneity of the behavior which struck me as unusual, especially as the 'manual adjustment' ( ) solved the problem. My wife has access to a demagnetizer at work, I'll get her to give the watch a once over with it
  19. I had a bit of an unusual experience last night, when I swapped back from my 1655 to my Sub. I noticed that the Sub gained about 10 seconds in a minute, and looking at the sweep, it was noticeably faster. For a moment, I wondered if I would need to re-regulate it, then I remembered the talk about the stickng hairsprings and the 'slap fix'. I performed said slap, but left the watch on the shelf over night, just to observe it (and it is now running fine, as before) and I was thinking about what could cause a hairspring to spontaneously stick? While wearing the 1655, the sub was just left on a shelf, no electicals or speakers nearby, so I'm thinking it wasn't magnetism, maybe just the oil sticking, and I wondered how common it was for a 'sitting watch' to spontaneously do this ?
  20. Two watches for me today I've been wearing this all day: but I'm going to a friend's anniversary party later, (in a rough part of town) so I'm going to be dressing it down to this: Goes well with T-Shirt, jeans and work-boots Have a great weekend, amigos :drinks:
  21. I'm planning on buying one of these in two weeks for a project. I only want the dial/movement/etc, and have no need for the bracelet, so if you'd like it, I'll send it to you once it arrives Until then, you could always put the Daytona on a black leather strap
