  1. Well, to be fair, he's not bad to do business with, as long as you don't actually expect to get a quality (or as described) product or an easy transaction Indeed, life's too short to waste on the likes of Faisal
  2. That bad, bro As Gavidoc said above, (and I'd actually forgotten) Faisal tried to weasel out of the negative by saying he'd remove the negative to me, if I did likewise. I just refused to remove it and lived with the negative for the year, better to bear the burden than to compromise my own principles.
  3. Indeed, it's a sad state of affairs. I think some people just don't know any better, some are just outright rude... I always prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt that they might not know better, but sadly I think many folks these days just don't care about common courtesy, and the worse thing, is that they're raising kids to be equally ignorant of good manners Oh well, such is life...
  4. Normally, I would agree, but, this is one of those things were I'd rather take the door option
  5. Nothing different from me, externally, at least I performed a movement transplant this morning, returning the original factory movement to the case, as the new movement (which came under the dial ) was stopping every 36 hours or so, so clearly some kind of problem with the rotor/self-winding mechanism... Strange the rotor rotates, I could hear the gears winding, I could even see them winding when winding the rotor by finger, with the movement exposed, but for some reason, the movement kept stopping after 36 hours, so I thought easier to just swap the movement back, and keep the back up movement in the back up watch, as I seldom wear a NATO strap for 36 hours (and if I do, I'll just have to hand-wind it PAM-style )
  6. An interesting read, thanks for the link I think it's funny that they (Rolex) allowed the term 'enhanced' to be used, as an enhancement is a positive change, where I'd've thought that they would be arguing that as non-gen parts were being used, it would actually be a 'downgrade' or something like that Scary that the guy sent the watch back without the original movement that time... Buyer beware indeed...
  7. Absolutely I think both terms have validity, depending upon the watch in question, or, more specifically, the intent behind it's construction. I think 'composite' is a fine term to describe any built watch which is built of whatever (rep or gen) parts are available to build 'a working watch', with no real intent to final appearance, other than functionality as a time-keeper, where I think 'custom' is a good term to describe a watch which is built out of (rep or gen) parts, with the intent of the watch having a particular (customer/owner chosen, but fantasy) appearance. I think if the builder's intent is to replicate a specific model of watch (as closely as possible), I feel that that's when the watch becomes an homage, as it is intended to look a particular way (regardless of rep or gen parts), but that appearance is being dictated by the original factory design, rather than the builder's own choices
  8. I don't think it's available as a stick/roll on, and it has denatured alcohol, rather than alcohol-free, but this has been my preference for a while now As far as I know, it's only available from Mercadona in Spain, but it's a great anti-perspirant and has a really nice clean, soapy fragrance, not at all over-powering
  9. Yup. I bought a Sub insert from them a while back, and the product was totally unacceptable, in terms of their "You won't be able to tell it from the real thing" bs. When I contacted Faisal about it, he acknowledge that there was a problem with the factory specs, but refused to admit that his description was misleading, and dared to give me negative feedback calling ME a liar, when all I'd put was that the product was distinguishable from the real thing, so it was a misleading sale. I saw him post the same feedback on anyone else who dared to question his transactions in any way... Sure, he offered me a refund, a return, or a new insert, but that was never the point. It would have cost me more in travel and postage to return it than it would to buy the insert, so I would only have been losing money, even if he'd issued a full refund, so I just put it in the trash and moved on. He might have pulled his socks up since then, but my first comment still stands with regards me becoming a return customer Best of luck
  10. Consider it lucky that you can't make a payment. I'd rather slam a car door on my nuts than deal with Faisal again
  11. Of course, if there's any intent to deceive, then yes, absolutely actionable, but other than that, I think it's taking 'intellectual property rights' a bit too far... Afterall, the person is buying the item permanantly, not renting or leasing it... Crazy... But surely that's the key 'point' to the definition? For example, take these two project subs of mine... The one on the left, I would definitely agree to fitting the definition of a composite watch, as it is assembled solely from whatever spares I had lying around to make a 'complete watch'. However, it is not really built to my personal specifications/preferences, as I didn't have the option of 'choices' with the parts... However, the watch on the right, although not 100% complete, I would say fits the definition of a custom watch, as (excluding parts to come, and the bleach damage to the insert) it was actually built with the parts I wanted to install, to give the result which I wanted (essentially, I wanted to build a 'sleeper' sub). Even if I was to sell the vintage sub on to someone else, I feel it would retain the custom title, as the manner in which it was built, was to a custom plan, where the NATO Sub, was never really 'built to a plan', just fabricated from the spares which were available If that makes any sense Indeed, but what would that term be
  12. Crazy. I can understand it 'voiding the warranty', but to sue someone over it... Corporate Protectionism gone mad
  13. I like the term 'custom' or 'customized', as that doesn't matter if the parts or watches are rep or gen, simply that the watch has been built by/for the owner's personal requirements (thus encompassing 'intentional fantasy' models, rather than a purchased 'fantasy' model)
  14. TeeJay

    Pink Lady

Glad to hear that it was liked, it's certainly a lovely watch
  15. That's interesting to know about the shoe polish, the effect is most impressive I just noticed, that the strap is 18mm, as Connery-Canon It's the little touches like that which make you the master
  16. Thanks, bro, I just thought I'd give it a try, but I quite like the results Mine's based on a 1680, but with a 6200 case The ZULU looks great
  17. Nothing new from me, but a slight variation on a popular theme
  18. That's one awesome watch, my friend Out of curiosity, what is the mod you performed on the insert to increase patination? It's seeing your projects which inspired my own efforts to such things
  19. I agree, your watch looks much more balanced and in proportion Absolutely, but that Oris is such a diver's watch which should only be worn over a wet suit and kept in storage with said diving equipment, not worn on dry land
  20. I actually quite like that, which is weird, as B&R don't normally grab my attention... Maybe it's the Russian writing, maybe it's the price... It's just a shame that it's the day/month/24 hour display rather than stopwatch... Might be worth picking up as a beater...
  21. The GMT IIc is a fantastic watch It's the only gen Rolex, to date, which I have tried on, and actually been impressed with. DateJust, Explorer I, Explorer II, 16610 Submariner, they've all left me feeling either unimpressed by the feel of the watch, or feeling it was too small... The GMT IIc, however, I think is an awesome watch. I'd go so far as to say one of those watches which should be in every collector's collection, simply because it is so awesome Wear it well
  22. I'm still in a wabi-sabi kinda mood
  23. Such a watch should only ever be worn over a diving/space suit... From a design point of view, it has the same bezel/dial size ratio which I find with the SFSO... It's like putting a Submariner dial in a 45 Planet Ocean case... If the dial was a few mm larger, I think it would look more balanced
  24. I have to admit, those were the only negative reviews I read, but I thought it only prudent to make mention, given the potential conditions the watch will have to endure
  25. Congrats on an awesome acquisition, and belated birthday greetings
