  1. Today's obviously a day for new beginnings and rejuvination, so I guess it's only appropriate that I finished my project sub, and am happily wearing it It started off as a vintage Sub from Silix, and has undergone 'a few changes'... Case and bracelet have been 'hand aged'. (Hopefully looking between 30-50 years old overall) Crystal has been re-epoxied into place for renewed water resistance. New (3rd) bezel insert (sanded edges and bleached for 60 seconds). New movement (old movement was okay, but a bit 'twitchy' on hand-winding, and the new movement had a clearer date-font, so it made sense to swap) New dial (baked for 60 seconds, and text colored) New Millitary-issue case-back (slightly scuffed to blend with the rest of the watch's appearance) Bracelet built from assorted parts to fit the case (original bracelet only fitted with very bent springbars) Original 'factory vintage' hands. So here it is, probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm very happy with the results. Future work to include a new coin-edge bezel Questions and comments are always welcomed
  2. The speed seems fine to me, T I rather liked how the screen scrolled when I clicked 'edit' Simple pleasures for simple minds, or so the saying goes Very nice work

  4. *looks about* *nods appreciatively* Nice job
  5. When I tried on the gen a few months back, although I obviously had no intent (or means ) of buying it, it was the polished mid-links which spoiled it as a watch for me, as I felt the bracelet (though exquisitely made) took too much attention away from the watch head itself. (I felt the same thing about the Yacht-Master) I guess I'm just not a bling kind of guy (although I've always worn jewellery of sorts, be it a signet ring, a chain or set of d-tags, and a watch, but never anything blingy) I think brushing the mid-links has definitely improved the appearance of the watch, as it takes it out of the 'wrist jewellery' catagory, and into the catagory of 'really well finished, but still functional, wrist watch Now, if only the clasp had a diver's extension, I'd be happy
  6. I don't mind losing the shoutbox, but any chance of the 'quick reply' icons, like "I agree"/"I disagree"? They were great for commenting on posts
  7. At a guess, I'd say it was a project built by someone like myself who just likes messing around with parts rather than trying to go for a particular model I would be prepared to accept that the parts themselves were of the claimed vintage, I just think they were probably put together somewhere other than the Rolex factory
  8. Glad to hear a ding to the case was the worst damage Big improvement to brush the mid-links
  9. I have to admit, I like the polished look, as I feel it mirrors how the case of the Sub is brushed on the top of the lugs, but polished on the sides. I guess that's why I never thought the sides of the bracelet should be brushed
  10. I used one of those 4-texture nail files. It's not quite factory mirror polished, but certainly no longer brushed
  11. Fantastic That does look nice and vintage
  12. Should it be brushed? I didn't know that One bracelet I received actually was brushed on the sides, so I polished it
  13. Awesome to see a post from you, brother, take it easy and get well soon
  14. Amen to that, brother. Counterfeiters aren't the ones charging stupid money for items worth only a fraction of the price tag... I say reps are 'fair trade' watches
  15. That has been my experience as well. Unless someone is a well established character, asking a dealer if they can source a part will likely be met by a refusal. Best of luck getting the situation resolved, or in acquiring a new crystal
  16. I'd have to disagree... I've never bought the most expensive reps, and the ones I've bought have been okay. The only problems I've really had with cheap reps, are ones I've inflicted on them myself... I have a very cheap rep on it's way, which was purchased so I can use it as a parts donor, but I'll be happy to evaluate it's quality (or lack of) before I take it to pieces Of course, there are some real cheapies out there which are garbage, but given the markup which dealers apply, it would not be unreasonable to think that some of the cheapo dealers are simply shifting the product at cost price, in the hopes of making a profit from overall volume of sales...
  17. Oh man, that is SWEEEEET If I was able to come up with a decent design for a Tudor dial, might you be able to print one up, and if so, how much would you want for the dial? I'm really keen to build a Tudor watch, but just don't have the kind of cash for an NOS dial, and something like what you've done, would be absolutely ideal for what I had in mind As you say, maybe not great for a perfectionist, but for someone just after a fun watch, I think you could really be onto something
  18. I guess, as above, it's a case of supply and demand, and prices reflect that. Reps provide a more affordable product than gens, so while folks might not be able to afford a new gen, a rep is not a financial impossibility, so they're more likely to be purchased by collectors, so the dealers aren't feeling the need to drop their prices. Of course, there are some very cheap reps available
  19. I found this one at the bottom of a drawer No, the project sub hasn't finally succumbed to my abuse, but is sitting in my pocket with a key ring and some change, so I figured I'd give this one some wrist time while the sub takes its beating
  20. I have to admit, I'd often wondered just how the hack function functioned, and now I know
  21. I agree entirely. An interesting collection in terms of diversity of brands, but only a few watches (such as the Cuervo y Sobrinos, black dialled Ebel and black dialled Ulysse Nardin) I would even consider wearing, the rest, despite their obvious cash value, just look cheap and tacky.
  22. Fantastic It's things like this which remind what friendship is all about
  23. In that case, I would say sell sell sell, buy the one you want, then, when you get bored of it, sell that one on to finance the new purchase
  24. That's really good news indeed, bro, thanks for sharing it with us Indeed, lots of good vibes being sent bruddah Lani's way
